This is our interview with Dr. William Witt is from episode 14 of the Delgado Podcast to learn about his book \”Icons of Christ: A Biblical and Systematic Theology for Women’s Ordination\” from Baylor Press where he provides an analysis of the various arguments used by Protestants and Catholics against woman’s ordination as well as the biblical and theological cases for women’s ordination to the offices of both word and sacrament.
Icons of Christ addresses these voices of opposition, making a biblical and theological case for the ordination of women to the ministerial office of Word and Sacrament. William Witt argues that not only those in favor of, but also those opposed to, women’s ordination embrace new theological positions in response to cultural changes of the modern era. Witt mounts a positive ecumenical argument for the ordination of women that touches on issues such as theological hermeneutics, relationships between men and women, Christology and discipleship, and the role of ordained clergy in leading the church in worship, among others.
Dr. Witt is Associate Professor of Systematic Theology and Ethics at Trinity School for Ministry and earned his PhD from the University of Notre Dame and M.A. from St. Thomas Seminary.

When I began my doctoral studies, I had just been confirmed as an Episcopalian. Originally, I had intended to major in Historical Theology, but switched to Systematics after reading in Stephen Sykes classic work The Integrity of Anglicanism, that Anglican theology had lost its way in the 20th century because of a neglect of Systematic Theology. After finishing my degree, I had always hoped to teachSystematic Theology at an orthodox Episcopal seminary, but did not find work after graduation, and turned to other ways to make a living. After a few years outside Academia, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to interview at Trinity, and was given the opportunity to be a one year Visiting Professor. When Justyn Terry became the new Dean/President, this left an opening in Systematic Theology, and I was hired.

William G. Witt (born February 2, 1950) is an American politician in the state of Iowa.
Biography [ edit ]
Witt was born in Elkader, Iowa and attended University of Northern Iowa. A Democrat, he served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1993 to 2003 (23rd district).[1] Witt specialized in the policy areas of long-term care of the elderly and persons with disabilities and natural resource conservation and environmental protection. He led an eight-year-long, ultimately successful, campaign to reform Iowa’s Medicaid reimbursement system for long-term care facilities.
Writing and photographing under the byline “Bill Witt”, he published numerous freelance magazine articles, as well as two books from the University of Iowa Press — “Enchanted By Prairie” (2009) and “A Field Guide to Iowa’s Native Orchids” (2006). He won International Regional Magazine Awards (IRMA) for feature writing (1997) and photography (2000).

In loving memory of William Gibson Witt (Bill), born Dec. 5, 1935 – Feb. 2, 2005. Beloved husband of Donna Witt, father to Debra (Witt) Curtis and David Witt. Most cherished grandfather to William Joshua Curtis, Kristina and Pete Paguyo, James and Jeremy Witt and Cynthia Curtis. Stepgrandfather to Brittney, Courtney, Lindsey, Kaci and Cody Spainhour and great grandfather to Pete Jr. Beloved brother to Calvin, Louise, Helen, James, Peggy, Orville and Glen Witt. Bill has been a resident of Redondo Beach, CA for 54 years. He and his wife Donna have been married for 48 years. In addition to being a wonderful grandpa, Bill has dedicated the last forty years to Redondo Little League and has been the Assistant District Administrator for the last 15. Bill worked at Hughes Aircraft for more than thirty years, then at Pavillions in Palos Verdes. Bill lost his battle to lung cancer at Little Company of Mary Hospital on Feb. 2, 2005. Bill will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. The world is not my home, I’m just passing through, my treasures are laid out somewhere beyond the blue. Your family loves you so much Bill. A celebration of life service will be held for Bill on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 at 11:00 AM at RICE MORTUARY, 5310 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, CA 90503
