SACRAL CHAKRA / Your sacral chakra is located in your lower abdomen, about one to two inches below your naval. When out of balance symptoms include—but aren’t limited to—attachment issues, sexually-related guilt, timidity, emotional volatility, hypersensitivity, and trust issues. A person can act both completely disconnected and cold towards others if this chakra is under-active or needy and emotionally dependent if the chakra is over-active. This chakra is your most important emotional center and because of this, at one time or another, most of us will experience an imbalance here.

Unleash Your Creativity: The Sacral Chakra & Guided Meditation

The Sacral Chakra

The sacral chakra is the second energy center in the body, closely related to the root chakra. Its location is two fingers below the navel, essentially where the reproductive organs reside. This chakra also governs other organs such as the kidneys, and bladder and the endocrine system.

A creative energy center

Because this area of the body creates new life, creativity is what this chakra imbibes. Creating new life doesn’t only mean creating new humans. This creativity includes art, projects, ideas – anything that requires a creative mindset – and even relationships.

The sacral chakra teaches you to take care of your emotional needs. It is related to the root chakra which governs your physical needs.

The unbalanced sacral chakra

An unbalanced sacral chakra has some surprising physical manifestations. Because of the location of this energy center, physical issues with regard to reproduction, the endocrine system, or the body’s elimination system arise because of an unbalanced chakra. This includes issues such as infertility, prostate cancer, bursitis in the hip and more.

Human sexuality

Interestingly, western society takes a “Puritan-esque” approach to the expression of sexuality. The idea for centuries has been that people must be chaste, that sex is “sinful,” and even an embarrassing thing to talk about. With a lifetime of suppressing creativity, emotional release, or downplaying human sexual needs, it’s not surprising that men often develop prostate cancer later in life, or that infertility is a growing issue for both men and women.

When the sacral chakra goes into overdrive, as a way to compensate for other unbalanced chakras in the body (or its own imbalance), sexual addiction can happen. In fact, addictions of any kind – work, alcohol, etc. – point to an unbalanced sacral chakra.

Lastly, have you ever noticed how western society, especially US society, does not fully celebrate the arts? If a child says, “I want to be a doctor,” family and friends usually celebrate. But if a child says, “I want to be an artist,” that child might hear, “you should have a backup plan.” This message at the societal level contributes to an unbalanced chakra.

Bringing the Second Chakra Into Balance

Meditation

As a meditation teacher, I suggest that meditation always be in your toolbox of things you can use for chakra balancing, but as a life-enhancing tool. It’s not a cure-all and it takes awhile to feel the benefits (though not always), but it is worthwhile.

I wrote and created the guided meditation below for helping to balance the sacral chakra. See the bottom of this post for the script.

Make things and release!

In addition, get to creating! You don’t have to be a professional artist, either. Color in a coloring book. Take creative pictures. Create a new routine. Write a story. If you’re more logically-minded, turn math problems into fractals (no joke!).

Let out your emotions. Climb to the top of a mountain and scream until you can’t scream any more. Let yourself have a laughing fit.

Kundalini Dancing

Another way to help you balance your sacral chakra is to do some kundalini dancing. Plant your feet, put on some meditative rhythmic music, and let your body flow with the energy. Pre-determine the time you will dance and don’t let yourself stop until the time is up.

Make use of gems, stones, oils, & colors

The color orange represents the sacral chakra. The more you bring “orange” into your life, the better for balancing this chakra.

Carry stones like carnelian, amber, sunstone, or bronzite as jewelry or in your pocket. Use essential oils such as orange (of course!), ylang ylang, or sandalwood when you meditate, or wear with a carrier oil.

Wear orange clothing. Eat orange foods such as carrots, sweet potatoes, oranges and papaya.

Fall in love with yourself

Just as the sacral chakra governs relationships with others, it plays a role the relationship with yourself. Think about that. How good is the relationship with yourself?

Ask yourself: Do you treat your body well? Are you kind to yourself? Do you thank yourself for all the hard work you do every day?

Only you know the answers to those questions. My guess, however, is that you aren’t thinking kind thoughts about yourself. Next time you look in the mirror, instead of being critical, think about what is good about your body.

By loving yourself, you treat the “vessel” well. You nourish it and give it enough water. You allow it to rest. You set healthy boundaries and you allow for the healthy expression of your sexuality. You exercise, and practice mindfulness. This can help bring your chakra into balance.

Go for the healing

Your reproductive organs carry the genes of your mother and your mother’s mother and all those relatives before you. Whatever traumas these folks experienced were imprinted in your genetic memory. Add to that any trauma you may have experienced during the course of this life. This doesn’t just include physical trauma, but societal trauma, personal feelings towards your body and your reproductive organs.

It’s worth it to explore this theme in a gentle way. Journal about your feelings toward your own sexuality. If you feel guilt or shame, it’s worth exploring why and deconstructing what is behind that.

This core, this center of the body is connected to life. Fully living and embracing all that you are comes with love and acceptance of all of yourself.

I found a beautiful video by SoulToz who experienced an awakening. She talks about the sacral chakra at length. I encourage you – whether you’re male or female – to take a look. It’s truly beautiful and she taught me some things, too.

Repeat Affirmations

In balancing the sacral chakra, affirmations can help. See the meditation script below under the affirmations heading for some ideas. Some or all of the them might be useful to you.

You can also chant the word “vam” (often pronounced “vang”) to help balance this chakra. This selected meditation is an hour-long repetition of the seed mantra, vam.

Sacral Chakra Guided Meditation

Beginning the meditation

As you begin this practice, make sure you won’t be disturbed.

You may sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor, or on a cushion – wherever you may be comfortable. Just be sure the position you find is one that you can maintain long enough for this meditation. Be kind to yourself. If you find that you need to shift, do so with mindfulness and calm.

When you meditate, it’s okay to have thoughts – they will come! Welcome them. Meditation shouldn’t be a strain. Don’t try too hard. Just bring your gentle, nonjudgmental attention back to this meditation when you find your thoughts have taken you somewhere else.

Let go of expectations. You have come to your chair or cushion. Let yourself settle into this practice to benefit from this time of calm and silence. Once you begin this meditation, stick with it until the end.

Settling into the meditation

Close your eyes, or cap them halfway, with a soft, unfocused gaze.

Bring your awareness to the breath. Notice the rise and fall of the chest, the natural rhythm of breathing. Sit with the breath for a few moments.

If you find your thoughts wandering, gently come back to this sacral chakra meditation. Thoughts are okay. Let them come. Welcome them. Gently let them go by coming back to this meditation. Be kind to yourself.

Now, take two or three deep yawns. You can “fake yawn” until one comes on.

Bring your attention back to the breath. Notice the natural rhythm of your breathing.

Breathe in, deeply, first into your belly and then into your chest. Inhale as much as you can.

Slowly begin to release the air, starting with your chest, then your belly. Do this for two more breaths.

Lighting the lower chakras

Bring your attention to the root of your being, the base of the spine. A tiny ball of red energy spins there.

See this energy center as a red pin of light. Allow this red ball of light to grow and surround your body.

Move up a few inches, to the organs of your body that create life. Your creative center. An orange light activates there. It is the size of a pin.

As you inhale, allow this orange light to grow to the size of a marble.

Inhale again and grow the light until your entire midsection is surrounded by this creative, warm light energy.

Allow filaments of this light to infuse your creative organs with warm energy, moving to your kidneys, bladder, and lower vertebrae.

Now allow this light to grow with your next breath.

Creative Shield

This warm light now surrounds you, as a creative shield. Warm rays of light infuse your whole body with grounded, passionate energy.

Your entire being basks in warm amber light.

This light infuses you with healthy sexual energy, creative energy, and flourishing relationships. Your relationships with all people are free to grow healthfully, with deep connections and healthy boundaries.

As you breathe, bring the air into your belly.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Chanting

Now, inhale to chant.

Vammmmmmmmmmmm.

Inhale to chant.

Vammmmmmmmmmmm.

Inhale to chant.

Vammmmmmmmmmmm.

Vammmmmmmmmmmm.

Vammmmmmmmmmmm.

(continue for two minutes)

Let your breathing return to normal.

The orange light still surrounds you. All the areas in the sacral chakra absorb this light and awaken. Repeat each of the following affirmations silently or aloud after it is spoken.

Affirmations

I love myself: heart, mind and body.

I take good care of my body vessel, both mentally and physically.

I am open to life and all that it has to offer.

I have confidence and a zest for life.

I am sensual and express myself in healthy ways.

I allow myself to feel the pleasures and abundance of life.

I feel connected to others.

I am a creator and add beauty to the world.

I create healthy boundaries.

Breathe

Spend a couple minutes in silence as you continue to keep this healing light energized.

As you breathe, ribbons of this beautiful light weave in and around your lower abdomen, infusing you with creative, abundant energy.

Ending the meditation

Keep your eyes closed or capped as you near the end of this meditation.

It’s important to come out of meditation slowly.

Bring your awareness back to the breath. Allow yourself to feel the in and out rhythm of the rise and fall of the breath.

On your next inhale, allow the fingers and toes to wiggle if you wish. Gently shift your arms or legs as needed.

When you’re ready, open your eyes with a soft downward gaze. Keep your focus inward.

Open your eyes fully as you’re ready. You may return to your day.

6 Ways to Balance Your Sacral Chakra

Sacral Chakra – Svadhisthana

Sacral Chakra: Here’s Everything You Need to Know About Your 2nd Chakra

My own experience with chakra opening

Guided Meditation To Balance The Sacral Chakra, 3 Easy Steps

In this post we offer a guided meditation to balance the Sacral Chakra, Svadhisthana. We look at the purpose of the 2nd chakra, the energies associated with our health and why it is vital that we ensure we open and balance the Sacral Chakra.

The name of this chakra comes from 2 words

Svā = Self

Adhishthāna = seat, residence

Our Svadhisthana Chakra is found approximately 2 – 3 centimeters above the base of the spine, above Muladhara Chakra and 3 – 4 centimeters below the navel.

It is responsible for energies associated with our evolving the sense of us as an individual.

Sacral Chakra Energy Symbols And Color

Colors

The color associated with Svadhisthana the Sacral Chakra is ORANGE, the color of fire.

This color symbolizes energies of purification, activity, joy, hope and self-confidence.

Orange is the color of a sunrise and the orange tones of Svadhisthana symbolize the strength and hopes of the new day.

When we balance the Sacral chakra we master the energies of cheerfulness, faith, self-confidence and become invigorated.

Orange is also the color of sunset and autumn. This reminds us that as the sun fades into autumn and the light withdraws at sunset, we at times are required to turn our consciousness inwards.

When we look within, we withdraw from the outside world and we can concentrate on Svadhisthana the Sacral Chakra. This allows us to find answers to any questions we may have about the future and our purpose.

The Link Between Muladhara And Svadhisthana

Muladhara the Base Chakra is an energy storehouse. It is the center where all of our past experiences and our karma is held.

Svadhisthana the Sacral Chakra provides us with our sense of self, enabling the energies required for us to recognize experiences and karma, to activate learning and the opportunity to purify them.

Our weaknesses and mistakes are located in the Sacral Chakra. A balanced Sacral chakra allows us to explore ourselves and the opportunity to develop our human consciousness to a higher level.

When we use this guided meditation to balance the Sacral Chakra we can develop our true unique nature. Svadhisthana enables us to bring our base instincts under control. We are able to transform them and ultimately transcend them.

Symbolism

When represented the image of Svadhisthana always has 6 Petals.

These petals symbolize the six human obstacles on our path of development:

Anger, Hate, Greed, Jealousy, Cruelty, Laziness.

There is also always a half-moon represented which symbolizes the energies associated with Svadhisthana. Our emotions and the feminine.

Water Element

The element associated with Svadhisthana is Water.

Water can be gentle, soft and yielding. It can be cleansing. It can nurture and provide sustenance. We are unable to survive if there is a lack of water.

Water also has immense power. It is hard to contain, and as we know if a dam bursts the water will carve its own channel. Nothing can stop it. It will go through, or around, over or under but it will not stop.

These links with water are representative of our Sacral Chakra energies.

Cleansing, nourishing and gentle, but they can burst if pent up and once released will not stop.

This is why it is essential that we balance the Sacral. The following guided meditation to balance the Sacral Chakra aids achieving this necessary balance.

Guided Meditation To Balance The Sacral Chakra

Guided Meditation To Balance The Sacral Chakra

Below you will find the guided meditation script used within the video above.

Guided Meditation To Balance The Sacral Chakra Script

Sit comfortably on a chair or the floor, keeping your spine straight.

Place your forearms on your legs with palms facing upward.

Clearing And Deep Breath.

Close your eyes and move your focus to your breath

Take a long deep slow breath in, focus on your breath travelling down into the lungs.

Slowly exhale, focus on the exhalation, visualize the breath leaving your body and taking with it all the stress of the day.

Inhale again, visualize the breath being drawn deep into your lungs and as it does you feel yourself become more relaxed, comfortable and at peace.

Breathe out slowly, focusing on your exhalation.

Visualize your breath leaving your body, clearing your body of any tension leaving you relaxed and at peace.

Guided Meditation To Balance The Sacral Chakra

Energy Visualization – Guided Meditation To Balance The Sacral Chakra.

Now slowly move your focus to your Sacral Chakra.

Focus on this area, around 2-3 inches below the navel.

Visualize a small point of light beginning to emerge at the center of your focus. A small but radiant point of light.

As you maintain your focus you see this light expanding, its dimensions beginning to grow.

You see it is starting to form into a vibrant circular ball of radiant orange.

As you inhale visualize that your breath is being drawn down your spine and into this brilliant orange orb.

You note with each inhalation the ball of brilliant and vibrant orange expands, glowing brighter and becoming more vivid.

You can see that Svadhisthana is now fully open. You can see the vibrant orange energies swirling, like waves, flowing in a constant clockwise fashion.

See the vivid orange waves, the vibrancy of Svadhisthana pulsing, swirling and radiating outwards as you balance the Sacral Chakra.

Now inhale slowly and deeply, as you do focus on your breath, see it, feel it, travelling down your spine and into your Sacral.

Hold the breath.

Now slowly release your breath.

As you exhale visualize your breath, now a vibrant orange travelling back up the spine and exiting through the crown.

You are aware that as you exhale the orange waves of energy from Svadhisthana you are also exhaling and clearing any blocks and barriers in your life.

As you balance the Sacral Chakra you are releasing old behavioral patterns and emotions that no longer serve your higher good.

Again, inhale deeply and slowly, focus on your breath as it travels down your spine and into Svadhisthana.

Hold this breath.

And again slowly release your breath.

As you exhale see your breath, flowing like a stream, flowing back up the spine and exiting through the crown.

Visualize as you exhale, the breath as a flowing stream from Svadhisthana, this orange river of energy is washing away, clearing all blocks and washing away negative emotions and trauma.

Sense the waves of energy from the Sacral chakra washing away energetic blocks which no longer serve you.

Again, inhale slowly and deeply, focusing on your breath as it travels down your spine and into Svadhisthana.

Hold.

Slowly release your breath. As you exhale see your breath, flowing like a stream, flowing up the spine and exiting through the crown,

Visualize as you exhale, the breath as a flowing stream from Svadhisthana.

This orange river of energy is washing away, clearing all blocks, washing away negative emotions and trauma.

Sense the waves of energy washing away energetic blocks which no longer serve you.

“Remember the example of an old cow, she’s content to sleep in a barn. You have to eat, sleep and shit – that’s unavoidable – beyond that is none of your business” – Patrul Rinpoche

Use this passion chakra guided meditation for activating your sacral chakra.

This is also the second chakra in your body that governs your creative impulses.

With its element as Water, it signifies your ‘seat-of-self’ or swadhishthana (Sanskrit name for the chakra).

Basics first

Record these instructions in your own voice or ask someone you trust to read them to you while you meditate. Do it at a slow pace

Take a long pause (5-10 seconds) between two paragraphs

Begin by sitting in your normal meditation posture – preferably cross legged on the floor, and if that’s difficult, sit on a chair with your back and your shoulders straight

Alternatively, you could lie down on the floor (as is done in yoga nidra meditation), but you run the risk of dozing off

Take a few deep breaths and calm your body and mind

Close your eyes

Listen to the directions and follow them (pardon me for stating the obvious)

Passion chakra guided meditation script

Take a long and deep breath. As you exhale, move attention to the lower part of your abdomen, below the navel, and imagine a glowing orange chakra. The orange glow of the chakra spreads to the rest of your body like ripples on the surface of water. You feel it like the ebb and flow of gentle waves hitting the shore of your body. Imagine standing on a pristine, white-sand beach, and it is just before dawn. The sky is streaked with orange in eager anticipation of the sun. Watch the sky. Now look down at the infinite expanse of gentle surf and calm water in front of you. Step forward and dip your toes into the warm water of the ocean. Notice how it slowly approaches, laps around your feet, and then returns to its source. You move forward and now the waves caress your knees and thighs. The water is crystal clear and you can see the white sandy floor under your feet. You dive into the water and start swimming effortlessly. You turn and ease onto your back and start floating like a weightless leaf. You gaze at the orange sky while moving and flowing with the waves. Now see your second chakra spinning and gaining strength. As it spins faster, an orange light washes over you and pervades every cell, every pore in your body. Breathe deeply and feel the energy funneling down your spine to the second chakra. Rest in this awareness. Gently turn to start swimming again. You realize that the sea has safely carried you back to the shore so your feet find the sand and you start walking out of the water. Look back at the sea and feel one with it. When you are ready, open your eyes and arise.

7 Best Chakra Meditation Scripts

Causes:

A blocked Heart Chakra is reflected in the people you surround yourself with. Often, you will seek out toxic relationships or even push people away from you. Your Heart Chakra is closely associated with your ability to love and feel empathy.

Signs:

Physically, your Heart Chakra is situated near the heart, but can manifest itself as problems with the immune system, the respiratory and circulatory system also.

Script:

Bring your attention to your breathing. Focus and visualize the air coming in and out of your lungs. Slowly, expand your breaths so that each time, you take in a little more. Breathe in through the nose, out through the mouth. In through the nose, out through the mouth.

As you do this, feel your body relax. Feel your limbs grow heavy and grounded as you breathe.

Visualize the ground and notice a bright ball of green energy at the very base of your spine. Emerald-green, this ball is the most beautiful jewel you have ever seen. Like a child, you reach out your hand and gently wrap your fingers around the green ball. As slowly as you possibly can, begin dragging the ball up along your spine and towards your heart. This jewel is for your heart.

As you rise up along the spine, repeat to yourself this affirmation:

‘I do not take this jewel out of jealousy, for I am generous. I do not take this jewel for myself, because I am loved. I take this jewel for my family and friends, because it will delight them as it delights me. I am loved and this jewel proves it.’

Repeat this to yourself and each time, take the jewel a little higher along your body, until you reach the heart.

‘I do not take this jewel out of jealousy, for I am generous. I do not take this jewel for myself, because I am loved. I take this jewel for my family and friends, because it will delight them as it delights me. I am loved and this jewel proves it.’

When the jewel has reached your heart, bring your focus back to your breath. With each breath, see the jewel grow a little bigger. With each exhale, watch it become a little brighter. You are growing this jewel so that everyone in your life can have a little. Your friends, your family. Everyone.

Breathe in. breathe out. Watch the jewel expand.

Chanting the Chakra Sounds and the Nervous System

You are probably already somewhat aware of how music affects the mind and body. You may have favorite songs to listen to while getting ready, driving, working out, or going to sleep. The effects of music are highly individualized by our experiences and associations with it. Though music with softer sounds and calmer tempos are generally soothing, a person’s favorite music can have those same effects, even if it is very loud or aggressive.

Music is believed to connect the physical, emotional, and spiritual realms simultaneously. Its effects are instant and long-lasting. Research is still in its infancy, but music appears to cause changes in mood, releasing neurotransmitters including dopamine, oxytocin, norepinephrine, cortisol, immunoglobulins, and endorphins, and effecting the sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (stay and play) nervous systems.

Music therapy employs music to positively affect patients in a clinical setting in a myriad of ways to promote health, positive mood, rest and healing, tolerance of difficult or painful procedures, create positive experiences, promote feelings of connection with others, and making music to increase memory and cognitive functioning. Activities that engage both sides of the brain, such as singing or playing an instrument allow the brain to be more capable of processing information.

When we chant the Chakra (Sanskrit for “wheel”) sounds, we receive the benefits of singing and deep breathing, as well as the benefits of focusing on altruistic qualities, connecting with the elements, and processing the experiences of our lives. Each chakra is rich with symbolism and meaning. To chant the bija mantras (the seed syllable of each chakra), find a comfortable place, as you would for meditation. Use a tone that is natural and comfortable for your voice, not straining to be high or low in pitch. Let the sound rollout slowly for the duration of your breath. Give an equal part of the exhale to each part of the syllable and feel where they resonate. Alternatively, you can chant each sound repeatedly and rapidly. You can start at the base and move to the top, or start at the top and move to the base, or just pick one chakra and chant there. The important part is to practice mindfulness, or active listening, to your body and the sounds. There is not a wrong order in which to chant the bija mantras. Here are the Chakras, their element, energy, and action, from the root to the crown. Note: the “a” in “Lam”, and the other seed syllables, is pronounced with an “ah,” or sometimes, “uh,” sound.

Muladhara . Root chakra. Chant “Lam.” Element: earth. Enegy: safe, grounded. Action: I am.

. Throat chakra. Chant “Ham”. Element: ether. Energy: creativity, expression, purification. Action: I speak. Ajna . Third eye chakra. Chant “Aum”. Element: transcendent. Energy: mind. Action: I see.

. Third eye chakra. Chant “Aum”. Element: transcendent. Energy: mind. Action: I see. Sahasrara. Crown chakra. Chant: instead of chanting, we just listen. Element: nothing, everything, and all that is between and beyond that. Action: I know.

Take some time to experiment with these sounds and symbols. How might they benefit you and the needs of your nervous system, and all your systems at a given time? I find chanting the bija mantras useful for dropping into my body, observing my experience, becoming present, cleansing my weaknesses, and harnessing my strengths. Keeping a journal of reflections on this activity may help you check in with yourself and your progress in life. Happy chanting!

Ideas for Healing Your Sacral Chakra and Restoring Creativity

I f you feel like you’ve lost your creative mojo, or are perhaps having trouble fully expressing yourself, your sacral chakra might be in need of healing. One of the seven different energy centers in the body deriving from ancient Indian scriptures, the sacral chakra is located two inches below your belly button and governs over your emotions, sensitivity, sexuality, and self-expression, says Reiki practitioner and nutritionist f you feel like you’ve lost your creative mojo, or are perhaps having trouble fully expressing yourself, your sacral chakra might be in need of healing. One of the seven different energy centers in the body deriving from ancient Indian scriptures, the sacral chakra is located two inches below your belly button and governs over your emotions, sensitivity, sexuality, and self-expression, says Reiki practitioner and nutritionist Serena Poon . And as with any chakra, the sacral chakra can occasionally become unbalanced , leading to physical or mental ailments in certain parts of the body and signaling the need for some healing practices.

To determine whether your sacral chakra might fall into that unbalanced category, though, it’s helpful to first picture a balanced one. Functioning like a spinning wheel (the word chakra means “wheel” in Sanskrit), a balanced sacral chakra brings all of the above qualities into alignment. “When it’s functioning optimally, we are emotionally content, uninhibited in our relationships and creative endeavors, and capable of deep intimacy,” says Reiki practitioner and astrologer Ambi Kavanagh, author of Chakras & Self-Care.

“When [the sacral chakra] is functioning optimally, we are emotionally content, uninhibited in our relationships and creative endeavors, and capable of deep intimacy.” —Ambi Kavanagh, Reiki practitioner

Because of the location of the sacral chakra, its alignment can also play a role in the physical condition of your reproductive organs, bladder, kidneys, and large intestines, says Poon. “Throughout the body, the particular frequency of the sacral chakra’s vibration can also affect the functioning of the lymphatic and circulatory systems,” she adds.

Related Stories

Any breakdown in the above emotional or physical areas could reflect a blockage within your sacral chakra that may require some healing. Below, the experts delve deeper into the symptoms typical of a blocked sacral chakra, and share specific strategies for bringing it back into healthy alignment.

How to know if your sacral chakra may be blocked

Typically, an unbalanced or blocked chakra is either overactive (you can envision it spinning extra-fast) or under-active, as in barely spinning at all. In the case of the former, for the sacral chakra, that might create feelings of overwhelm, emotional instability, or mood swings, says Poon. “Within a relationship, that kind of overactivity can also manifest as drama caused by possessiveness or jealousy,” says Kavanagh.

On the flip side, with an under-active chakra, you could experience a loss of imagination or creativity, depressive symptoms, emotional dissatisfaction, or low libido, says Poon. “Other physical symptoms include pain and stiffness in the lower back and hips, urinary and kidney problems, gynecological or fertility issues, constipation, and pelvic pain,” she says.

7 tips for unblocking or healing your sacral chakra

1. Acknowledge the blockage

The first step in healing your sacral chakra is to simply acknowledge that your physical and energetic body needs support. “That support can come in the form of healing through Reiki, or through other methods of energy healing that you can access by yourself or with a practitioner,” Poon says.

2. Connect with water

Because the sacral chakra is linked with the element of water, any form of deep hydration will do it some good. That means drinking a whole lot of water throughout the day, perhaps with a few orange slices to reflect the orange color of the sacral chakra’s energy, suggests Poon. Taking a warm bath complete with an orange essential-oil blend or even going swimming in a natural body of water can also help revive an under-active sacral chakra, in particular.

3. Eat sacral-centering foods

When your sacral chakra feels out of whack, or as if it’s spinning out of control, certain foods can act as balancing or centering devices. “These foods include nuts, seeds, sweet potato, carrot, melon, mango, orange citrus fruits, butternut squash, fermented foods, and any other orange-colored foods,” Poon says.

4. Get your creative juices flowing

Given that the sacral chakra is all about creative expression, tapping into your artistic side—even if you feel as though you’re lacking in artistic inspiration right now—can really help revive this energy center. The best part, Poon says, is there’s no right or wrong way to do it. Creativity is completely personal. Just do what feels fun, whether that’s coloring, drawing, cooking, baking, gardening, or something else entirely. Or, challenge yourself to do something you’ve never done before, like trying a new recipe or workout, or learning about a new topic.

If you need somewhere to start, you can also try feeding off someone else’s creative energy. “Call someone who inspires you and ask them what they’re working on or doing that they’re most excited about,” Poon says. “Their excitement and action can motivate you and spark your own creativity.”

5. Do some hip-opening movements

The sacral chakra is located right below your belly button, so any hip-opening movements can help return the energy flow to that region. “In particular, dance and yoga can be wonderful solves for an under-active sacral chakra,” says Kavanagh.

To get started, you could try a few simple yoga asanas or poses, like the butterfly pose, cobra pose, seated torso circles, or the goddess pose, which Poon says can really get things flowing again. To do it, play some music and stand with your feet wide apart, knees bent, and toes pointed out. Start to sway, keeping your lower body in a squat-like position, and try saying a sacral-supporting affirmation while you move: “I belong to the universal oneness, and I create with love.”

6. Practice the sacral chakra chant

Each chakra has a mantra that connects with it and that supports its healing. For the sacral chakra, Poon says, the mantra sound is vam. You can chant it as you’re doing the aforementioned hip-opening movements or poses or while sitting still during a meditation. Visualize the vibration of the chanting sound flowing directly to your blocked sacral.

7. Bring in healing crystals

In tandem with meditation or breathwork, making use of healing crystals can help clear any blocked chakra. “For the sacral chakra, in particular, go for amber, coral and orange calcite, citrine, orange aventurine, carnelian, or hematite,” Poon says, again referencing the orange color of this chakra’s energy. Place any of these crystals on your sacral chakra (aka your pelvis) while you meditate or just carry them around with you throughout the day to embody their healing properties.

Svadhisthana Chakra: A Sweet Ocean Meditation – Wanderlust

Welcome to your chakras, illuminating discs of swirling energy in your subtle body. In this series, the chakras become symbols, gateways to a deeper understanding of the self. Let their archetypes speak to you, teach you, whisper their secrets into you so that you may discover more ease, healing, and insight on this path.

Today we arrive at the second chakra – Svadisthana – located in your lower belly. (If you missed the first one – Muladhara – you can find it here.) Where the first chakra seeks to hold on and create structure, the second’s purpose is to let go and create flow.

While you are earth, you are – quite surely – also water. Everything ebbs and flows, drips, drops, pours, splatters, trickles, ripples, soaks, splashes… everything is nurtured and nourished by water.

OCEAN MEDITATION

Note: When I do this meditation, I put on “The Southern Sea,” a track by Garth Stevenson that runs for nine minutes. It’s divine.

Sit on the edge of a cushion, pillow or blanket. Weave your fingers together, touch the tips of your thumbs and rest your hands in your lap. Close your eyes. Connect to the rise and fall of your breathe.

Imagine you are sitting in a small boat, a canoe perhaps. With each inhale that arrives, feel the sensation that you are floating on top of the water. With each exhale, you are drifting further and further from shore. Feel the vastness of the ocean below you. The possibility of the sky above.

Now, imagine that a wave rolls underneath you and rocks your boat. And then another. And another. Feel them come and go, come and go, holding within them life’s ever-changing nature.

Think of the many waves of your life. Some have lulled you with their gentleness, their consistency and comfort, while others have been giant, drag-down tsunamis that you nearly drowned in. All have integrated into the great big ocean that makes up the tapestry of you. You are each wave, but you are also the entire ocean. Honor all that has brought you here.

Ask yourself: Do I give myself permission to feel the fullness of all of my feelings in any given moment? Think of what you have stuffed inside or shoved away… What part of your emotional landscape in waiting to be acknowledged? On the other hand, ask yourself: What parts of the past am I clinging to? What am I ready to let go of?

Roll onto your back into Baddha Konasana with the soles of your feet together and your knees wide. If you need some support, prop blocks or pillows underneath your legs. Place your hands on your lower belly. Feel the vulnerability of this position, your body’s expression of total openness and receptivity. Ask yourself: Do I allow for pleasure in my life? And feel the space to listen…

Dance, swim, DTR, take a warm bath with essential oils of cardamom and sweet orange, eat sweet potatoes, sprinkle cinnamon on everything. Do/wear the things that make you feel sexy. Express your sensuality through movement-based practices. This part of you needs tending always. Look for the sweetness in life. Stop and smell the roses, as they say. And then walk on.

May you feel each of your feelings fully, and then surrender them to the flow.

Chakra Healing Meditation for the 2nd Chakra

Chakra Healing Meditation for the 2nd Chakra

The 2nd chakra healing meditation centers on the ability to adapt to change, by letting go and creating flow. The energy of emotions is at the very core of this most fluid chakra.

“Never apologize for showing feeling. When you do so, you apologize for the truth.” ~ Benjamin Disraeli

I have chosen to represent the emotional energy wheels of the chakras, with a rose. The rose is a perfect example of the unfolding swirl of nature, and this orange rose is the color of the 2nd chakra. Gaze upon the perfect rose to begin your second chakra healing meditation. Intend to understand your own energy and how it relates to your subtle body, within the wheel of the 2nd chakra, as you read the article below.

Second Chakra Energy

The second chakra energy as stated above concerns the discovery of movement through change. With change comes growth. This chakra healing meditation is ever flowing and changing with the Earth-element of water.

Our attention in this chakra turns from basic needs and survival (the first chakra) to our relationships in the world. We are no longer merely concerned with self-preservation, but now there are others in our life at stake as well. The major life force in this energy and emotional center, is the gravitational pull of others and the attraction of opposites.

The 2nd chakra brings to our attention, that we are unique and different as we compare ourselves to others. The challenge, then is how this relationship to others fulfills our own personal needs, in light of our differences.

The polarity that exists between our needs versus the needs of others require us to learn all about the attractions of opposites/similarities and finding a balance that serves our highest self.

The second chakra also deals with our relationship to money. Yes, we all have a relationship to it and we all are a prostitute to it at some level. I love the words of Carolyn Myss (see references, below) who states, “Money, like energy, is a neutral substance that takes its direction from the intent of the individual.” The perceived lack of money is the single most cause of stress in most peoples lives!

Many an illness is manifested from financial stress. While money is a necessary element in our lives, we must attempt to take a more neutral and impersonal approach to it, so it does not rule our lives.

According to Carolyn Myss, “the wisest relationships we can have with money is to see it as a substance that faith can attract into our lives.” I quote her, because, I personally have an attachment to money that is not guided by faith! But I am slowly, slowly opening to this lesson of putting faith before money. Money should be put in its rightful place – as a servant, not a leader.

Our relationship to our sexuality and its expression is another major theme in the 2nd chakra. Nothing in the human experience brings us more emotion than our sexuality. It can be the seat of intense pleasure or intense pain.

Because sex usually involves another person, our sexual energy is mired in emotion.

Sex, money and power influence all our relationships. We all have stories regarding the use, misuse and abuse of these big three items. Most of them are not pleasant. How we use sex, money and power is the key theme of this chakra.

At the seat of the life force energy of this second chakra, is also the seat of our creativity! Our creativity and consciousness survive on change. Without change we do not grow, but our minds, hearts and bodies become stagnant and stuck. And with it follows the soul. It is our desires and our passions that create great change in ourselves and in the world.

This energy center focuses on our emotions more than the other chakras. And what a powerful force is this chakra in our lives! Experiencing and feeling our emotions, through sexual pleasure, through loving relationships and through our personal creative energy are very important to each and every one of us. If we lack in our personal relationships we lack in joy and creativity.

Living life as a pleasurable endeavor is what makes us laugh, play, cry and interact with one another as human beings. Without the pleasure principle, life would be dull indeed! This chakra’s energy has the ability to create joy in our lives!

The lesson in our relationships is how to move and change in order to create this balance between finding our own place in the world, yet relating to others in a healthy, pleasurable and whole manner.

Fearing loss of control of ourselves and our environment is a major challenge of this energy center.

The Earth-element of the 2nd chakra is water. Water is ever-changing and ever in motion. Water adapts itself and takes on the shape of its surroundings. Water follows the path of least resistance, yet as it flows it gathers speed and power. What “feels” soft can be a power beyond imagination.

Relating to our sexual nature is still of the Earth, primal in nature, yet the ability to experience pleasure in all things, keeps this chakra healthy and open.

Sex, pleasure, movement and change all go hand-in-hand with the energy of this chakra. The energy of this emotional center fuels our vital force for all that is enjoyable in our lives: creation, recreation and procreation .

Basic Rights for the 2nd Chakra

The basic right for the second chakra is pleasure and joy! While we create and procreate, our goal is to also create pleasurable relationships and pleasurable experiences.

The emotions of pleasure in this sacral center is closely tied with movement. We move toward pleasure and flee from pain. The feeling of pleasure allows us to expand, while the feeling of pain is contracting. We guard ourselves from painful emotions, by restricting our physical movements. Therefore, in movement, we can free the emotions that cause tension.

The right to feel as we do, without guilt or shame, is a basic right for the 2nd chakra. Emotions begin in the unconscious and we instinctively protect ourselves with tension when something becomes painful. This is why movement of the body is so therapeutic as a way of releasing unconscious emotions. Balancing your second chakra energy can be done with my chakra healing meditation.

Color, Location and Sanskrit Name of the Second Chakra

Moving up the color vibration scale is orange, the color which relates to the second chakra.

Another way to refer to the 2nd chakra is the “sacral chakra” because its energy arises from the sacral plexus, the bundles of nerve fibers along sacrum in the lower back.

The sacral chakra is located in the lower abdomen, from the navel to base of the spine. It includes the pelvis, sexual organs, the bladder, the large intestine, the lower or lumbar vertebrae of the spine, the appendix and the hip.

The Sanskrit name for the chakra is Svadhisthana which means, “sweetness.” Interesting that the area that causes us so much strife, that of money, relationships and power, can also be the center of the polar opposite: sweetness and pleasure.

Other texts use the translation, “the seat of the vital force.” Indeed, it is pleasure that motivates us, and if we flow with our vital force, we are open and flowing with our creative energy.

The mantra for the 2nd chakra is “I feel.” When you do the chakra healing meditation, focus on how you feel and don’t deny the emotions that want to arise.

Second Chakra Deficiencies

Insufficient emotional energy in the second chakra occurs whenever a loss is experienced. It may be a loss of control of the physical body, or loss of sexual attractiveness or sexual performance.

When you are a victim of sexual abuse, betrayal, abandonment by a partner or a professional colleague, your energy in this area is affected and you become closed. If you have lost control of your life through addictions, or financial loss the 2nd chakra becomes weak.

Other manifestations of a closed second chakra include shyness, acceptance of guilt when it isn’t yours, dullness and a lack of creativity, shame over one’s body and/or towards one’s life and lack of accomplishments.

A lack of pleasure or joy in your life closes this chakra as well.

Deficiencies of the 2nd chakra can be overcome with the mindful movements of this chakra healing meditation.

Excessive 2nd Chakra Energy

As with the first chakra, excessive second chakra energy takes on too much power over others. Being obsessed with power, money and sex necessitates keeping strong control over others at all times.

Strict control of one’s body through diet and exercise would also be included here that manifest in bulimia, anorexia and other eating and exercise disorders.

Sexual obsession, abusive power, being the judge and jury over everyone’s morals and finally, blaming others for our own weaknesses, show excessive emotional energy in the second chakra.

Seeking vengeance is misuse and abuse of second chakra energy. Taking the law into one’s own hands never turns out well for anybody. Keeping your personal honor does not involve getting even, no matter how justified you feel it is.

Balanced Second Chakra

The sacred Truth of the sacral chakra, is “Honor One Another.” The duality of this energy system has been called many names, yin/yang, anima/animus, male/female, sun/moon.

The lesson here is to learn how to balance our relationships with others in a conscious manner. While opposites attract, they are still sublimely intertwined with one another! Black or white, are still interrelated and balanced between two halves. One half contains the other half, as life spins and changes.

The most difficult thing to understand in this energy center is that all relationships that we attract in our lives are there for a purpose. And that purpose is to help us come to know ourselves better.

When we release our tendency to judge everyone we see, and instead see every relationship as a spiritual messenger, we can better understand our own strengths and weaknesses!

Examining our relationships to others helps us examine ourselves, our motivations and our hearts. Self-discovery through introspection will heal this chakra.

How hard is this to do! If we can only remove the boulder out of our own eye, before casting judgement and removing the speck out of another’s eye, the world would be a very spiritual place!

When you understand yourself, through your relationships, you are able to let go of the past and its hurts. You release any excessive guilt. This opens the door to forgiveness, for yourself and for others.

Nothing heals and balances this emotional center more that the Power of Forgiveness.

Knowing that you are forgiven, and releasing your guilt heals. Releasing the need to blame others or seek vengeance will open and create balance in all your relationships.

Releasing your inner victim, and taking responsibility for your own life will open your creative doors as you flow through the necessary positive changes for healing!

Roatan, Honduras, Cobra Pose on the Beach

Physical Manifestations of an Unbalanced Sacral Chakra

Any malfunctions of the sexual organs such as impotence and frigidity, obstetric and gynecological problems such as infertility, menstrual difficulties, menopausal difficulties, uterine fibroids, prostate problems and cancers.

Chronic lower back pain and sciatica are symptoms of a blocked second chakra (as well as the first). Pelvic pain and urinary problems, kidney trouble and circulatory system problems may also be manifested. Appendicitis, lower bowel problems and cancers also come into play.

Sacral Chakra Healing Meditation

Mindful, meditative movements, like those in this chakra healing meditation are healing indeed! Most of us have difficulty quieting our minds to practice meditative silence. I offer instead, a moving meditation to help you clear and balance your 2nd chakra.

When you turn your attention on your breath, as you move in a meditative fashion, your “monkey mind” can be quieted.

When you do the second chakra healing meditation, keep your focus on your pelvic and lower back area. I designed the movements in the meditation to help you with this, because the movements use the energy and muscles of this area. Breathe even more energy into your pelvis and lower back as you practice.

If you are diagnosed with a second chakra energy, physical manifestation, you will find this practice to be supportive and releasing.

Please make sure if you do have a physical diagnosis, that you discuss it first with your primary care provider, to make sure you are able to perform a physical activity using yoga movements.

If you are a victim of sexual abuse, proceed with this meditation carefully. Working with this emotional and energy center may revive unresolved feelings regarding your abuse. You may wish to have a loving and caring person with you, or nearby when you first open your 2nd chakra.

The intent of this chakra healing meditation is to not only focus on healing, but to focus on increasing your vital energy to bring joy into your life! Joy and Pleasure are healing forces! This is why laughter is the best medicine!

If you desire your meditation to be more therapeutic and restorative, you may also want to look at the body meditation, I call the Deep Releasing Yoga Meditation. It is simpler and less active than the chakra healing meditation, below. If your body and spirit are ill, this should be your first choice.

When you do this, and any chakra healing meditation, find your body position and then release into it. Bring mindfulness to your effort, and try to relax within the pose, for the least effort. This is real skill and only comes with lots of practice.

When you flow with effortless movement, you find healing, openness and the broadening of your consciousness. This is what creates real healing that lasts!

May your 2nd chakra energy flow as the element of water, as you open your 2nd chakra for healing. May this sacral chakra healing meditation be your guide to reconnecting with your subtle energy systems for total healing, of the body, mind and soul!

Very Important Downloading Instructions for Apple Users:

If you are an Apple user, please read this before attempting to download to a mobile device!

Please remember that Apple only allows direct downloads to their iOS devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) from their own App Store; they do not allow direct downloads from websites such as the BodyWindow.com to those devices. You may need to download the eBook or video using your computer first and then sync the file from there to your iOS device.

Your best option might be to download the eBook or video (in .mp4 format) and/or PDF file to your computer first, then save it to a cloud service, like iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, Mega, One Drive, etc. You will then be able to access the files on your mobile iOS device from the cloud service . You will have to have the cloud service installed on your device, through their app. Then just download the document to the device from the cloud.

If you keep your document stored in the cloud, you will never lose it and you will be able to access it from any and all of your electronic devices at any time! This is true for Android operating systems as well!

You will also need to ensure that you have a PDF reader installed on your mobile device, like Adobe Acrobat or similar. If you do not have a PDF reader, please click here. If your Apple mobile device has iBooks, Files or Notes installed this may also serve as your PDF reader.

***If you are successful in downloading the PDF file, be sure to tap on the open eBook and save it somewhere, like Books, Files or Notes, or it will disappear when you close the book.

Downloading For Android Users:

Your downloading of the files should not be a problem at all! Just ensure that you have a PDF reader, that is all. Click here for the reader.

For All Users:

Please don’t forget that you will not receive anything in the mail, no hard copy book or DVD! This is a digital product only. You will receive an email with a link to download the files. If you cannot find the email, please check your email’s junk folder. Look for an email from the Body Window, LLC.
