But the Jang Joon-woo reminds Chairman Jang, who is the boss and begins to strangle him before giving him his next orders — this frequently happens throughout the chapter. The new villain of the series is not a happy man. Meanwhile, after their overnight success, Vincenzo and Cha-young enjoy a beer together. Vincenzo wants to see what dirty secrets Cha-young has on Babel. She tells him about a subsidiary of Babel that manipulates stocks — Babel Chemicals. This is getting more interesting.

The lawyer gets irritated very quickly at their accusations. Cha-young wants him to resign from the case.

Cha-young tells Vincenzo that she can find a way to get the victims’ families to fire their lawyer, So Hyeon-u. She meets some of the family members and puts on the waterworks — but they don’t want to fight Babel — they are scared. She mentioned that her father, Hong Yu-chan, fought Babel and believes they can beat them with a few more punches. Vincenzo tells the families that they didn’t have Cha-young before, so now they have a chance to win.

She isn’t interested but does offer to buy him food to celebrate. But before they do, Vincenzo and Jang Jun-woo square up to each other and compete about who can eat spicier food. As they eat, they keep pretending that their food isn’t spicy and continue eating.

The Ending Of Vincenzo Season 1 Explained
Revenge is one of the oldest subjects in fiction, because it’s an inherently volatile concept. All of us can understand the need for revenge. However, even when it’s justified, getting revenge has a way of warping people. Can we get revenge and still remain the person we used to be? That’s the question at the heart of “Vincenzo,” a hit new Korean mafia drama that concluded its first season on May 2, 2021.
“Vincenzo” follows a South Korea-born mafia consiglieri named Vincenzo (neé Park Joo-Hyung), who arrives in Seoul with the goal of recovering 1.5 tons of gold stashed inside the Gemuga Plaza skyscraper, which the corrupt real-estate company The Babel Group has taken over. He teams up with an ambitious young lawyer named Han Cha-young, whose father The Babel Group has murdered.
After an action-packed 20 episodes, Vincenzo’s season finale delivers not just a high body count, but a definitive answer to its central question. Sadly, it looks like “Vincenzo” won’t be coming back for season 2. But there’s still a lot to unpack from the season 1 finale. Here’s what it all means.

Over the past three months, K-drama lovers have been following the events unfolding on Vincenzo. The tvN drama features Song Joong-ki, Jeon Yeo-been and 2PM’s Ok Taecyeon in the lead. The show revolves around an Italian consigliere who finds himself in the middle of a corrupt bureaucracy and turns into a vigilante.
Vincenzo might have ended over the weekend but the finale has left a few possibilities of the second season. The series ends with Vincenzo (Song Joong-ki) flees to an island near Malta after getting his revenge against the Babel Group head Jang Jun-woo (Ok Taecyeon). However, the gold he was after is still with Hong Cha-young (Jeon Yeo-been). This leaves the door open for his likely return to Korea.
The open ending has left fans asking for a second season. Song Joong-ki, however, in a recent interview confessed that he is unsure if a follow-up season would be in the making. Speaking with South Korean news agency Sports Chosun (and translated by Jazmine Media), Song Joong-ki said that there has been no talks about season 2 yet. He is ‘personally happy’ with people requesting for season 2 but ‘realistically speaking, it’s not coming out’. He added that he doesn’t thing there were any discussions of season 2 internally.
Though the Descendants of the Sun star doesn’t envision a second season, his co-star Kwak Dong-yeon has proposed the idea of a spin-off. The actor, who plays Jang Jun-woo’s brother Jang Han-seo in the series, suggested the spin-off idea to Netflix Korea on Twitter. The tweet featured a clip of Jang Han-seo’s enjoying a drink with Vincenzo and expressed their sadness over the series coming to an end. The actor replied to the tweet and said, “Hope Netflix makes a spinoff (auto-translated by Twitter).”

In an interview with Sports Chosun via Soompi, Kwak Dong-yeon said that a second season would be a dream come true for him. “I think a second season would be a dream come true. I hope that it really happens. All the other actors want it to happen as well. There are still a lot of Babel wannabes in Korea, so it’d be fun if Vincenzo could break them all open in the second season. I’m finished, but there’s always a way. Maybe I could be a grown-up Young Ho (Kang Chae Min) or a ghost who follows Vincenzo around all the time. Anyway, I’m satisfied with the current result. Han Seo managed to become a person he could be proud of before he departed the world,” he said.

Does Choi Myung-hee get her just-desserts?
With Cha Young’s encouragement, Vincenzo’s 24-hour countdown begins by making a call to Chief Prosecutor Han Seung Hyuk. In exchange for saving his life, Vincenzo asks Seung Hyuk to ensure Choi Myung-hee’s release from prison. After her release, Choi Myung-hee immediately gets in touch with Jun Woo, who reveals he’s stowing away to Mexico. He also asks her to wire money to their individual bank accounts and directs her to his office and bank passwords. Thinking she’s safe with a multitude of bodyguards, Choi Myung-hee makes to Jun Woo’s office where Vincenzo is waiting for her. Keeping to his promise of a ‘slow death’, Vincenzo brings Choi Myung-hee to an abandoned warehouse, before finally setting her aflame with his classic move – a back-throw of his lighter.
What happens to Jun Woo?
Vincenzo saves the slowest kill of all for Jun Woo – the spear of atonement. Describing how Jun Woo’s brother helped with tracking him, Vincenzo narrates how the spear of atonement would work. The mechanical drill would pierce Jun Woo for 5 mm until noon the next day, when it would finally reach his lung leading to instant death 24 hrs later.
Jun Woo uncharacteristically puts forward many arguments as he pleads for his life. From recalling that ‘we are both businessmen’ to entreaties about Vincenzo’s kind-heartedness to requests for a quick gun-shot kill. Vincenzo’s ending shows Jun Woo immobile the next day, leaving the viewer to decide if he’s really dead or ready for a comeback if ever Vincenzo Season 2 is announced.
Who dies in Vincenzo’s last episode?
Vincenzo’s ending episode sees a lot of deaths – from the bad guys getting killed to near-deaths in the Geumga Plaza gang to the loss of Han Seo as he dies in Vincenzo’s arms. Chief Prosecutor Han is also executed by Jun Woo on the courtroom steps, inspite of Vincenzo sparing his life. The Flowerpot
Following the attack from Cha-Young and Vincenzo, episode 5 of Vincenzo begins with Babel group on the backfoot. Joon-Woo immediately confronts his puppet Chairman, Han-Seo. He chokes him out, telling him to call an emergency meeting and chalk the warehouse incident up to electrical overheating. He wants to keep the arson attack a secret.
Cha-Young and Vincenzo celebrate their small victory up on the rooftop together. While they drink, Cha-Young realizes that he can’t practice law and wonders what they’ll do to get the upper-hand. Cha-Young deduces that they can use her expertise and knowledge in Babel’s operation. As she points across the street, she highlights an advertisement for Babel Chemicals.
One of the workers there, U-Yeong, is suffering from nosebleeds and he heads over to greet his friend, Monk Chaeshin. The two go way back, as it turns out, and U-Yeong teases about his religion. These meetings occur monthly but after their friendly meeting, a loud chant from Monk Jeokha breaks their conversation up.
Cha-Young unwittingly continues to feed Joon-Woo information, as she rings him while working out. It’s here he realizes that she was responsible for the fire at the warehouse.On the back of this, he tries to concoct a plan to get his revenge against Cha-Young and Vincenzo.
Vincenzo is smart though and has already figured out that Han-Seo isn’t the real boss. Of course, at this point it’s a catch-up game for our protagonists given we already know the truth. Anyway, not long after he’s made a partner at Wusang Law Firm given Cha-Young’s absence.
Following her scare last episode, Choi Myung-Hee decides to look into Vincenzo, distrusting of his perfectly clean record. She immediately shows up at his office and meets Vincenzo and Cha-Young. Given how cunning Myung-Hee is, Cha-Young hilariously covers for her new partner, telling Myung-Hee that Vincenzo has swollen glands. He even puts on a squeaky voice for her when they finish drinking tea. For now, Myung-Hee is kept off the scent.
When she leaves empty-handed, Cha-Young begins her presentation regarding Babel chemicals. It turns out they’re pretty shady, as one would expect from Babel group, and their chemicals are banned in the US.
Cha-Young does her best to go through the slides without despairing as it turns out Nam Joo-Sung has added some real pizzazz to the different slides. The big tell from this though comes from a picture of Director Gil Jong-Moon, who happens to be the boss of Haemun Medical Center. He’s well known for fabricating diagnosis and is as crooked as they come. Of course, he’s just one cog in this corrupt machine, but Cha-Young is convinced she can work with Vincenzo to take them down.
First up is lawyer Hyeon-u, whom the pair visit and intimidate. They tell him to stand down and warn the man against trying any funny business in the meantime. Next, they visit the victims, learning that the lawyer originally in charge of this case died because he coerced witnesses to perjure in exchange for money. Cha-Young does her best to rally the victims’ families together but it’s Vincenzo who ultimately wins them over.
Meanwhile, Han-Seo comes under fire at Babel HQ when one of the chemical workers passes out on the floor, sputtering blood everywhere. It’s a pretty horrific scene, and as we soon find out, it’s actually U-Yeong. He’s approached by his supervisor who warns him, telling the man to stay quiet about the chemicals.
Back at Geumga Plaza, Vincenzo runs into Park Seok-Do and his goons. They’re not happy about finding a nail in their food and immediately confront Chef Toto about it. When Vincenzo shows, he tells them to pay up and leave the restaurant. Just to prove how serious he is, he knocks out each of the guards and asks again.
Unfortunately, Chef Toto’s plates are smashed in the ensuing skirmish, prompting Vincenzo to apologize and hand over a cheque to cover the expenses. This only makes the other residents more fond of him, as the females comment how Vincenzo isn’t even trying to hide his hotness anymore. With Vincenzo winning the finger flick bet against Cha-Young he begins to warm up. Cha-Young braces herself… as he intentionally misses her face.
Just then, Jung-Woon shows up at the office. He’s immediately flamboyant and gloats about his new position as partner to avoid suspicion from Vincenzo and Cha-Young. They’re not exactly in the congratulatory mood, and it’s only made worse when Joon-Woo mentions spice. Vincenzo slams his hands on the table as the pair head out together, determined to out-spice one another.
Suddenly we shift tone and pace to the hospital as Monk Chaeshin races in to see U-Yeong. He’s not in a good way but reassures his friend that he’s going to be okay. When Gil Jong-Moon shows up, Chaeshin claims to be U-Yeong’s guardian. He breaks the news that his friend has leukemia.
This is almost certainly a result of Babel Chemicals but the Director writes that off, claiming Babel follow their protocols correctly. As we already know, this doctor is part of the corruption.
When Cha-Young and Vincenzo find out, they head off on their own without Joon-Woo, who immediately suspects something is up. Despite this being an industrial problem, the pair talk with the residents about the mess they’re in and how Babel are trying to settle this quietly. After all, if this was pushed a little further then Babel would certainly topple like a house of cards.
With his training complete, Monk Jeokha suddenly stands up and agrees to help all the residents fight back. Well, this fight comes in the form of setting up a big scene in Hyeon-U’s office, calling him evil and chanting. It turns out the families have signed a form to usurp the lawyer from his position. This all came to be thanks to Cha-Young’s smarts, managing to record incriminating audio evidence to rally the residents against him.
At the same time, Vincenzo broke into Hyeon-U’s personal safe, finding cash and gold inside. As Hyeon-U realizes his personal stash is in jeopardy, he hurries into his office and finds the entire safe completely cleared out. The only thing left is a donation certificate to confirm all of his funds have been given up.
With Hyeon-U’s resignation in the bag, Cha-Young dances back into her old the law firm and announces that she’s taking over the victims’ case now. Unfortunately Vincenzo’s voice is instantly recognizable to Myung-Hee who realizes that he may well be the same man who threatened her at the laundrette. Vincenzo outright admits as much, telling her that freedom comes at a cost before walking away.
Han Seung-Hyeok is slow to catch on though, especially when he quizzes Myung-Hee over whether Vincenzo is the culprit behind everything that’s been going wrong with Babel.
Myung-Hee decides to personally take on all the Babel cases herself from now on to try and thwart this threat. Joon-Woo continues to play both sides but Cha-Young refuses to indulge him, not letting on to his plan.
On the back of this he sighs, deciding not to go light on Cha-Young anymore. At the same time, Vincenzo decides to give her some advice, warning Cha-Young that this is a dangerous game and that she needs to play like a villain. And that villainy starts with Hyeon-U dumped on an island alone just off the main coast. Despite shouting at the top of his lungs, there’s no way anyone can hear him.
Next step is the court case itself. Vincenzo decides to sabotage the trial and to do so during the day itself. After discussing the case, the conversation turns to Vincenzo himself and whether he’ll stay in Korea after they’ve settled everything. He chuckles thoughtfully, telling her he has nothing in this country to stay for.
Afterwards, Cha-Young and Vincenzo head in to see Chef Toto who’s cooked up more food. Shockingly, Vincenzo gives it a thumbs up as Toto and the undercover An embrace each other in delight.
Things are certainly looking up for those at Geumga Plaza, as Cha-Young and Vincenzo prepare for their day in court. With their clothes pressed and ironed, along with a beautiful, flashy ride courtesy of Vincenzo, the lawyers all show up at the court house ready to fight.
Just before they head in, Vincenzo tells the reporters in Italian: “Only evil can punish evil.” The Geumga Plaza residents play their part too, putting on a dance routine with signs reading “Babel Chemicals repent.” On their way in, Cha-Young shoots a cheeky wink at the lawyers.
The Episode Review
After last week’s strong episode that found the right balance between comedy and drama, Vincenzo grows in confidence by delivering another funny episode that shoots much closer to Mr Queen’s balance between serious and comedic.
There are still some jarring cuts, like U-Yeong suffering in hospital after a particularly goofy and slapstick segment, but on the whole this tonal balance is much better here.
The flower pot Myung-Hee dropped off at the office is almost certainly a listening device and given Vincenzo’s expertise in all things mafia-related, I’d imagine he’s figured that out too. Agent An has been kept to the shadows for most of this episode though, instead focusing more on the Babel Chemicals plot.
Joon-Woo’s goofiness is far more deliberate here and his moments of silliness make sense in the context of this show. In fact all the humorous elements are really well worked this time around, with Toto finally delivering a good dish for Vincenzo.
Getting the residents involved in this fight is definitely a smart move from the writers and it allows for more purpose beyond window dressing and calling Vincenzo hot.
Speaking of hot, there’a a lot of chatter about that scene with a shirtless Joon-Woo and I’d imagine he’a going to have a hard time being disliked from the female audience after that!
There’s some great chemistry between the leads though and that really helps carry this drama. Yes it’s silly, yes it doesn’t always make a lot of logical sense, but it is a decent comedic drama nonetheless. Whether the show can grow into a memorable K-drama hit remains to be seen though, especially with another 15 episodes to go.

There is always hope even in the darkest of days and hardest of times. As Vincenzo, Cha-young, and our Geumga tenants realize, it’s not going to be easy to go up against monsters like Babel. However, if they all work together and play their role in this fight, the possibilities are endless. Teamwork truly does make the dream work.
Vincenzo: Episode 5 Recap
After burning down Babel Pharmaceutical’s supply warehouse, Vincenzo and the team drive back into town. Vincenzo and Cha-young bid farewell with the 4 family members of the victims and one of the family members even gives Cha-young a warm, comforting hug. They all exit and head back home while Cha-young and Vincenzo stay behind. Meanwhile, Mr. Han updates Lawyer Choi about the fire while Joon-woo reprimands Han-seo for the incident. He puts Han-seo in his place and almost strangles the acting chairman to death. Joon-woo reminds Han-seo that he’s merely his puppet acting as the Chairman of Babel. He also instructs Han-seo to hold an emergency meeting with the board members and to communicate to Wusang that the cause of the fire will be due to electrical overheating and not arson. Han-seo is furious after leaving Joon-woo’s place and he reminds himself of his position as Joon-woo’s puppet. Being a puppet isn’t that bad; after all, he can always cut off the strings.
Cha-young and Vincenzo celebrate their victory by having some drinks together on the rooftop of the plaza. Vincenzo shares that their ultimate goal should be to beat Babel at what they do best: in the court and with the law. Cha-young herself doesn’t feel so confident knowing just how talented and powerful Wusang is, but Vincenzo isn’t fazed. Though he can’t practice law in Korea, he has Cha-young to help her. Since Cha-young did use to work for Wusang, she knows some of their dirtiest secrets, such as which subsidiary from Babel they should target next to make the biggest splash. The subsidiary is none other than Babel Chemicals. Speaking of Babel Chemicals, Monk Chaeshin receives a visit from his friend, Lee U-yeong, an employee of Babel Chemicals. He stops by the temple to have some lunch with Monk Chaeshin. While chatting and catching up, Mr. Lee’s nose begins to bleed and Chaeshin grows concerned for his friend. However, Mr. Lee doesn’t worry about his bleeding nose too much and merely brushes it off.
Chairman Han-seo stops by the gym for his usual workout. Things are a little different this time and he’s approached by an excited fan. It’s none other than Vincenzo! Hahaha. The Italian lawyer is dressed up in workout gear and he pretends to be Han-seo’s biggest fan by reciting quotes from some of Han-seo’s interviews and listing two philosophers that Han-seo must have been influenced by. Han-seo tags along and pretends to act as if he’s familiar with what Vincenzo is referring to. Vincenzo then moves on to mentioning about the fire involving Babel Pharmaceuticals and assumes the cause of the fire was due to arson based off of a tabloid that he read. Vincenzo threatens to sell the shares he has on Babel before walking away. Joon-woo is also working out when he gives Cha-young a call to ask about the fire. Cha-young isn’t afraid to be blunt and honest with Joon-woo. She feels as if Babel Pharmaceuticals had it coming for them and she’s quite content with the outcome of the fire. It’s from this comment alone that Joon-woo walks away with the answer to his burning question. He knows who it was that punished him (AHHHHHH, NOOOO).
Cha-young and Vincenzo hang out at the cafe that they frequent. Based off of his experience with Han-seo at the gym, he’s certain that Han-seo isn’t the real chairman. He’s merely just a puppet. Using the Mafia as an example, Cha-young and Vincenzo conclude that they must get rid of the puppet in order to find out who the real boss is. Mr. Han updates Lawyer Choi on the background check that he committed on Vincenzo and notes that Vincenzo’s record is squeaky clean. There’s nothing on him, but that only makes Lawyer Choi even more suspicious. With that, she heads over to Jipuragi to see for herself who this Vincenzo guy is. When she enters the office, she finds who she assumes is Vincenzo sitting at his desk. However, it’s actually just Mr. Nam cosplaying as Vincenzo. LOL. The plant that she brought with her as a gift is placed on the table in the office and she walks away disappointed by the trickery that Mr. Nam tried to pull on her.
While walking out of the office, Lawyer Choi spots the real Vincenzo as he and Cha-young make their way towards Jipuragi. Upon noticing Lawyer Choi, Cha-young and Vincenzo quickly come up with a plan to distract her. Since he didn’t alter his voice when he threatened her at the laundromat, he is to pretend that his tonsils are sore and he’s unable to speak. So with that, they approach the Wusang lawyer and she’s introduced to Vincenzo. She’s not ready to leave just yet and she invites herself back inside of Jipuragi for some tea with Cha-young and Vincenzo. Cha-young makes sure to to let Vincenzo know that she will do all the talking. So warm cups of tea are served to all three (thanks to Mr. Nam Vincenzo) and Lawyer Choi attempts to trick our Jipuragi lawyers. She warns the two to lay low and to not do anything reckless if they wish to survive for long, just like the plant that she’s gifted them. She even tries to get Vincenzo to speak and say some words. Vincenzo does as Lawyer Choi wants and he does utter some words, but it’s unlike what she expected. He purposely raises his voice to be as high-pitched as possible and lets out a few words (OMG, I AM DYING!!). Lawyer Choi gets to hear Vincenzo speak, but she still feels suspicious about him (Song Joong-ki’s comedic timing is ON POINT!).
Mr. Han receives instructions from Han-seo to promote Joon-woo as a partner at the law firm. Mr. Han can’t seem to quite understand the decision, but he delivers the exciting news to Joon-woo who goes along with the joke. Joon-woo is to move into Cha-young’s office since he’s no longer an intern. Our three musketeers – Vincenzo, Cha-young, and Mr. Nam – all have a meeting to discuss Babel Chemicals. With the help of Mr. Nam who put the PowerPoint together, Cha-young explains to Vincenzo the situation involving Babel Chemicals. There has been 42 victims so far with 9 people dead because of the chemical, BLSD, that Babel Chemicals has been exposing their researchers to. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the lawyer representing the families of the victims – Mr. So Hyun-woo – has been pressuring the families to settle with Babel Chemicals which Cha-young believes is a set-up between Wusang and Mr. So. She also mentions the hospital that she believes is affiliated with Babel: Haemun medical center. Its Director, Gil Jong-moon, has been tricking the families into thinking that the hospital has nothing to do with Babel at all. Media also plays a big part in all of this as seen with Director Chun of Daechang Daily who demands all his journalists to write up positive stories about Babel so that he can get more advertisers in return. It’s all a dirty dirty business and Cha-young is ready to take them down.
As their first step, Vincenzo suggests that they represent the family of the victims. Even though the first trial hearing is only five days away, he’s determined to make things work. Of course, it all starts with the lawyer, Mr. So. So our power couple stop by Mr. So’s office to talk him out of representing the victims. They assume he’s trying to get the families to settle for his own selfish and personal gain, but Mr. So denies all the accusations. He even comes up with excuses that neither Cha-young or Vincenzo buy. While Cha-young demands for Mr. So to send them a document announcing his resignation in representing the families, Vincenzo takes a good look around the office and is struck by a huge painting on the wall. He threatens Mr. So to give up or else Mr. So will end up on a deserted place where no one will be able to hear him or find him. Mr. So is petrified, but he pretends to play it off as if he’s not. Cha-young and Vincenzo make it clear that they’re here to fight and win. Period.
Han-seo reconvenes with the board members of Babel for some lunch. Just like all the other times before, he uses the spicy noodle soup to threaten the board members into coming up with a plan to combat Babel’s declining stocks. However, Han-seo’s power trip is cut short when he receives a call from Joon-woo who instructs him to visit the Babel Chemicals headquarters with a reporter from Daechang Daily. Han-seo is to make it seem as if the BLSD is ready to be released on the market so that the stocks for Babel can rise back up. Han-seo is humiliated by Joon-woo once again and groans in aggravation after the phone call. Cha-young and Vincenzo hang out and grab some hotdogs and burgers together. Cha-young assumes that it might be easier to just have the families of the victims fire Mr. So than them getting Mr. So to quit. She’s so stubborn she makes a bet with Vincenzo that she can succeed in persuading the families. If she loses the bet, Vincenzo can flick his finger on her forehead as a form of punishment. Vincenzo isn’t so opened to the idea. It’s not like they’re kids and, plus, he doesn’t hit women even if it’s a game.
So Cha-young showcases her acting skills and cries during a meeting with the 5 family members involved in the lawsuit against Babel Chemicals. She encourages them to not give up and to keep fighting. There’s a chance they could win. However, the clients aren’t so interested in Cha-young’s talk and are adamant on their decision to settle. They’re going to stick with Mr. So and settle like he recommended. The clients are scared, especially after hearing what happened to Lawyer Hong because of his involvement in the lawsuit against Babel Pharmaceuticals. Cha-young freezes upon hearing the clients speak bad about her father and it takes her a few seconds to process their comments. She argues that she wants to fight against Babel just like her father did because she knows there’s hope. There’s hope in bringing the conglomerate down. Unfortunately, Cha-young’s speech proves to be futile and it’s of no use. The clients are keen on settling. Just then, Vincenzo interrupts the conversation by turning on a power horn in the room and using it to advocate for himself and Cha-young. Unlike other lawyers, he and Cha-young are used to winning and could also win in the battle against Babel if the clients just trust them. If not, they’ll be losing out on a great opportunity.
Han-seo does as he is told by Joon-woo and he stops by Babel Chemicals to congratulate the company on the success of BLSD. He shakes his hand with each of the researchers and comes close to shaking hands with Mr. Lee. However, Mr. Lee isn’t feeling so good and he falls to the ground after coughing out some blood onto Han-seo’s face and body. Panic ensues and Han-seo demands to be rushed to the hospital. Poor Mr. Lee is an afterthought and is even instructed by one of the other researchers to sign a NDA or else he won’t be taken to the hospital. Ughhh. Mr. Park, Soo-nam, and their Babel gang gang up on our Geumga tenants inside of Chef Toto’s restaurant. They’re intimidating and it’s odd to see them at the restaurant. They even pull off one of their dirty stunt and accuses Chef Toto of throwing a nail in Soo-nam’s plate of food. Things aren’t looking so great, but Cha-young and Vincenzo pull up just in time to teach the Babel gang a lesson. Although Mr. Park shouts at his men to resist fighting Vincenzo, his men engage in the fighting anyways. Just as expected, Vincenzo beats all the men up and he reigns a winner. However, he’s not the only winner as Chef Toto gets paid for his food and also receives extra money from Vincenzo for the broken plates and cutlery. Aww, Vincenzooo.
So with that, our power couple retreat to their second home, Jipuragi, only to bid farewell with Mr. Nam who prepares to head out for a blind date. After he leaves, Cha-young and Vincenzo are left alone and Vincenzo wants Cha-young to keep her promise. They did have a bet earlier and Cha-young did lose the bet. Vincenzo warms up and prepares to give Cha-young a good finger flick on her forehead. Cha-young reminds Vincenzo of his rule about not hitting women, but she’s the exception this time. So with that, Cha-young drags her feet towards Vincenzo and squeezes her eyes shut. She assumes she’s going to feel a flicker of pain across her forehead within any second. Vincenzo focuses in on his target and places his finger right in the middle of Cha-young’s forehead. He’s about ready to strike, but instead of focusing on his finger flicking skills, he studies Cha-young’s face and slightly smirks at how adorable she is (EEEEEK, I’M SQUEALING SO HARD RIGHT NOW. I LOVE THIS SCENE SOOOO MUCH!). In the end, he does unleash a finger flick on her forehead, but it’s a soft and weak one (AWW, HE WENT EASY ON HER!! Who knew finger flicking could be so romantic?!).
Just then, the romantic moment between the two is interrupted with a surprise and sudden visit from Joon-woo. He delivers the exciting news to Cha-young about his promotion as a partner at Wusang, but her stale reaction disappoints him. To congratulate Joon-woo’s promotion, she offers to treat him out to some spicy jjamppong for dinner instead. Vincenzo sits himself out on the dinner date, but it’s not until Joon-woo and Cha-young provokes him about his low spice tolerance that he gives in. He and Joon-woo go at it all night while eating their spicy bowl of jjamppong (which is clearly too spicy for the both of them). Whether it’s eating the spicy noodle soup or just talking to each other, the two are too competitive. Hahaha, I love this friendly competition that isn’t so friendly. Monk Chaeshin rushes to the hospital where Mr. Lee is located and grows worried upon seeing him. Mr. Lee never thought that such a thing would happen to him, but he’s prepared for the worst. Monk Chaeshin receives an update from Director Gil about Mr. Lee and is informed that the Babel Chemicals researcher has leukemia. Chaeshin questions whether Babel Chemicals could have had anything to do with Mr. Lee’s health, but Director Gil shoots down any suspicions. He places the blame back on Mr. Lee for failing to follow work protocols.
The dinner date finally ends and Cha-young can’t help but be amused at how competitive the two lawyers were against each other. She then receives a phone call from Monk Chaeshin and is informed to head back to the plaza. With that, she helps Vincenzo up and the two walk together back to the plaza. Joon-woo watches as the duo leave the restaurant side by side. Cha-young and Vincenzo are updated about Mr. Lee’s incident by Monk Chaeshin and the two fill the rest of the tenants in on the corruption of Babel Chemicals and the hospital lead by Director Gil. The hospital is conspiring with Babel so they lied to Chaeshin about Mr. Lee’s health. His incident was a result of working with the toxic substance, BLSD, at Babel Chemicals. Cha-young explains that lawsuits against Babel is usually settled not because of the huge settlement money they offer, but because they know they’ll lose if they don’t settle quietly. The tenants are frustrated with the news, but they also worry for Mr. Lee. He was like family to them and they want him to recover and receive justice. And it seems as if things might just go that way when the head monk of the template, Monk Jeokha, awakens from his training. Now that he’s finished his training, he can contribute with the rest of the team. It’s time to get started.
And so Monk Jeokha and Chaeshin pull off their stunt with the clients of the lawsuit in the meeting room that Mr. So usually conducts his meeting in. He goes in expecting it to be just like all the other times he’s met with his clients, but this time, it’s different. He’s confused and shocked when he finds the two monks inside the room and is even more stunned when he finds Cha-young and Vincenzo waiting outside in the hallway for him. They’re well aware of what evil deeds and acts he’s committed and how he was bribed by Wusang to work with the clients. Cha-young received direct confirmation from her former Wusang colleague who confessed to Mr. So getting paid by Wusang. Of course, she recorded the conversation and played it as proof to the families of the victims to convince them. So what happened to all that money then? Vincenzo was able to access it in the safe that Mr. So has hidden behind the huge painting that Vincenzo noticed during his first visit. Fingerprints give a lot away and Mr. So should have been more careful about cleaning his office. Our power couple poke fun at Mr. So and his money so the lawyer runs to his office in search of the bars of gold he had stacked. Just as expected, there’s nothing left inside the safe except for a document acknowledging the donation he’s made under his name, lol. Niiiiiice!
Cha-young and Vincenzo’s next stop is Wusang. Cha-young struts into the law firm with confidence and it’s clear resigning from the place was the best decision she could have ever made. She and Vincenzo meet with Mr. Han and Lawyer Choi to deliver the news that they will be the new lawyers representing the families of the victims in the Babel Chemicals lawsuit. Wusang could make things less difficult if they cease the manufacture of BLSD and clarify the lies that they’ve been spreading. They should also admit their wrongdoings and compensate the families of the victims who died. Of course, this is too much for Wusang and they refuse to back down. Taunting and threats are thrown from every angle in the room, but it’s Vincenzo’s final remarks that leaves everyone speechless. He reminds Lawyer Choi that they can do whatever they want, but they should remember that freedom comes with a price. With that, our power couple leaves the law firm and is encouraged by Joon-woo to back out while they can. It’s too big of a war and they won’t make it out alive. Neither Cha-young or Vincenzo plan on stopping so Joon-woo himself is forced to give up. He can no longer go easy on Cha-young. Upset, Lawyer Choi assigns herself to all the cases related to Babel. She’s also ready to fight, especially after realizing that Vincenzo was the one who threatened her on the phone back at the laundromat.
Later on that night, Vincenzo and Cha-young have an honest chat with each other on the rooftop of the plaza. Vincenzo admits that Cha-young’s got the greed and fight in her to win, but there’s more she needs to learn if she wants to win against Lawyer Choi and Wusang. He notes that it isn’t their goal to win the first trial hearing; they just gotta make sure that no one wins or loses. Vincenzo proposes that he’s going to teach Cha-young to be a real villain this time; in return, he is to also listen to Cha-young when she gives him advice. The two strike an agreement before focusing their attention back on Mr. So. What happened to him anyways? Vincenzo follows through with his words and just like he stated he would, Mr. So ends up deserted and alone by the river across from his apartment complex. He calls out to his wife, but his wife is busy reporting his disappearance and can’t hear him. Omg, lol.
Cha-young, Vincenzo, and Mr. Nam come up with their game plan for the first trial hearing. They can’t postpone the trial as it’s too late, but Vincenzo has another trick up his sleeve. Who says they have to do it before the trial? They can invalidate the trial during the trial, no? So our trio stay up late into the night and work together to prepare. When morning hits, our power couple sit down and have a casual conversation with each other about the lawsuit and Vincenzo’s plans after everything ends. Since he doesn’t have any attachment to the country, he plans on leaving once things wrap up. Cha-young seems a bit disappointed by Vincenzo’s response, but it’s obvious that he himself isn’t so ready to leave just quite yet. A part of him might be second guessing himself at this point.
Just then, Mr. Tak enters Jipuragi and volunteers to take care of the clothes that our two lawyers will be sporting to the first trial hearing (awww!). He irons their clothes out so well Vincenzo and Cha-young are clearly satisfied with his great work. The other Geumga tenants also show their support for our power couple in their own ways. Chef Toto has some food prepared for Vincenzo, but it’s made by his mother with her special touch. Vincenzo actually doesn’t spit out the food this time and he gives Chef Toto a thumbs up. Haha. Even our monks are in the temple praying for Cha-young and Vincenzo’s win. And so the two embark on their first trial hearing together as a team. Things are going great until Cha-young forgets her car keys, but Vincenzo is always prepared. He has his own car that they can use to show up to the party.
Wusang shows up first to the courthouse and they’re bombarded by the crowd of reporters and journalists waiting outside. Lawyer Choi says a few words of demeaning comments about the plaintiffs and how you should never believe the weak just because they’re weak. With that, everyone else waits for the actual important and relevant people of the lawsuit to show up and they grow curious when they see a small car appear at the entrance of the courthouse. Unlike what they expected, it’s not Cha-young and Vincenzo. It’s just another lawyer who’s upset at the crowd blocking her path and she barks at them to get out of her way, lol. A few seconds later though and our power couple do finally make their long awaited appearance. It’s all totally worth it and everyone’s eyes are fixed on Cha-young and Vincenzo. First off, Vincenzo’s car is a luxurious, rich, and pretty foreign car. Second, Vincenzo and Cha-young exit the car in the most extra and dramatic fashion. They’re confident, hot, and fierce and they really don’t care what others think. Cha-young makes sure to introduce herself to all the reporters and even strikes a few poses in between. The duo then make their way up the stairs towards the courthouse, but they’re not done just yet.
At the top of the stairs, the duo turns around so Vincenzo can take off his sunglasses and deliver his iconic Italian line, “Only evil can punish evil.” Everyone’s eyes then dart across the street towards the protest and demonstration that our Geumga tenants have put on. While the reporters and journalists rush over to capture the demonstration, our two Jipuragi lawyers stay where they are — impressed and proud. They give the tenants a thumbs up before proceeding into the courthouse. Of course, it wouldn’t be a battle without some provoking and Cha-young and Lawyer Choi taunt each other through their face expressions and gestures. Cha-young merely winks at Lawyer Choi before smiling slyly and walking alongside Vincenzo into the courthouse.
And that’s how you make a grand entrance.
My Thoughts:
It’s getting close to 2am right now and I’m sitting here wondering why this recap is taking me longer than usual to finish only to realize: it’s because I’m trying to capture and screenshot every single shot in this episode! I’ve seen many Korean dramas and movies in my lifetime and I have to say, I don’t think there’s been that many endings to an episode of a Korean drama that’s impressed me as much as the ending to this episode has. I can’t even tell you how I felt when I first watched this episode. The last ten minutes was by far the most iconic and epic scene I’ve witnessed in a drama in such a long time and I LOVED every single second of it (and by every second I mean every second). You can’t watch Cha-young and Vincenzo pull up to the courthouse and not tell me that you weren’t in love with them! It was already easy to root for them before, but now? I hope they blow Babel out of the waterpark (which I know they eventually will).
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m caught up with all the episodes so far and episode 5 still takes the cake for me in terms of the best episode so far. There were SO many wonderful things about this episode and I felt like there was a good balance of the politics, the action, and the humor. The thing I loved the most was the teamwork between our Geugma tenants and their contributions in supporting our Jipuragi team. We’re slowly witnessing the tenants go from doubting Vincenzo and being suspicious of Cha-young to trusting in them and contributing in their fight against Babel. They all embody certain characteristics that Lawyer Hong carried with him for years and it really showed in this episode. They want to take Babel down not only to save themselves and Geumga Plaza, but also because it’s the right thing to do. Where they might have been hopeless before, they’re hopeful now and that’s because of Cha-young and Vincenzo.
This episode fed us so incredibly well with the amount of interactions between our lead couple and I couldn’t be more grateful or happy. I wasn’t expecting as much teamwork between them in this episode so it was such a pleasant surprise to watch the two take down Mr. So and to gather more evidence against Babel Chemicals for the trial. In episode 4, we sort of got a glimpse into Cha-young and Vincenzo’s dynamic as business partners and teammates, but they went all out in this episode and it was so much fun watching them take down Mr. So. You really got to see just how well the two mesh together and how they compliment each other. My most favorite scene in this episode definitely had to be the finger-flicking scene. My heart was fluttering so much and I had to pause my phone and throw it on my bed away from me at one point because of how nervous I was. I was hyperventilating and I just couldn’t handle it.
I also loved the scene where Cha-young and Vincenzo chatted about his future plans after the Babel lawsuit. It not only indicates how confident they feel about winning against Wusang and Babel, but it was also just a much more intimate and informal conversation between the two about something other than Babel. The conversation also spoke volumes about this yearning that they both feel grow inside of them the more they spend time together. It’s as if Vincenzo doesn’t mind staying and it’s as if Cha-young wants him to stay. I don’t think Vincenzo ever intended to be as involved as he is with the Geumga tenants and I don’t think he ever imagined himself to be in his current situation. I think the same could be said about Cha-young too who probably imagined that she’d be working for Wusang forever.
Their lives have inarguably shifted with the circumstances they were both confronted with and it’s only made them stronger. They’ve opened their eyes to the realms of possibilities now that doors they were certain would be opened are closed and doors they never knew could happen are opened. Though Vincenzo might still have plans to leave Korea after everything ends, I think he wouldn’t be opposed to staying in the country. I wouldn’t be surprised if he does end up staying merely because of the strong connections he’s built with Cha-young and the Geugma tenants (and also because of his mother). Vincenzo’s reaction in that scene alone just proved how conflicted and unsure he felt about Cha-young’s question. I love it even more that Cha-young was brave enough to just casually bring up the topic and to plant that seed in his head. They could do amazing things together if he were to stay.
This will forever be my favorite shot of Cha-young and Vincenzo together. The power they both radiate in this photo is amazing!
Another thing I love about Cha-young and Vincenzo is how honest and raw and vulnerable they can be with each other. They’re going to learn a lot about each other in the process of working together which means they’re going to have difficult conversations or they’re going to see sides of each other that might not be so pretty. Such as was the case when the clients brought up Lawyer Hong’s death and his involvement with the lawsuit against Babel Pharmaceuticals. You can tell just how shocked and taken aback Cha-young was by the comment and how reactive she was in defending her father. I’m glad that Cha-young stood up for herself and her father to clear up his image and reputation. Her father’s name shouldn’t be tarnished based off of a bunch of lies and nonsense spread about him.

However, what I loved even more was how Vincenzo immediately noticed Cha-young’s shift in her mood and how he stepped in to support her. Since Cha-young was angry and didn’t know what else to say or how else to react in that moment, he made his presence known by adding onto what Cha-young had already been telling the clients just minutes before. I just love how he pays attention to Cha-young and observes her and makes sure she’s okay in his own small, subtle ways. He respects her, gives her the space to be herself, and doesn’t reject her for who she is, but he also looks out for her. Vincenzo can be brutally honest with Cha-young because he knows she has what it takes to win but he’s also well aware of aspects that she can improve on if she wishes to win. Like he mentioned, he wants to teach her how to become a real villain in order to defeat Babel. He’s also willing to teach her and be taught by her because their relationship is mutual and because he respects her for what she does and who she is. If it isn’t obvious already, I’m wholeheartedly enjoying the dynamics between our power couple (which is my official couple name for them now because of how truly powerful they are together). Combine this with the strong connection and teamwork they’re building with the Geumga tenants and you’ve got a great recipe for success.

Vincenzo Episode 5
After literally burning the Babel Group pharmaceutical warehouse, Vincenzo Cassano (Song Joong Ki), Hong Cha Young (Jeon Yeo Bin), Mr. Nam and the test subjects end their evening with satisfaction, smiles, and bows. One hugs Cha Young in gratitude who is touched at the gesture. The test subjects drive away. Mr. Nam drives the truck away giving Vincenzo and Cha Young a thumbs up.
Lawyer Choi Myung Hee is not happy to learn the Babel Group pharmaceuticals was burned when her co-worker and primary partner of Woosung Law Firm, Lawyer Han Seung Hyeok, calls.
The secret power behind Babel Group, Jang Joon Woo (TaecYeon) warns the Babel Group figurehead Chairman Jang Han Seo not to do anything without his oversight. Joon Woo puts Chairman Jang in a chokehold to make the point that he’s the master puppeteer. Joon Woo decides to claim an electrical malfunction as the cause. He orders Chairman Jang to gather the board and speak to Woosung Law Firm per his instructions.
Chairman Jang exits Joon Woo’s house irked but notes that is he’s merely a puppet he can cut the strings Joon Woo holds at any time.
Vincenzo wants Cha Young to be the lawyer muscle in his plan to beat Babel Group. Cha Young points out she knows the unsavory side of Babel Group. She shares that Babel Group’s most vulnerable subsidiary is Babel Group Chemicals.
The apprentice monk and his friend that works at Babel Group Chemical get together for a meal at the basement template in the Geumga Plaza building. They get boisterous and the meditating monk expresses his displeasure.
Vincenzo pretends to be a fan boy of Chairman Jang when he intentionally accidentally runs into him at the gym. After flattering Chairman Jang, Vincenzo says the Babel Group pharmaceuticals fire is rumored to be arson and the share price is taking a hit. He leaves while Chairman Jang looks on his phone for confirmation. Vincenzo walks away knowing that Chairman Jang isn’t the master mind at Babel Group.
Joon Woo calls Cha Young to discuss the fire. He realizes she was involved with the retribution.
Cha Young and Vincenzo wonder who the real Babel Group master mind is. They discuss targeting Chairman Jang.
Lawyer Han tells Lawyer Choi that Vincenzo’s record is clean in Italy. That makes her suspicious. Lawyer Han assures that he’s made further inquiries. Lawyer Choi decides she needs to see what Vincenzo looks like.
Lawyer Choi goes to Jipuragi Law Firm to see Vincenzo. She doesn’t know that when Mr. Nam claims to be Vincenzo, it isn’t true. She’s taken aback, this man is less than impressive. She shakes her head and tells Mr. Nam she knows he isn’t Vincenzo.
As she walks down the hallway, she spies Cha Young and Vincenzo coming toward her. They see her. Under her breath, Cha Young asks Vincenzo if he disguised his voice when he threatened Lawyer Choi. Vincenzo murmurs no. Lawyer Choi asks Cha Young is this is Vincenzo. She confirms it but claims Vincenzo lost his voice. Lawyer Choi demands to talk. She advises them to lay low. She’s forced to leave when Cha Young stands and Vincenzo won’t speak.
Joon Woo pretends to be surprised when Lawyer Han makes him a partner after meeting with Chairman Jang. Lawyer Han wonders if Joon Woo is a relation of Chairman Jang.
Babel Group has another harmful drug whose tests results are being suppressed. Cha Young briefs Vincenzo and Mr. Nam on a lawsuit against Babel Group whose victims’ number 42 with 9 dead. Lawyer So represents the victims and is pressuring the victims to settle to avoid trial. Cha Young believes Lawyer So is working with Woosung Law Firm. In addition, the hospital that treated the victims is owned by Babel Group and has suppressed the test results of the victims. Helping in the coverup are newspapers that only write positive articles about Babel Group, not the truth. Vincenzo wants Jipuragi Law Firm to represent the victims. Cha Young points out it is only 5 days until the trial. They could never be prepared. Vincenzo believes they can deal with that IF they get the chance to represent the victims.
Vincenzo and Cha Young meet with Lawyer So. They suggest he’s not working hard for his clients and feathering his bank account. Cha Young tells him to resign or else. Vincenzo threatens to send him far away. Lawyer So is spitting mad. Cha Young advises him to hand over his clients to a lawyer that will fight for them.
Chairman Jang berates his management team for not coming up with a plan while forcing them to eat spicy food without water. Joon Woo calls Chairman Jang, who immediately steps out of the meeting to take the call. Joon Woo guesses what Chairman Jang is doing. Chairman Jang believes it is an effective training tool. Joon Woo sighs and continues moving into Cha Young’s old office. He tells Chairman Jang to go to Babel Group Chemical with a Babel Group friendly newspaper reporter and hype the new drug as almost ready. Chairman Jang points out the new drug isn’t ready. Joon Woo tells him to make it look positive, that’s all the matters in Korea and ends the phone call. Chairman Jang chafes at being the front man without power.
Cha Young bets Vincenzo she can persuade the victims to switch to her before Lawyer So hands them over. She tries tears and pleading but it doesn’t work. When one of them notes the last case against Babel Group had a less than honorable lawyer, Cha Young snaps that lawyer was her father. She implores them to let her fight Babel Group just like her father did. The victims prefer to settle. Vincenzo jumps in and states Cha Young never loses and they need a lawyer just like that.
Chairman Jang arrives at Babel Group Chemical. He declares the new drug is a dream come true. He thanks the researchers and shakes their hands. One of the researchers collapses (the apprentice monk’s friend) and splatters blood on Chairman Jang who doesn’t take it well. Chairman Jang flees and the researcher is told to sign the confidentiality agreement or he won’t receive medical treatment.
The fake Italian chef is appalled when Mr. Park and his thugs supposedly find a nail in their pasta. Undercover Agent An Ki Seok realizes the thugs are trying to pressure the eatery into closing with false claims. Cha Young and Vincenzo enter. Mr. Park tells his men not to engage with Vincenzo, who has bested them before. The men don’t listen. Vincenzo dispatches the thugs single handedly. Cha Young warns Mr. Park they can sue him for false claims. Mr. Park is forced to pay the bill before he and his men retreat.
Back at Jipuragi Law Firm, Vincenzo reminds Cha Young she lost the bet and the penalty, a forehead finger flick, is his due. She reminds him that he claimed never to hit women. He counters she claimed a finger flick doesn’t count. Vincenzo poises his finger near Cha Young, who braces. She urges him to get it over with. Vincenzo steps close and can’t help but smile. He “misses”.
Joon Woo bursts into the office with the news he’s been made a partner at Woosung Law Firm. She offers to take him out for spicy food to celebrate. Vincenzo declines. Joon Woo taunts that Italians can’t handle spicy food. Vincenzo and Joon Woo one up each other about peppers they eat. Vincenzo agrees to join them.
The men try to hide their difficulties with the spice level. Joon Woo notes Vincenzo looks harmless on the outside but wonders if he’s cold and cruel.
Didn’t Joon Woo just describe himself?
The apprentice monk rushes into the emergency room where his friend that works at Babel Group Chemical lies bloody on the bed. His friend asks him to pray for him. A doctor (that shields Babel Group) tells the monk that his friend has leukemia likely brought on by smoking and working too much. The doctor assures the inquiring monk that Babel Group Chemical has safety protocols and regardless this isn’t an illness associated with work.
Both men are hurting after the spicy meal. Cha Young gets a call from the monk and tells Vincenzo they need to return to work. Joon Woo watches them go, the goofy look gone, and a hardness replacing it.
The associate monk and tenants meet with Cha Young and Vincenzo. They learn that the friend, which they’ve all known for years, isn’t the only victim of the Babel Group Chemical testing. They want Babel Group Chemical exposed. The monk finished his meditation and states he can help too. Cha Young and Vincenzo head to the office to start working on the case.
Lawyer So is shocked to find the monk and associate monk praying in his office with the victims below a banner to pray for Cha Young and Vincenzo’s victory. They tell Lawyer So to leave. Lawyer So doesn’t believe they can prove their claims. Vincenzo points out that when paid in cash, most people keep the cash close for quick access.
Flashback…Vincenzo searches Lawyer So’s office and finds the safe behind the painting. He breaks into the safe and finds the cash and gold.
Cha Young relays the victims know of Lawyer So’s treachery. Lawyer So rushes to the safe and finds it empty save a donation receipt. He yells in frustration. Then someone hits him from behind.
Cha Young and Vincenzo meet with Lawyer Han and Lawyer Choi to inform them Jipuragi Law Firm is now representing the victims. Lawyer Choi realizes Vincenzo is the one that threatened her in the laundromat. He even uses the same phrase “freedom comes at a price”. Cha Young and Vincenzo want Babel Group Chemical to admit wrongdoing, compensate the victims, and stop making the dangerous drug. Lawyer Han and Lawyer Choi refuse.
After Vincenzo and Cha Young leave, Lawyer Han admits a bit of a lawyer crush on Vincenzo. Lawyer Choi states she’s the POC for all Babel Group cases. Lawyer Han loves it. Lawyer Choi declares they’ll feel her abilities soon.
Joon Woo tells Cha Young to stop, they can’t win. Cha Young disagrees. Joon Woo watches them go. He murmurs he must go hard on Cha Young now.
Cha Young tells Vincenzo she’s surprised Lawyer Choi took the case but believes she can win. Vincenzo counters she has a 90% probability to lose. Vincenzo tells her not to forget her opponent is greedy, mean, and smart. Vincenzo doesn’t believe they’ll win the first hearing. It’s more important to make sure it is a draw. Vincenzo wants Cha Young to follow his advice so she can become the villain to defeat a villain. Cha Young agrees on the condition that when she gives advice, he follows it. Vincenzo agrees.
Lawyer So unzips the sleeping bag and finds himself on the river bank with Seoul in the distance.
Mr. Nam, Cha Young and Vincenzo discuss strategy. Vincenzo wants to void the case during the hearing.

The next morning, Cha Young and Vincenzo believe they are ready. She asks what he’ll do after the lawsuit is done. Vincenzo will leave. Cha Young asks if he’ll leave before taking down Babel Group. Vincenzo claims this lawsuit will satisfy his need for revenge. Cha Young asks if Vincenzo is considering staying in Korea. Taken aback, Vincenzo says he has no attachment to Korea. Cha Young tells him to leave and live his best life.
The dry cleaner presses their court clothes. The fake Italian chef offers a meal he and his apprentice have prepared. It isn’t Italian but Korean food. Vincenzo takes a bite. He gives a thumbs up to the thrilled chefs. Cha Young and Vincenzo don their perfectly pressed court clothes. They give the pleased dry clean a thumbs up. When Cha Young forgets her car keys, Vincenzo offers to drive.
The Woosung Law Firm team arrives at the court house. The waiting press swarm. Lawyer Choi declares the charges against her client are false.
The Jipuragi Law Firm arrives at the court house in a sleek Ferrari. Vincenzo and Cha Young exit with sunglasses in place, looking too cool for court. Cha Young announces who she is and who she represents then poses with the car. The press swarm and follow them into the court house.
Joon Woo has to smile at the showmanship. Woosung Law Firm heads up the court house steps.
At the top of the steps, Vincenzo states in Italian, only evil can defeat evil.
Across the street the tenants hold signs against Babel Group Chemical and shout they won’t live life coughing up blood. It’s performance art against Babel Group Chemical.
Vincenzo gives it a thumbs up. Cha Young gives it a thumbs up.
Lawyer Choi and the Woosung Law Firm walks to Vincenzo and Cha Young. They stare. Cha Young gives a confident smile. Vincenzo follows suit. They turn and stride into the courthouse.
My Thoughts
Best courthouse entrance ever. Writer Park Jae Bum kept the episode focused on pretrial positioning for the next case against Babel Group. Vincenzo found Lawyer So’s Achilles heel, the money in the vault, and stole it. The donation receipt was inspired. With Cha Young officially the lawyer of record for the plaintiff, Lawyer Choi declared herself the lawyer of record for Babel Group. Joon Woo maintained his façade of goofy lawyer around Vincenzo and Cha Young but the gloves came off with his puppet cousin, Chairman Jang. Will Chairman Jang’s desire to make his own choices aid Team Good in the future? Writer Park struck the perfect balance between humor and drama in this episode. In the initial episodes, the tenants were caricatures. Now they seem like quirky people that add to the story. Director Kim Hee Won (Money Flower) stages the scenes well. The camera lovingly captures Song Joong Ki. But the best of the episode was the burgeoning partnership between Cha Young and Vincenzo. It was fun to watch their banter and brains collide and collude. Thumbs up!
Vincenzo Cassano (Song Joong Ki) created the strategy. Vincenzo used tactics learned from his stint as the mafia lawyer in Italy. He pointed out (more than once) the collusion between conglomerates, government, police, news agencies, etc. is difficult to defeat. The deck is stacked against Team Good. Even so, you feel Vincenzo and Cha Young will find a way. They won’t win every battle. Woosung Law Firm and Babel Group is too powerful. Let’s take a moment to appreciate Vincenzo. Handsome, suave and smart, he not only seduces with his looks but his brains too. Has Song Joong Ki ever been more appealing?
Hong Cha Young (Jeon Yeo Bin) exudes confidence. Cha Young is now the heart of Jipuragi Law Firm and ready to take on Lawyer Choi in court. The disdain between the two women only enhances the anticipation of the upcoming courtroom battle. I had to chuckle at Cha Young’s ability to eat the heat while Vincenzo and Joon Woo struggled though their masculine pride refused to admit it. There was a moment when Cha Young asked if Vincenzo would stay in Korea. Surprised, he considered then declined. Cha Young hid her disappointment well. I love that Vincenzo and Cha Young are equals.
The first song of the OST “There was never a shadow” sung by Choi Sung Hoon is the opening aria from the 1738 opera “Serse” by George Frideric Handel.

After the big reveal last week, I am kind of sad to say that my love for this drama has gone down a bit. It is more of a strong like right now instead of a ♫LOVEEEE♫. The reveal was big, though it also had me thinking, wait a minute…what about my cute little muffin? Hence my delima.
VINCENZO RECAP EPISODE 5
We open with Vincenzo and lawyer Hong saying goodbye to the family members, then we cut to the real chairman Jang talking to his little brother and calling him his puppet. He strangles him for a moment and tells him that he has to do as he says. When the little brother finally is able to leave, it appears that he has something up his sleeve as well.
Meanwhile, Vincenzo and Cha-young decide to attack Babel in a legal way. Cha-yong says that they can go through Babels Chemistry department because they are super duper corrupt. The most corrupt out of all Babel.
We find out that one of the chemicals Babel makes is making their employees very sick. Then they send the employees to a doctor that they provide and they also pay off the lawyer for the families case against the company. One of the people affected i a friend to the monk tenant in the Building and is also friendly with every tenant in the building.
In this episode, Vincenzo finds out that the chairman is a fake chairmand by talking to him at the gym. At the same time, Jang Joon-woo finds out that Hong Cha-young is behind the fire at their warehouse.
In order to find out if Vincenzo is the one that threatened her, Myung-hee goes to Vincenzo’s office. But Vincenzo pretends to have throat pain and does not speak to her. However, it is clear that Myung-hee is on to him.
This entire episode is basically about Vincenzo and Cha-yong trying to convince the families of the Babel Chemistry victims to switch to their law firm. it takes some doing to get this to happen. In the end, they record a lawyer friend of Cha-yong’s explaining how corrupt Babel Chemistry is while they went out drinking. So now the family members are all in with Vincenzo and Cha-yong’s law firm.
The entire tenant team helps Vincenzo for court. So we get a nice montage of the Italian chef preparing Korean food for him and the dry cleaner actually doing an excellent job of preparing a suit for Vincenzo.
As far as court is concerned, Vincenzo knows that they won’t win the regular way; they have to create a distraction to stand a chance of winning. So Vincenzo drives a lamborghini to court to gather all the attention of the journalists, and the tenants also have an exhibit style protest across the street to draw the attention even more.
The Babel lawyers are annoyed by it. Vincenzo and Cha-yong give them a look and walk confidently into the courthouse.
Aw man, I don’t like Taecyeon as a bad guy at all. Perhaps it would have been great if he started out as a bad guy? Because now I really love him as the cute junior lawyer who helps out lawyer Hong when she needs it. I was really hoping he would be that person on the inside who gave her tips as to what the lawyer team was doing and then he would also switch to the good guy side.
But he is the ultimate evil? Okay, I can try and get behind that (emphasis on the word try). The problem is that, to me, he doesn’t look scary and intimidating as Chairman Jang at all. Taecyeon does not come across as strong or intimidating to me, but he does come across as adorable with a side of sexy.
Kwak Dong-yeon on the other had, is holding it down as the fake chairman of Babel. Sure, he isn’t the real boss, but he looks like a bad*s boss. He also looks like a cute innocent little brother as well.
It almost makes me think that the roles should have been reversed? Maybe Taecyeon should have played the boss/not-boss and Kwak Dong Yeon should have played the innocent hubae who ended up being the boss? Those are my thoughts right now.
I am continuing to love the styling and storyline of Vincenzo, though I really want them to dial it way back on the Italy/Mafia references. It makes me cringe whenever it comes up. I feel like they should keep it as, Vincenzo being from Italy informs how he acts and that’s it, that’s literally all we need to know. All the references to Italy and the mafia going forward stand the chance of moving into poor taste land which is why they should be few and far between. Though those are just my thoughts.
In a side note, we are swamped with non-kdrama related work which is why we haven’t been able to update the site or YouTube with our new dramas we are watching. We are still following along with all the news though. What a crazy week in Kdramaland…

The cleaning crew disband after setting Babel Pharmaceuticals ablaze, and the victim’s family thanks the Jipuragi team. The mother hugs Cha-young, and she is moved. Is this what her father was fighting for?
Jun-woo brings Han-seo home and scolds him. He strangles Han-seo, reminding him he’s just a puppet and to not let the chairman title get to his head. The plan is to cover up the arson as an electrical fire, but Han-seo will still need to call an emergency board meeting to address the stock price drop. Jun-woo also instructs Han-seo to give Wusang an unspecified order. As Han-seo sits in his car afterward, he muses that a marionette can always cut its strings.
Cha-young and Vincenzo are having beers on the Geumga Plaza rooftop. Sadly, they can’t keep causing explosions, so they’ll have to come up with a courtroom strategy. Vincenzo may not be able to practice law in Korea, but he knows how to put the (literal and figurative) heat on people while she has both the license to practice and the insider knowledge on Babel. She knows Babel’s most vulnerable subsidiary, and the one that rigs its stock price the most, is Babel Chemicals. They are developing a revolutionary new chemical for use in digital displays that is also so highly toxic to humans, it is banned for use in other countries.
Monk Chaeshin’s friend Lee U-yeong comes to visit, and he happens to be an employee at Babel Chemicals. The two old friends share memories of their younger years when, suddenly, U-yeong’s nose starts bleeding. The monk notes that his friend has lost a lot of weight lately.
It’s morning and everyone is getting their workout on. Vincenzo finds Han-seo at the gym and spots him while he’s doing bench presses. He strikes up a conversation while pretending to be a Babel/Chairman Jang superfan and, in the process, deduces that Han-seo isn’t the real boss. Vincenzo rattles him with mention of the arson at Babel Pharmaceuticals — he’s a shareholder, but he’ll be selling off his stock now since it’s worthless.
Meanwhile, Jun-woo watches news of the fire on his treadmill while checking in on Cha-young, who is busy with aerial yoga. She says that Babel had it coming for all the evil things they’ve done, and Jun-woo realizes she is the one “punishing” him.
Gasp, is that Vincenzo putting sugar in his espresso?? He tells Cha-young that meeting the boss of an enemy before a battle usually puts him at ease, but Han-seo is just a puppet. Cha-young declares they’ll need to destroy the puppet to draw out the real boss.
At Wusang, Choi suspects it’s Vincenzo that threatened her at the laundromat, but Attorney Han has already run a background check which came out clean. She thinks that’s a clear sign he’s not. To double-check, Attorney Han has already put in a request with his contacts from intelligence. Like Vincenzo earlier, she needs to see what her enemy looks like, so she visits Jipuragi with a gift.
Attorney Choi arrives with a plant while Mr. Nam does his best Vincenzo impression, complete with cheap plastic lighter and pocket square from an optometrist’s office. She’s completely unintimidated and declares he’s not Vincenzo. Down the hall, she sees the real Vincenzo with Cha-young. He hadn’t disguised his voice when he threatened her, so she introduces Vincenzo and tells her his tonsils are too swollen to talk. He smiles innocently as she sizes him up. She invites herself into their office for tea and tells Cha-young the key to Jipuragi’s longevity is to lie low and not act recklessly. Choi tries to get Vincenzo to talk, but she only gets a few squeaky syllables out of him, leaving her very confused.
The next day, Chairman Jang stops by Wusang and Attorney Han calls Jun-woo into his office. He promotes Jun-woo to partner, though he can’t understand why, and Jun-woo does a happy dance outside his (formerly Cha-young’s) new office.

Cha-young gives Vincenzo and Mr. Nam an overview of the allegations against Babel Chemicals. There are 42 victims in total, nine of whom are dead from leukemia, and a toxic chemical called BLSD is responsible. The victims are being represented by So Hyeon-u, a lawyer in cahoots with Wusang to settle all cases out of court. Not-so-coincidentally, the hospital where all the victims are treated also belongs to Babel. The head of oncology there, Dr. Gil, tampers with their medical records to suit the case. Meanwhile, the head of the Daechang Daily newspaper covers up Babel’s scandals with positive spin in exchange for more advertising revenue.
Vincenzo thinks Jipuragi should take the case, so they pay Attorney So a visit. They call him a traitor for recommending settlement to all his clients. He keeps up the righteous lawyer charade and insists his clients trust him too much for him to quit now. He accuses them of trying to steal the case for their own profit, but Cha-young wants the case because they intend to win. Vincenzo threatens to send him to a deserted place if he doesn’t resign by morning and notices something strange about the artwork in the office.
In the Babel boardroom, Chairman Jang is treating the executives to a very spicy bowl of jjampong. Everyone is to eat without water unless they are willing to offer up a plan. Apparently this is not the first time he’s used this trick, and Jun-woo calls with a more useful plan: Bring a Daechang Daily reporter to Babel Chemicals and announce the release of BLSD. Han-seo is concerned it isn’t ready and isn’t pleased with the idea, but Jun-woo knows the public only cares about appearances anyway.
Cha-young isn’t sure Attorney So will drop the clients and thinks she has a better shot winning over the plaintiffs themselves. She’s so confident she bets Vincenzo a finger flick, but it is against Vincenzo’s principles to hit a woman even for a game.
…because you need not one, but two hot and tenacious lawyers in well-tailored suits?
At the Babel victims’ office, she puts on her signature crying face and tells the clients they are like family. She wants them to fight and asserts the Babel Pharmaceuticals victims also could have won their case with a few more punches. Vincenzo looks concerned when they respond that they heard the Babel Pharmaceuticals attorney paid witnesses to perjure themselves. She tells them that was her father being slandered by the media and begs them to let her fight for them, but the settlement papers are all ready to be signed the next day. Vincenzo breaks the tension by fiddling with a megaphone, then tells the clients not to throw away a chance to win with them.
At least he kept his mouth closed?
At Babel Chemicals, Han-seo has set up a press conference to announce the release of BLSD. He poses with the researchers for a photo op, but the one at the end doesn’t look so good — it’s Monk Chaeshin’s friend, Lee U-yeong. As Han-seo reaches for a handshake, U-yeong coughs blood in his face before collapsing. Han-seo freaks out about the damage to his suit, while U-yeong’s colleagues refuse to call 911 until he signs some unspecified paperwork.
Larry and Miri are at Chef Baek’s having lunch, and they notice the Ant Company crew across the room. Suddenly CEO Park’s right hand man starts coughing, and he pulls a rusty nail out of his mouth. They threaten to post about it in social media, and Agent Ahn notes they’re playing dirty to drive them out of Geumga Plaza.
This provokes Park’s lackey and he flips a table just as Cha-young and Vincenzo walk in. CEO Park tries to leave but his men are raring for a good fight. Unfortunately, Vincenzo easily subdues them all, and Cha-young threatens to call the police and press charges if they don’t leave. Vincenzo makes CEO Park pay — literally — before they leave, and then hands Chef Baek a few hundred dollars to cover the broken plates.
Mr. Nam leaves the Jipuragi office early to go on a blind date, and Cha-young cheers him on. Vincenzo removes his jacket and watch and warms up for Cha-young’s finger flick. He hadn’t wanted to, but she did say it was okay, right? She braces herself and he torments her by taking his time. He takes a step closer but softens, giving her the lightest tap on the forehead. She insists he do it right, but he’s milling about the room like an awkward high school boy.
Jun-woo pops up from behind Cha-young with news of his promotion at Wusang, but he’s deflated by her lukewarm congratulations. She offers him a meal of spicy jjampong to make up for it. He doesn’t actually like it, but can’t pass up an opportunity to spend time with her. Vincenzo gets competitive when they tell him he can’t handle spicy food.
Jun-woo and Vincenzo try to one-up each other on their knowledge of Scoville units. At the restaurant, they distract themselves from the burning pain with work chatter, and Jun-woo airs his suspicions about Vincenzo. Cha-young pours more chili oil into their bowls and Vincenzo pours a bottle of ice water into his, lol.
Lee U-yeong is sent to the hospital after all — did he sign the paperwork? — and Monk Chaeshin rushes to his side. He tells the monk to go to the mountain and pray for him if he dies, so that he can go peacefully. Like with the other victims, Dr. Gil gives a leukemia diagnosis and points to overwork and failure to follow protocol as possible causes.
Outside the restaurant, Cha-young receives a call from Monk Chaeshin, and Jun-woo and Vincenzo soothe their scorched taste buds with milk. Jun-woo clearly won this round, but joke’s on him as Cha-young escorts a very unwell Vincenzo back up the street to Geumga Plaza.
At the temple, they tell Monk Chaeshin he was lied to at the hospital and update the tenants on the Babel Chemicals situation. The tenants feel frustrated hearing that other victims accepted settlements without putting up a fight. U-yeong is a beloved fixture in the plaza, as everyone fondly recalls how he helped and cared for each of them. The second monk, who has been fasting for a few days, finally rises. He is eager to help.
Attorney So heads to the Babel victims’ office in the morning but is met by a sign on the door that says he’s no longer welcome. Inside, the monks are praying for victory with the clients, who have decided to hire Jipuragi, after all. The monks call Attorney So evil and drive him out of the room, where Vincenzo and Cha-young are waiting to rub it in.
Turns out Cha-young had drinks with a junior lawyer from Wusang who used to bribe plaintiffs’ lawyers into settling their cases. She’d recorded the conversation and played it for his now ex-clients. Attorney So doesn’t think they can prove he accepted a cash bribe, but Vincenzo hints that they found his stockpile of cash very easily. It was in a safe hidden behind the painting in So’s office, and the combination was easy enough to decipher because So never wiped down his keypad. But… what did Cha-young and Vincenzo do with money? He rushes to his office safe and finds receipts for donations totaling $600k. Womp womp, haha.
Next, Cha-young and Vincenzo make an unwelcome surprise visit to Wusang to announce that they’ve taken the plaintiffs’ case. Attorney Han can’t believe she’d drop a bomb like this, but Vincenzo — fiddling with the scales of justice on the desk — retorts they need to make a big bang to be noticed. Attorney Choi recognizes his voice from the laundromat call. Han warns Vincenzo not to be reckless because he’s in Korea now, but Vincenzo advises them not to be reckless just because they don’t know him.
Just for kicks, Choi wants to know what kind of settlement they want. Vincenzo and Cha-young want Babel to issue a formal apology, properly compensate the victims, and stop the production of BLSD. Wusang thinks the demands are ridiculous. Like the time at the laundromat, Vincenzo reminds Attorney Choi that freedom has a price, and he and Cha-young leave.
Han is impressed that the man he just met caused so much trouble for Babel, and declares he wants him, lol. Attorney Choi says she will take all the cases related to Babel going forward. At the elevator, Jun-woo pleads with Vincenzo to stop Cha-young from pursuing the lawsuit, but Vincenzo has no such intentions. They leave, and Jun-woo wonders whether he should stop taking it easy on Cha-young.
On the Geumga Plaza rooftop, Vincenzo asks Cha-young if she can win. She thinks every case has a 50% chance of being won, but Vincenzo sets their odds at 10% depending on the lawyer’s skill, greed, and cunning. Sure, Cha-young is skilled and greedy, but Attorney Choi is ruthless enough to harm others. Vincenzo reasons that if they can’t win the first trial, they’ll just have to make it so that no one can win or lose. Cha-young is reluctant to take his advice, but he reassures her that he only means to complement her experience as an attorney with his experience as a villain. She agrees as long as he also takes her advice when her turn comes.
Speaking of villainy, she wonders how Attorney So is doing. He’s been left in a sleeping bag on a patch of beach within view of his apartment with a survival kit: seeds, a camping stove, a makeshift fishing pole with a gummy worm for bait, and a paper boat adorned with Korean and Italian flags. His attempts to call out to his wife are futile while, at home, she reports him missing.
At Jipuragi, our trio brainstorms a strategy for the first trial. They liken the courtroom to a gambling hall, and their goal is to nullify the game and make the winning player leave by metaphorically flipping the table. Cha-young thinks it’s too late to invalidate the trial, but Vincenzo plans to do it during.
There’s a saying that only impatient people enjoy eating raw food so, of course, Attorney Choi is chowing down on sushi again as the Wusang team preps for the trial.
In the morning, Vincenzo confirms something with Mr. Cho and Cha-young asks what his plans are after the case is over. He wants to take care of the issue with the plaza, then leave — he has no attachment to Korea, anyway. Cha-young wonders whether he wouldn’t want to see all of Babel crumble first, but he thinks winning this case will suffice. Mr. Tak walks in and offers to press the team’s clothes for the trial.
Non-Italian food with a mom’s touch
Chef Baek insists they have breakfast at the restaurant, where his own mom has prepared a traditional Korean meal. He and Agent Ahn watch anxiously as Vincenzo takes a bite of rolled egg. Vincenzo looks pleased as he stuffs the whole piece in his mouth and gives them a thumbs up, to their delight. Mr. Tak also earns thumbs ups for his perfect job on their suits.
In the parking lot, Cha-young realizes she has forgotten her car keys at home, but Vincenzo says they should take a sleek ride to the battlefield. Outside the court, reporters descend on Attorney Choi. When asked for a statement, she accuses the plaintiffs of using their position of being weak to portray Babel as evil. A small white Chevy pulls up, but the driver is unrelated to the case: a red herring. Just then, a blue Lamborghini pulls around the corner. The wing doors fly up and Cha-young and Vincenzo emerge.

So much for the plaintiffs playing up their weakness.
Cha-young is so adorably hot striking model poses for the photographers that Jun-woo can’t help but smile. The reporters want a statement and Vincenzo introduces himself as an advisor to Jipuragi before quoting the same Italian proverb Yu-chan cited before he died: The devil drives the devil out. Across the lawn from the courthouse, the Geumga Plaza tenants are staging a performance art piece surrounded by anti-Babel slogans. The Jipuragi duo smile and give them a thumbs up, as well.
The two teams face-off in front of the courthouse and, at least in the serving looks portion of our trial, Cha-young and Vincenzo are the clear winners.

I was worried that this episode would fall flat after that last action-packed one, so this far exceeded my expectations. Fireworks are fun to watch, but so is deception. Jun-woo’s got everyone fleeced with his dweeby goofball act, and it was delightful watching Attorney Choi’s efforts stalled as she struggled to figure Vincenzo out. I think she knows she’s met her match.
I’m especially glad to see the Geumga Plaza tenants getting some more character development, because I was starting to wonder what purpose Larry, Miri, and pawn shop couple — see, I can’t even remember their names — would serve. The performance art piece was an unexpected bit of fun from them. And the writers did a great job making me care about U-yeong fairly quickly as a friend of theirs, so I do feel invested in the outcome of the trial, and not just because I want Jipuragi to win.
On the down side, this also means that this writing team was perfectly capable of crafting meatier characters for the tenants but, for whatever reason, just didn’t. I can overlook that because of how good our main players are, and because it’s still relatively early in the drama, but hopefully they’ll be put to good use going forward.
Seeing that Babel has so many strategically placed partners-in-literal-crime makes me wonder whether Wusang isn’t another possible acquisition for this cartel — I mean, conglomerate. They were always complicit in Babel’s actions, but now that Jun-woo is a partner, he may as well own them. How much longer is he going to keep up the doofy intern charade (Side note: I’m so bummed out my evil/good twin theory didn’t pan out)? And with former prosecutor-turned-rookie-lawyer Choi in his hands, would he buy her the Namdongbu Prosecutor’s Office, too? Babel seems poised to be invincible, so I wonder what tricks Jipuragi have up their sleeve to take them down.
It was endearing to watch Jun-woo and Vincenzo show off over jjampong, but does anyone else feel a little worried for Cha-young? We caught a glimpse of Jun-woo’s violent temper early in the episode, and he definitely seems like a man who gets what he wants. And while her rapport with Vincenzo is improving by the day, and she’s starting to care more about what he does or wants, she still has no idea who he really is. Neither do we, really, other than that he’s a pretty crafty badass who set his enemy’s vineyard on fire. This Babel battle (say that three times fast) is keeping everyone busy so far, but when the dust settles, Cha-young is going to need someone reliable to lean on as she processes all the changes that are happening in her life… and I’m not sure either of these dudes are it.
I’ve been waiting for Vincenzo’s past to catch up with him since the social media party he threw at the end of episode two but so far, no signs of impending conflict on that front. Both Agent Ahn and Mr. Cho were notably absent this episode — what are their characters up to behind the scenes? Agent Ahn can’t possibly be fooling around with pizza dough all day; he still has a job, right? And where on earth did Mr. Cho score a Lamborghini? Conveniently, he seems to have all the hookups Vincenzo needs, and we still know so little about him other than his vaguely sticky situation in Italy. This drama is doing a great job managing all of its moving parts so far, so I hope this loose thread gets dealt with sooner rather than later.
