One of the minor changes that Renewed Vision made when they released ProPresenter 7 was to surface something that has existed through previous versions, but wasn’t obvious, if you didn’t know about it.
Hotkeys.
Of course, a lot of people have known that you can type in a slide number and hit enter to jump to that slide.
What not everyone knew was that you could set a hotkey that would do the same thing as well.
Why would you want to do that? Well, you could set a hotkey for Verse one and use that hotkey for ALL verse ones, no matter the song.
Additionally, hot keys only require you to tap a single key. So, they’re at least twice as fast as \”number enter\

Worship Leader, singer and songwriter Tim Timmons is a man of faith whose principles were tested by hard luck and mortal challenges before he produced his first album of praise & worship music. Coming back from a dramatic cancer diagnosis, Timmons forged a career as an inspirational recording artist with albums like 2013’s Cast My Cares and 2015’s Awake Our Souls, later venturing into children’s music with 2017’s Who I Am.

Timmons was born in Irvine, California on February 9, 1976, and he developed an interest in music as a child, taking up the drums when he was seven years old, learning to play guitar and write songs when he was 11, and teaching himself to play piano. Timmons developed a knack for songwriting, and in his early twenties, he began turning professional, eventually co-writing with the likes of Mike Doheney of the group Tenth Avenue North, Michael Farren of Pocket Full of Rocks, Dove Award-nominated singer/songwriter Jason Walker, and LaRue frontman Phillip LaRue, while also serving as a worship leader at Mariners Church in Irvine. However, in 2001, Timmons began re-examining his life when he was diagnosed with inoperable cancer. Originally told he had only five years to live, Timmons devoted himself to his wife, his growing family, and his work as a worship leader. After he’d more than doubled his initial survival expectancy, Timmons felt a new calling to use his music as a tool to bring people to a greater understanding of what it truly means to follow Jesus. Declaring that “Following Jesus versus being a believer in Him is revolutionary,” Timmons put a new emphasis on music and songwriting, and in 2013, he landed a record deal with the Christian music label Reunion Records. Cast My Cares, Timmons’ first album of worship music, was produced by Paul Mabury, and was released in the summer of 2013 and reached number 13 on Billboard’s Christian chart. He followed up in 2015 with Awake Our Souls and toured in support of the release with MercyMe and Phil Wickham. Timmons’ next project was the 2017 children’s album, Who I Am, which he co-produced with Christian Hale and released independently. That same year, he offered his first holiday release with the five-song Mighty Christmas EP. Written during a church retreat, Timmons next offered up the anthemic single, “I Belong,” which featured an appearance from CCM legend, Amy Grant. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

My computer screen is blank or shows the Stage Display when I open ProPresenter

If ProPresenter is hidden behind your Output or Stage Display when you open the program or when you enable one of those outputs, it only takes a few seconds to fix. The steps below will walk you through each possible scenario first with the fix at the end.

You open ProPresenter and the screen goes black.

If you open ProPresenter and the screen immediately goes black (or other solid color), don’t worry, this just means your output screen has moved. Generally this is caused by disconnecting your external display from your computer while ProPresenter is still open. This can happen if the program is running or if the computer is in standby, but ProPresenter was still open.

You enable your output and it comes up on your computer instead of your external display.

This can happen if you don’t have an external display attached and you’re trying to preview your slides, or if your Output isn’t assigned properly in ProPresenter’s Display Preferences.

You enable Stage Display and it comes up on your computer screen or audience screen.

Similar to the one above, if your Stage Display isn’t assigned to the proper display, it will show up where you don’t want it to. If you only have two screens (computer plus one output) then you probably aren’t using Stage Display. It will also have to be assigned to one of those two displays even if it is inactive. If you have three displays, it may show up on your computer screen or the screen your audience sees if it isn’t assigned correctly.

Fixing your Display settings

In each instance where your display opens on your computer screen, you will see a gray button with an ‘x’ in the lower left corner when you move your mouse. You can click on this button to close the display. You can also use Command-1 (Mac) or Control-1 (Windows) to turn off the primary output. Command-2 and Control-2 are for Stage Display. These shortcuts can toggle either display on or off regardless of which screen they are assigned to.

Once you have turned the display off and you can see ProPresenter again, you may need to adjust your display settings. If you normally use a second display with your computer, connecting to the display while ProPresenter is closed should automatically put the output and stage display back where you had it. If the display settings don’t update properly, or you need to move displays around, open ProPresenter Preferences and go to the Display tab. Preferences can be opened by pressing Command-comma (Mac) or Control-comma (Windows) or by clicking on the ProPresenter menu and selecting Preferences.

The two animations below show the common setups for two and three screen scenarios.

Top 5 ProPresenter Hot Keys

Relying on your mouse to control ProPresenter can be slow and tedious. To become a worship lyric projection ninja you need to start using hot keys (shortcut keys) to improve your workflow. Here are my top five favorite ProPresenter hot keys that will make you a more proficient operator.

1. Option+Return

Have you ever been in the Song Editor and needed to split one slide into two slides? Stop the copy and pasting madness and just hit Alt+Enter on the spot you want to split up the slide. Like Bruce Lee you now have two slides and you didn’t even break a sweat. Note: I find this shortcut works better when you put your cursor at the start of a new line rather than at the end of one.

2. Command+1

When I’m testing a presentation on my laptop with no external monitor I use Command+1 to quickly see what my slide looks like full-screen. This hot key allows you to easily switch between your Output Window and application. Command+2 is great for switching your screen to see your Stage Display Window.

3. Command+s

If you haven’t had ProPresenter crash on you before than you haven’t been trying hard enough. ProPresenter is a crazy powerful program and sometimes it turns over and dies on you. This happens and you need to be prepared for it. Don’t work on a presentation for an hour without hitting Command+s along the way to save all your changes. Until ProPresenter includes an auto-save feature, I will keep using this hot key every time I make a big change to my presentation.

4. Option+Shift+Command+v

I hate long hot keys, but this one is worth the extra finger exercise. Ever tried to copy and paste text from a web browser into ProPresenter and all the text formatting came with it? Next time try using your ShameWow… I mean Option+Shift+Command+v to paste your text into ProPresenter without any nasty formatting attached to it.

5. F1, F2 and F3

These three function keys are lifesavers for anyone running a presentation on the fly. F1 clears everything on your screen, F2 clears all the text and F3 clears all the backgrounds. Two honorable mentions are F4 to clear all your props and F6 to display your logo.

Here is a list of all ProPresenter 5 Hot Keys and ProPresenter 4 Hot Keys.
