The filming begins and No Eul (Bae Suzy) asks Shin Joon Young (Kim Woo Bin) if he only had a year to live, what’s the first thing that he would want to do? Joon Young says “let’s say only have three months to live. I would live recklessly. I would get revenge on those that look down on me. I would get rid of everyone that I don’t like.” No Eul tells him that doesn’t go with the theme of the film which is to be uplifting to teens. Joon Young says “I would go to clubs and seduce women. I’d sleep with a different woman every night.” No Eul asks if this project is a joke to him. Joon Young says “I’m not joking. I’m being honest. I could do anything if I were going to die soon…Do you want to go out with me No Eul? Let’s pretend I’ll be dead in three months, let’s have a passionate romance for those three months.” She stares at him, he stares at her. Joon Young says “let’s have a dangerous passionate romance for three months.” She stares at him, he stares at her. The director interrupts saying this was only a test filming day. He assumes that Joon Young is joking. Joon Young tells him he’s not joking. Joon Young asks No Eul, will she date him? Trying to play this as a joke No Eul simpers that she’d like to go out with him, she’s thrilled he asked her out. The crew tells her to stop. Instead No Eul asks should they start going out today? Joon Young laughs and shakes his head. What does that mean?
Choi Ji Tae (Lim Ju Hwan) finds No Eul upset and believing that she’ll get fired from the documentary. No Eul says she’s in trouble because she took something Joon Young said seriously as a joke. Ji Tae tells or maybe it’s all for the best. Maybe you should stop filming the documentary. No Eul’s grateful that Ji Tae cares for her and her brother. No Eul suggests that he hire her for his wife. Ji Tae stares at her in agony because that’s exactly what he’d like to do, but he can’t.
Joon Young learns that she’ll be replaced as producer soon. Joon Young’s manager tells him he put No Eul in a terrible situation at the shoot. Joon Young tells his manager to call the CEO and demand that No Eul be rehired otherwise he won’t continue with the project.
Ji Tae starts drinking and No Eul says she’ll take back the proposal if it is driving him to drink. She jokes with him but Ji Tae will not respond. Frustrated, she gets up and leaves. No Eul leaves her phone at the table. Outside the eatery No Eul says to herself her first day filming and her first proposal all ended up as a disaster. No Eul shakes her head and walks away. Ji Tae tells the proprietress, ignoring her overtures, that he doesn’t deserve No Eul. That’s why he can accept her proposal. He realizes No Eul left her phone and heads out after her. He can’t find No Eul. Her phone goes off and Ji Tae answers it. Joon Young is surprised when a man answers No Eul’s phone. Joon Young asks who he speaking to. Ji Tae asks who he speaking to. Joon Young is not thrilled to learn what No Eul calls him in her contact list. Ji Tae boldly tells him if this is Joon Young don’t bother calling back because you got her fired. Joon Young doesn’t take that kindly and tells him to back off. Joon Young asks if this is her husband. No Eul realizes she left her phone and returns to the eatery. Ji Tae won’t answer if he is her husband. No Eul grabs the phone out of Ji Tae’s hand. She answers the phone and an irritated Joon Young hangs up. No Eul is puzzled why Joon Young called. Ji Tae calls her, grabs her phone, and sees that he is “husband” in her contact list. Ji Tae says one day she’ll meet the right man for her. No Eul tells him he should be man enough to reject her out right instead of pretending to be a nice guy. No Eul tells him she never wants to see him again. No Eul strides away. Ji Tae isn’t happy the conversation ended like that.
No Eul wonders why Joon Young called her. No Eul starts to send Joon Young a text apologizing for her behavior but can’t bring herself to hit send. No Eul spots Joon Young’s car and approaches. He rolls down the window and makes a comment so that she knows he knows what her contact name is for him. No Eul’s a bit miffed that he got her address from the production team. Joon Young asks about her husband. He starts to roll up the window but No Eul grabs it and says “who would want to marry me? I don’t have a husband, I don’t have kids, I don’t have a place to live, money or pride. Thanks to you this happy state I’m in will continue because you got me fired”. Joon Young smiles. No Eul doesn’t understand what about this is funny and takes offense. No Eul calls herself crazy for sharing and walks away. No Eul receives a phone call saying that she is not being replaced as the PD for the project. No Eul learns it’s because Joon Young vouched for her. No Eul walks back to his car, but he drives away.
It’s the next day and Joon Young wakes up after sleeping on the floor in front of his bed. We are treated to another shirtless shot (thank you PD). Joon Young gets ready to leave.
No Eul is concerned that her brother is not eating enough. He takes her sisterly concern in stride. He warns her that Joon Young’s fans are not to be trifled with. He warns her that there trying to dig up dirt on her and won’t be afraid to use it. He receives a text from Ha Roo asking to meet so he can tell her about PD No Eul. He shows the text to his sister. Ha Roo receives a text wanting to know what she will do with the information about PD No Eul. We see that text was actually sent by in No Eul not her brother. He grabs the phone away from his sister. Ha Roo calls and No Eul holds out her hand for the phone but he rejects the call and puts the phone in his pocket. Ha Roo is incensed that he won’t pick up her phone call. No Eul follows her brother out of the house demanding to know Ha Roo’s phone number. He says she’s just a girl that’s obsessed with Joon Young because she’s a fan. He tells her not to fall in love with Joon Young. No Eul is stunned that he would even suggest that. Her brother wisely says you’ll be spending a lot of time with him, and you might start to like him. No Eul tells him that would never happen. The brother says they live in different worlds. He says she’ll get hurt if she falls for Joon Young. Her brother says he’d like it if No Eul liked Ji Tae because he is a nice guy and suits her. He heads off to school, and gives his sister an affectionate wave.
Ji Tae remembers her proposal from last night. It makes them smile. He tells himself to snap out of it.
Ji Tae and his father, Choi Hyun Joon, play a game until his sister, Choi Ha Roo, comes home. She tells her father that Joon Young is having a concert tonight and she’d like him to attend with her. Her father is not interested in attending Joon Young’s concert. Ha Roo presses that it could improve his popularity. Ji Tae, irritated by all this Joon Young talk, tells his sister to go study and stop bothering father. Ha Roo is surprised by his harsh tone. Ji Tae tells her she should stop spending so much time at the Joon Young fan club. That’s going too far and Ha Roo tells him Joon Young is her life and Ji Tae needs to back off. Father is not happy at the tone Ha Roo uses with her brother. She correctly points out Ji Tae’s tone to her wasn’t correct either. She stalks away. Ji Tae apologizes for his flash of anger. His father muses that Ji Tae never gets mad, why not? His father laughs, glad to see his son get mad about something. His father says he should buy Joon Young a meal.
Joon Young complains that his mother, Shin Young Ok (Jin Kyung), changed the passcode to her house. He complains she didn’t call him back. Her mother says she’s busy. He invites her to his concert. She tears up the tickets and drops the shredded pieces at his feet. Ouch, that is harsh! He tries to stop her from leaving in grabs her arm. She pulls away and demands to know why he’s calling her mother. She asks since when have you treated me like your mother? She angrily says you dropped out of school and became a celebrity without even asking me! Joon Young asks what’s wrong with being a celebrity? His mother scoffs that all his money doesn’t matter, he promised to become a prosecutor and protect the everyday person. She asks if he’s ashamed that he broke his promise. Joon Young says a guy like him should be a prosecutor. He tells his mother that he left tickets for her at the door and turns to leave. She calls after him “I’ll never attend your concert”. He smiles saying to himself his mom sure is harsh. I don’t think I’d be so good-natured if my mother treated me like that.
No Eul attends the concert and films the excitement before the concert. Ji Tae watches her, upset that she’s working the project.
Before the concert Ha Roo complains about her brother’s harsh treatment. She’s stunned when her father shows up. He’s even wearing the Joon Young shirt that Ha Roo gave him, cute! Ha Roo makes the point that her session with Joon Young keeps her out of trouble. Her friend takes the self the of the three of them.
The concert begins. No Eul films the concert. Joon Young sings. We see his mother did not attend the concert. Little does he know his father is at his concert. Ji Tae watches his brother sing jealous to see him singing to No Eul. She remembers her brother’s warning not to fall for Joon Young. But she can’t help it, the song affects her. Father leaves the concert and reminisces about a young Joon Young approaching him about becoming a prosecutor. He looks at the poster of Joon Young and says I guess you decided not to be a prosecutor. His wife gets the news that her husband attended Joon Young’s concert. It upsets her.
Joon Young’s uncle gives his sister (Joon Young’s mother) some money. He tells his sister that Joon Young didn’t quit law school to help his child. He says Joon Young quit law school first, for reasons unknown. He says after his child got in trouble then Joon Young used to signing bonus to help. Joon Young’s mother stares at her brother as he strides away.
At a break during the concert everyone fawns over Joon Young in his dressing room. No Eul shows up to film his break. She asks what are his thoughts about the concert. He asks who was the man? She asks what man? He says the man that picked up your phone last night. He asks if that man is her boyfriend. No Eul ignores his questions and tells him that he has an international fan base at the concert tonight. Joon Young asks if the man is her boyfriend. Irked and trying to get him off the subject No Eul asks what he normally eats on a day gives a concert. But Joon Young won’t be deterred. He asked how long she’s been dating that man. No Eul tries again and asks what he does when concerts are over. Joon Young asks what does the guy look like? Fed up No Eul yells he’s not my boyfriend! Joon Young smiles and says good job before ending his break and returning to the concert.
Joon Young sings and looks at No Eul during the song which Ji Tae notices. The stage goes dark. A sign is illuminated saying “the person that I love is here today”. The crowd goes wild, each girl sure that she is the one he loves. Another line appears on the sign “that’s why I’m trying to muster my courage to tell you today.” The fans get even more excited. The curtain drops and behind Joon Young is an orchestra for the big finale of the song. No Eul continues to film. Joon Young walks over to where she’s filming and pulls No Eul onto the stage. The stage lifts. He stares at her. She stares at him. He finishes the song which says “I like you. I love you.” He hands her a stuffed bear. No Eul remembers when he gave her a stuffed bear in high school when he pretended to be her boyfriend. He finishes the rest of the song staring into her eyes and she does the same. Ji Tae leaves, unhappy with what he’s seen. Don’t worry he’s not alone, Ha Roo (and I’m sure many other fans) is not happy that the chosen woman is not her. But when her friend shows her a picture of Joon Young giving No Eul the stuffed bear in high school, she’s stunned. In fact, everyone is surprised that an article with the picture is posted as Joon Young sings to No Eul. His managers aren’t happy. But Joon Young isn’t happy either, he was rejected. His manager demands to know what the article is about. Joon Young looks surprised at the posted article. The article discloses No Eul’s private information. The backlash begins. Comments are posted saying that No Eul stole Joon Young’s girlfriend in high school, that she’s a gold digger, etc. Joon Young wants to know who posted the article. He’s not happy at the vicious comments. His people tell him the comments aren’t the problem, No Eul’s private information becoming public knowledge endangers her.
After the concert, Ha Roo is in the bathroom washing up as No Eul enters to do the same. After she splashes cold water on her face she looks up to see many girls staring daggers at her. She looks at Ha Roo who is distinctly displeased. No Eul tries to smile. Ha Roo calls her a witch. Ha Roo throws water in her face. No Eul yells at Ha Roo’s retreating back. Then No Eul sees a gaggle of unhappy Joon Young fans staring at her. No Eul tries to make light of Joon Young taking her onstage and singing to her. No Eul tells them it was fake.
As No Eul leaves the bathroom a camera crew is waiting for her. No Eul asks what they’re doing and demands that they stop recording her. The reporter congratulates her for receiving Joon Young’s special attention. She asks if it’s true that they dated in high school. No Eul demands to know who saying that. The reporter tells her the Internet is full of stories about her and Joon Young. She holds up her phone with such a story. No Eul is stunned. The camera records her reaction. Ji Tae intervenes and puts his hand over the camera and tells them to stop recording and start checking their facts. He pulls No Eul away from the camera crew who take off after them. As they exit the concert hall Joon Young is waiting for her. He takes in the scene of Ji Tae holding her arm. The two men stare at each other. Joon Young looks at her. The camera crew rushes up to record the moment. Joon Young walks up to Ji Tae and asks if he’s her husband. Joon Young says he doesn’t care about things like that. He reaches for her. Ji Tae blocks his access to No Eul. Ji Tae asks Joon Young if he’s okay with their interaction being recorded. He says everyone is going to think this is real. Joon Young looks at the camera crew are recording this (though they can only see Ji Tae’s and No Eul’s backs (and Joon Young’s face)). Joon Young smiles and says it doesn’t matter. He asks Ji Tae if he can handle the publicity. He says the reporters will dig up dirt on him. A fan recognizes Joon Young, calls his name, and others rush to surround them. Everyone seems to have a camera and the flashes light up the area. Joon Young pulls down the bill of his baseball cap, releases No Eul’s arm, and covers his face. Joon Young sees the opportunity and grabs No Eul’s hand and pulls her away. The cameras flash and record their getaway.
My Thoughts
Shin Joon Young (Kim Woo Bin) made a big gesture for No Eul. Declaring your affections at a concert, when the girl has no idea that you like her, and does not know if she is willing to take the risk to be with you, is a bonehead move. But Joon Young reaped the benefits when he and Ji Tae faced off over No Eul. Joon Young astutely understood that he could weather the publicity but maybe Ji Tae could not. He was right. Ji Tae released No Eul. Joon Young took full advantage by pulling No Eul away. I must say that whole scene felt like it was in slow-mo.
No Eul (Bae Suzy) proposed to Ji Tae but he rejected her proposal. I was surprised that she did propose to Ji Tae. I’ve never seen anything remotely romantic between the two of them. I’m guessing this was a proposal of convenience “a.k.a. a marriage of convenience”. She’s got to have an inkling that Joon Young is a decent guy. I mean he got her job back when she was unfairly fired for his ridiculous suggestion they date for three months (it was ridiculous that he proposed dating during filming). Her brother gave her two bits of good advice: watch out for Joon Young’s fans and don’t fall for Joon Young. But when she was at the concert and Joon Young was obviously singing to her, No Eul felt a pull towards him that she could not deny.
Choi Ji Tae (Lim Ju Hwan) lapsed into jealousy. I was a little disappointed to see how quickly Ji Tae became the jealous half-brother. He’s the one that had the opportunity to say yes to No Eul, but he declined. Then he spent the rest of the episode working and watching Joon Young put the moves on No Eul. I guess it doesn’t matter to him that he created the opportunity for Joon Young, he just can’t stand to watch Joon Young take advantage of it. I did think the interchange between Ji Tae and his father when they were playing the game together was cute. In fact, when Ji Tae’s/Ha Roo’s/Joon Young’s father showed up at the concert, that was pretty cool.
Jin Kyung (Shin Young Ok) is mad because Joon Young didn’t become a prosecutor. She’s upset that Joon Young didn’t keep his promise to become a prosecutor to help the everyday person be able to obtain justice. Frankly, completely rejecting your son because he didn’t keep a promise he made when he was in his youth, seems excessive. I can’t believe how cheerful and persistent Joon Young is in his interactions with his surly mother. When her brother told her that Joon Young stop becoming a prosecutor before he helped his cousin, that seemed like new information to her. Will it change anything?

AUGHHHHH THE FEELS. Okay technically this show still doesn’t break many K-drama barriers, but OMG WHYYYY. WHY DRAMA GODS WHYYYYY?
So Joon Young asks No Eul to go out with him, and cue a tense silence as No Eul tries to read what’s going on in his head. Joon Young actually breaks into a wide grin, but it’s hard to tell on her end if he’s being genuine. Rather than letting him toy with her, No Eul breaks into a wide smile and says of course she’d like to be his girlfriend. Who wouldn’t!? She can announce this everywhere on social media, right? But Joon Young’s smile fades – he knows that she’s just teasing.
After the shoot, No Eul wallows in misery in her favorite restaurant, knowing that she’s been fired from the documentary. (Of course Joon Young won’t have that and makes his CEO rehire her.) She hates that Joon young can get away with saying crazy things like asking her out on a date and go unpunished, but when she tries to play his game she gets fired. Ji Tae joins her, and though he goes by another name with her (Hyun Woo) I’m still going to call him Ji Tae. He’s pretty happy to hear that she’s been fired and offers to get her another job. No Eul scoffs — he doesn’t even have a job himself, what more get her a job! Instead… What if he gets a job and then hires her… as his wife?
Ji Tae is taken aback. Not that he’d be opposed to it, but he doesn’t know how to react to hearing his dreams come true. Unfortunately No Eul takes his silence badly and she feels that he doesn’t like her, but just doesn’t know how to tell her. Feeling rejected, she heads out, and is disappointed that he doesn’t even come after her.
The restaurant manager knows better though, seeing Ji Tae drink a couple of shots by himself. He liiiiiiiiikes her. But he doesn’t feel worthy for her. Gah – stop being so noble Ji Tae! He then realizes that No Eul’s left her phone and goes outside to look for her.
Just then the phone rings, and Ji Tae answers. It’s Joon Young, and he starts asking who picked up No Eul’s phone. “Who are you?” Ji Tae asks back. “It’s normally polite to introduce yourself first, then ask who picked up.” Joon Young says, “You probably saw my name on the phone when I called.”
“It just says ‘Asshole’,” Ji Tae replies. HAHAHA.
But Ji Tae figures that it might be Joon Young on the other line and warns him to never call No Eul again, especially since they won’t be working together anymore. That’s when Joon Young realizes he’s talking to “Hubby.” No Eul returns just in time to pick up the phone from Ji Tae’s hands, but Joon Young has already hung up, too angry.
Ji Tae tries calling her phone and sees that she’s called him “nampyeon”, which could mean “husband.” He grins, really flattered, but No Eul says it’s because he always sides with the other side when she gets into fights. Hence “nam” (other) “pyeon” (side). Hee.
No Eul heads home and considers texting Joon Young back. In her head she wants to curse him out, but she ends up typing out an apology and begging for forgiveness. In the end she doesn’t bother with the text. There are other places that will hire her! And then she notices Joon Young’s car. Could it be…?
She’s startled by his appearance, and he’s wondering why she’s living with Nari instead of her “husband.” He keeps peppering her with questions to annoy her, asking about her marital status and if she has kids. She gets annoyed and says she’s obviously not married or a mother, but rather a poor girl who’s getting dragged around by a psycho like him! And then, No Eul then gets a call from the production team. She’s been rehired! Mainly because Joon Young said he won’t shoot a single scene without her. Before she can turn to him for confirmation, he drives away. So slick.
The following morning, we watch Joon Young through the many CCTV cameras in his house as he gets up (sleeping on the floor rather than the bed), washes up (abs!), feeds his dog, and then changes to head out for the day (looking nice with the shades). It’s a big day – the day of his concert! As for No Eul, she lovingly feeds No Jik a leafy wrap with meat. She coddles her baby brother, even though he’s perfectly old enough to take care of himself, and suggests dropping everything and following him around. And surprisingly, he agrees!
No Eul can’t believe her brother actually took her bait, but it’s because he has a good reason: if she continues working on Shin Joon Young’s documentary she will get eaten alive by his fan base. Case in point: Haru, or the girl that he’s nicknamed “Jerk of All Jerks” on his phone. She’s threatening to sue him if he tricked her, and No Eul answers her text: “What are you going to do with information regarding PD No Eul? Do your parents know you’re going around doing this kind of thing?” Yeah! Tsk tsk Haru!
Instead of preparing for her college exams (which she’s redoing after failing already), Haru is busy preparing fan-made goods for Joon Young’s upcoming concert. So yeah, she really isn’t doing much with her life. She’s pretty pissed with No Eul’s response too (though she’s attributing it to No Jik); who knows what crazy thing she’ll do next.
No Jik is serious though – he doesn’t want his sister near Joon Young. He knows enough what crazy fan girls could do, and doesn’t want her sister falling for Joon Young again while working on the documentary. He knows his sister too well. No Jik reminds her that they live in different worlds, and she’ll definitely get hurt if they ever get together.
At Ji Tae’s home, we find him washing up and being quite giddy because he’s considered No Eul’s “Hubby” of sorts. Just then his father calls him out Ji Tae goes home quite giddy, feeling warm that he’s considered No Eul’s “hubby” of sorts. His father then calls him out for a moment, which kills his mood. But it turns out the dad just wants a little friendly competition. If Choi Hyun Joon can knock off the two black Go stones from the board with his white one, he won’t have to give Ji Tae his prized autographed baseball.
He aims, he shoots… he misses! It’s actually really sweet to watch Hyun Joon whine and refuse to give his son the baseball. It makes him a lovable father, when all I really want to do is hate him.
Haru returns home, tired from leaving early in the morning to prepare gifts for Joon Young’s concert, and she begs her father to go to the concert with her. It would do wonders for his image! But Ji Tae snaps at her, telling her to study or do something more worthwhile than fawn over a celebrity. Haru and Hyun Joon are actually taken aback by Ji Tae’s harshness, even though Haru really needs to listen to those words. I mean, that girl just lives for Joon Young. Haru runs off, thinking her brother is acting weird all of a sudden. Hyun Joon actually finds himself liking Joon Young more; this celebrity managed to make Ji Tae get angry, and Ji Tae never gets angry. The father is actually relieved his son has some emotions.
Joon Young visits his mother outside her building to give her tickets to his concert. It’s the last time she could ever see him on stage. Young Ok shortly replies that she’s glad to hear of it, but rips his tickets to shreds. She really doesn’t approve of him being a celebrity, no matter what he says. She hates that he chose a different career path without talking to her about it. She hates that he’s so rich now, when he swore to be a prosecutor and protect people who were downtrodden and poor like they were. She really won’t see his concert, even if he dies. Way harsh, mom.
No Eul heads over to the concert stadium with her camera and takes note of all his international fans that have come to watch him. She’s quite amazed at his appeal and smiles almost proudly at how well he’s done for himself. One person isn’t too happy though, and that’s Haru. And it’s all because her father won’t show up to the concert with her. Is she ten, or what?
Suddenly a man wrapped up in a coat and scarf sits down next to Haru – it’s Hyun Joon! He kept his promise and even wore a sweater with Joon Young’s face on it! What a great dad. He even humors her and Jung Ja with a photo op, but then as soon as the concert really gets going, he makes his exit. He has done enough of his job supporting his daughter.
It also turns out that Hyun Joon does remember Joon Young as the bright potential law student. He just doesn’t act like he knows the kid very well. Hyun Joon good-naturedly though salutes Joon Young’s banner for being successful in a different career path. One person isn’t too pleased that he went to the concert though. (There’s always someone displeased!) And that is surprisingly his wife Eun Soo. When she learns that Hyun Joon went to Joon Young’s concert (even though it was for Haru), she swipes a vase off the coffee table. I guess… she knows?
No Eul is front and center by the stage, filming the entire concert for the documentary. Joon Young sings a love song and looks right at her, so she can’t help but feel like he’s singing to her, about her. She takes a break for a sip of water to slow her fluttering heart, and when she resumes her duties Joon Young visibly smiles onstage. Aw.
Young Ok is still working at the restaurant, refusing to go to the concert. But Jung Sik comes up to her and hands her the money that Gook Young owed. He had come up with enough money to pay her back some time ago, but when he told Gook Young to pay Joon Young back, his stupid son decided to spend it all instead. So Jung Sik took a bit longer this time, getting his friend to pay him back money too and getting his house’s safety deposit back. He wants the slate clean so that Young Ok will stop blaming his family for Joon Young’s career path. But he also reminds her the order of events: Joon Young quit school first because of something. Gook Young caused some trouble after that. Then Joon Young decided to become a celebrity and paid back that debt for Gook Young.
So really, Young Ok can’t blame anyone else for Joon Young’s choice in leaving law school.
After the first song, No Eul joins Joon Young and his entourage backstage as he gets ready for his next performance. She asks him a few questions about how he feels regarding his last concert, and if he has anything to say to his fans. Joon Young doesn’t. All he wants to know is if the guy who picked up the phone last night was her boyfriend. He’s clearly being very belligerent on camera, so No Eul finally answers that Ji Tae is not her boyfriend because Joon Young won’t answer any other question. That makes Joon Young really happy.
He sings his second song, and the screen behind him reads the following: “The person I love is here today. That’s why I’m trying to muster my courage to tell you today.” Haru freaks out, thinking that it’s her. Ji Tae stands with the audience, having a good view of the stage and No Eul filming Joon Young. He can’t help himself but show up to see what could happen between Joon Young and No Eul.
Finally in the middle of the song, Joon Young picks up a huge white teddy bear and gets off stage. He goes right up to No Eul, pulls off the camera from her hands, and takes her up onstage. The platform rises up, and he sings to her, giving her the bear. It reminds her of the day he showed up in front of her school and gave her that same bear in front of everyone. The audience is in shock, for how could be in love with someone not so glamorous? Haru is obviously angry, and what’s worse is an article comes out that identifies No Eul and has all of her personal information online already. Plus there’s a picture with the article from Joon Young and No Eul’s high school days.
No Eul never accepts the bear. In fact, she rejects him in front of everyone, which makes her the target of other concert goers’ ire. She tries to pretend that it was all for show, and he was kidding anyways, but not a single girl is happy with her. Meanwhile Joon Young is kinda depressed in his dressing room because his grand gesture failed. When he hears about the article on No Eul, and how so many commenters are saying bad things about her, he does something new: he wants screenshots of all the comments and to have all those slanderers reported to the police. After avoiding doing that for so long because of his mother, he doesn’t care anymore. Mean comments about himself are one thing, but mean comments about No Eul are unacceptable.
No Eul is greeted outside of the bathroom by a reporter, who wants a scoop on her relationship with Joon Young. The reporter also breaks the news to No Eul about the article on her, much to her chagrin. Thankfully Ji Tae arrives to save the day, dressed completely in black. He blocks the camera, saying that the reporters don’t have a right to bother No Eul like this, and then grabs her hand to lead her away.
No Eul is quite thankful, and possibly impressed by Ji Tae’s less-shabby appearance. But it’s short-lived. When they reach the outside of the stadium, Joon Young is standing out there, completely covered up so no one can recognize him. Joon Young smiles and tries to grab her hand; he doesn’t care if Ji Tae is her “husband,” because he knows it’s not for real and he wants No Eul for himself. But Ji Tae warns him that the reporter and her cameraman are still behind them, filming. Does he really want to do this right now?
Joon Young doesn’t care. Everyone knows him already, so it doesn’t matter what he does. But Ji Tae’s secrets can be dug up real quick if anyone catches him on camera. Oooh, a threat. Does Joon Young know who Ji Tae really is?!
Just then a swarm of reporters and fans surround them, taking pictures frantically. It’s the moment! The moment between the first and second male leads! Who will win!?
And Ji Tae slowly lets go of No Eul’s hand, and shields his face with the brim of his cap. He really can’t let anyone know who he is, for if his identity gets out, No Eul will also view him as a liar. So Joon Young takes the opportunity to grab No Eul’s hand and lead her away from the throng.
Some Thoughts
I’m really impressed that for a slow moving episode, we get such nice character and relationship development. We only progress about a day in the show, or maybe a little more (but the timeline isn’t clear), but we see how No Jik loves his sister, how Hyun Joon is an awesome dad, and how Ji Tae really treasures his relationship with No Eul. I love it. And I know these moments will bring me great pain in the future.
I am REALLY hurt by Ji Tae’s decision. Those were the FEELS that I was crying out loud before. I have major second male lead syndrome right now, and I wish Ji Tae could have been stronger for No Eul. I wish he could have boldly protected her. Neither man has a good claim for No Eul as they’ve hurt her in their own ways and protected the one man they shouldn’t have. If anything, No Eul doesn’t deserve either of them. But oh how I wished she could have been with Ji Tae, who seemed to be more understanding of her situation than Joon Young. How I wish Ji Tae wouldn’t let Joon Young take her hand. (We very nearly got a three-way wrist grab a la Heirs here, but thankfully it didn’t happen.)
But I guess if we had to think from No Eul’s perspective, she would have been happier with Joon Young, with whom she can debate with, than with Ji Tae, whom she would tread carefully around because she realizes he’s not really the person he made himself out to be.
AUGH! This show. WHY!? Let me take my frustration out on that stupid person who leaked No Eul’s identity to the press then.

When Joon Young’s on a roll, he’s on a roll. From a public confession to stepping up his game, he knows he doesn’t have much time left and is willing to throw caution to the wind. Ji Tae probably needs a ticking clock to act as well, but I still doubt if he would be able to act should he have that chance. Young Ok’s still stewing in bitterness and pissing me the fuck off and Ji Tae makes a devastating choice.
The Episode in 10 Moments:
Eul proposes to Ji Tae
After Joon Young makes his offer that they should date like there’s no tomorrow, CEO Namgoong tries to salvage the situation by stating that Joon Young is joking. Joon Young cuts him off as he insists that he wasn’t joking and poses his question again to Eul. Eul, who’s been watching at him all along, suddenly switches and agrees to date him. Everyone tries to caution her, but she’s all smiles as she asks if Joon Young would make the announcement publicly, or if she’s allowed to put it up on her social media account. The words have Joon Young smiling, and the next thing we see, Eul’s back to her face plant on a bowl of water mode (hahaha. She’s literarily trying to drown herself in a small bowl of water. Good luck with that sweetie). She’s like this when Ji Tae shows up and she finally lifts her head to tell him that she thinks she might get fired from the documentary crew because Joon Young had said something serious and she’d taken him seriously and had thus reacted in a serious way. She calls herself stupid but Ji Tae’s relieved because it means she can go back to her exploratory documentaries rather than doing a documentary on Joon Young (dude, shut the fuck up. Your ass is just jealous at this point). He offers to help Eul look around for a job and when Eul points out that he doesn’t have the money to pull that off, he recovers by offering to get a job himself. Eul sighs that she will marry him when he gets employed. Ji Tae’s stunned so Eul repeats her question, asking him if he would be willing to give her a job as his wife.
2. Joon Young defends Eul’s job and Eul gets dumped
Kook Young comes to meet Joon Young to inform him that the decision’s been made and CEO Namgoong has put his foot down and insisted on a new PD. Trying to get Joon Young to feel guilty, Kook Young continues that even the production company has decided that they would be firing Eul as well, and at the words, Joon Young stops and tells Kook Young to inform CEO Namgoong that without Eul as the PD, he won’t be filming a second of the documentary. Unaware that Joon Young’s fighting to get her her job back, Eul on the other hand is staring at Ji Tae who never gave her a response and is instead downing shots of alcohol. She finally takes back her proposal and tries to give Ji Tae a way out by stating what he should say: “It’s not like that Eul. Why would I turn down a lovely girl like you. I just can’t believe how great this is.” She smiles brightly as she speaks, but her smile dims as she realizes that Ji Tae’s not saying anything. She tells him that she guesses that’s not how he feels, and when he still remains quiet, she concludes that he doesn’t like her, tells him that she doesn’t like him either and storms off. Except, she stops when she gets outside and is stunned to see that Ji Tae’s still not coming after her. She slinks away, depressed that she lost her job and got dumped on the same day. Inside the restaurant, the restaurant owner: Bong Sook tells Ji Tae that Eul doesn’t know her place and explains that she thinks that Ji Tae’s too good for Eul. She starts to offer herself as a replacement but Ji Tae cuts her short as he states that he hadn’t responded to Eul’s proposal because he didn’t think he was good enough for her (okay. I get that. My question though is why do you want to come in-between her and Joon Young then. Especially when you’ve decided that you don’t want to be with her because you’re not worthy. I don’t get it).
3. Ji Tae’s still meddling in Eul’s love life and Eul clears the air
Eul’s phone begins to ring and Ji Tae realizes that she’d left it behind. The only problem is that Eul’s nowhere in sight so Ji Tae having no choice picks it up. Except, the person on the other end of the line is Joon Young and he’s surprised to hear a man pick up Eul’s phone. He tries fishing for information about Ji Tae’s identity without giving Ji Tae his name but Ji Tae correctly guesses that it’s Joon Young and states that if it is Joon Young, then he shouldn’t call Eul anymore (dude, not cool. Picking up her call is one thing, making such statements just makes it so much worse). Joon Young wonders who Ji Tae is to give him such instructions and demands to know if Ji Tae is Eul’s husband. Ji Tae’s surprised and before he can reply, Eul, who’s come back for her phone snatches it from him and answers. Joon Young hearing her voice when moments before, he’d heard her ‘husband’ hangs up. Ji Tae then grabs Eul’s phone and calls her using his own phone. When he sees that she really had stored his name as husband, he smiles and asks her if he’s her husband. Eul grumbles that he always takes the other person’s side, just like Korean husbands do (hehehehe. Sweetie, they act the same in Nigeria as well). She makes to leave but Ji Tae stops her to tell her that someday soon, she will meet someone worthy of her love. Realizing that he doesn’t know when to quit, Eul points out that his being nice isn’t making matters any better and tells him that she never wants to see him again and she doesn’t want him calling her either. With that, she heads home. But then, she remembers Joon Young calling her, wonders what it is that he wants and if he wants to see her angry. She starts to send him an angry text, deletes it, tries to send him a text pleading with him to help her get her job back, but changes her mind as she decides that she will survive just fine without him. Except, Joon Young’s waiting for her when she gets to Na Ri’s, and he wonders why she’s living with Na Ri when she has a husband. When he starts asking her twenty-one questions about her marriage, Eul admits that she’s not married, nor does she have kids. And she lives with her friend because she has no home, money or pride and now, because of psychotic Joon Young, she doesn’t have a job either. She finishes her rant and notices that Joon Young’s smiling. Concluding that he’s lost his mind (hehehe. He’s just delighted that you’re still single is all), she walks away and gets a call from the production company who tell her that she would be needed to see the documentary to its end. She’s confused as she’d thought they were hiring a new PD but she’s informed that Joon Young’s insistent on not filming a second of the documentary if she’s not the PD on the project (yup. You just got your job back, thanks to the same guy you just called a psycho. You’re welcome).
4. Jik issues Eul a warning
The cameras are set up all over Joon Young’s house, videotaping every moment of his day (am I pervy for being bummed that there’s none in his bathroom? Really pervy huh? Got it) and Joon Young’s especially a good sport about it although he doesn’t do much but wake up, play with Pororo and head out. Over at Na Ri’s house, Eul’s stuffing Jik with a ton of food to prep him for the ‘starvation’ he’ll be sure to experience because of her soon to be hectic schedule. Jik’s used to her exaggerations however and merely suggests that she watch out for Joon Young’s fan clubs who are known to be the worst of all celebrity fans. He warns her that they’re at the moment running a background check on her and just as he speaks, Ha Ru texts him about him not giving her anything on Eul and her coming after him should she find out that anything he told her is a lie. He has every right to be worried to because Joon Young fans, led by Ha Ru of course, are at the moment, making packed lunches with his face on it (Well would you look at that, Young Ok was way ahead of her time. She’d been stuffing his face on food long before she’d known he would be a star). Ha Ru’s not paying attention to what’s going on around her, but is furious at Jik asking her if her parents know what she’s doing. Jik turns out to be Eul texting her and when Ha Ru calls Jik, Eul makes to answer but Jik ends the call and refuses to hand the phone over. Eul follows him out of the house talking about insane Ha Ru, but Jik corrects her that Ha Ru’s actually pretty sane, and it’s just the power of Joon Young to turn everyone who’s remotely drawn to him insane with their feelings for him. He warns Eul against falling for Joon Young, stating that they’re not in the same level anymore and she could get hurt. Eul tries to shake off his worry and Jik tells her that he’d rather she dated Ji Tae who’s nice. He heads to school and as Eul watches him leave, she mutters that he doesn’t know anything because Ji Tae broke up with her already (is it a break up when you guys aren’t dating though?).
5. Ha Ru’s amazing at reading signals and Young Ok continues to push her son away
Over at the Choi household, Ji Tae remembers Eul’s proposal to him, and her calling him her husband and he has to suppress a smile. He’s called to play a game with his father and their moment’s interrupted by Ha Ru who comes bearing gifts, namely Joon Young’s face on a t-shirt which she hands over to Hyun Joon along with an invite to attend Joon Young’s concert. Ji Tae, who’s very well aware of who Joon Young is tells Ha Ru that Hyun Joon’s too busy for such. And besides, she has to concentrate on her college exams otherwise she will fail them yet again. Ha Ru ignores him and continues to press Hyun Joon to come along with her, stating that it would be cool if he’s a witness to Joon Young’s documentary as well. That’s the last straw for Joon Young who snaps at her to stop and be like the other kids who are concentrating on getting into college. He tells her to quit the fan club and Ha Ru shoots right back that she wouldn’t because Joon Young’s more important to her than getting into college. In fact, he’s more important than her life itself and so he shouldn’t be telling her what to do. Hyun Joon tries to caution her but Ha Ru points to how weird and scary Ji Tae is being. She stomps off angry and Ji Tae apologizes to Hyun Joon for shouting at Ha Ru (uhhh, shouldn’t you be apologizing to Ha Ru as well. You know her right. The teenager you just shouted at). Hyun Joon doesn’t think anything of it as he instead tells Ji Tae that he’s finding himself liking Joon Young just a bit (uh-oh. Not the words Ji Tae wants to be hearing from you daddy dearest). His reason being that he’d been worried about Ji Tae’s inability to get angry even though he has every reason to be. And now, Joon Young’s shown him that Ji Tae’s alright (nah. He just showed you that your son’s a loose keg, ready to blow up at a little prodding. Prodding that involves your other son and something you think Ji Tae’s justified to be angry about). Meanwhile, over at Young Ok’s, Joon Young’s been waiting for her so he can give her tickets to his concert. She isn’t interested and even though he warns her that it would be the only time she would be able to see him, she tears up the tickets to prove just how uninterested she is. She tries walking away and when he calls her mum, she tells him she isn’t his mother because he’d dropped out of his school and pursued a career in acting, all without telling her. When he mentions that he’s way more successful as a celebrity than he would have a prosecutor, Young Ok scoffs as she reminds him that his dream had once been to help poor and needy people like himself. She wonders now if he doesn’t feel ashamed of himself and Joon Young replies that should a person like him become a prosecutor there would no hope for the poor and needy. He walks away calling out to Young Ok that he will keep the seat free for her. Young Ok replies that he would probably die before she goes there (woman, you just might get your wish. I hope this drama gives us a long time of Young Ok making it up to him. Because I don’t want any realization in the last five minutes of the drama and then an apology. I want her to realize the gravity of what years filled with hate and a need to prove herself to an unworthy man have brought her: a non-existent relationship with a dying son).
6. All roads lead to the concert
It’s the day of the concert and Eul walks the grounds with her camera in hand, documenting everything that’s happening. She is unaware though that Ji Tae’s following behind her with a baseball cap covering his face. Ji Tae on the other hand is unaware that Hyun Joon had snuck into the concert hall to cheer up Ha Ru (she’s still all huffy about Ji Tae reprimanding her) and to also see Joon Young in action. He’d even agreed to take a selfie with Ha Ru and the housekeeper when it’s demanded. The concert then kicks off to the cheering of the crowd and Joon Young’s amazing voice which has everyone enthralled, from Eul, to Hyun Joon and even Ji Tae who’d also snuck into the concert. As Eul watches Joon Young perform to the screaming crowd, she hears Jik’s advice, telling her not to fall for Joon Young especially because he’s on a completely different level for them all. Overwhelmed, she ducks out of sight and both Ji Tae and Joon Young notice. But soon she pops right back home and continues filming and Joon Young smiles to see her (awwww). Having kept his promise, Hyun Joon heads out of the concert hall where he sees a banner of Joon Young. The sight takes him back to their first meeting and when Joon Young had promised to come back for the book Hyun Joon had offered him. He chuckles as he admits that Joon Young would not be coming for the book after all, and he walks away. Someone who’s not smiling at the moment is Eun Soo who’s briefed on Hyun Joon’s whereabouts. The minute she hears that he’s at Joon Young’s concert, her entire face crumbles as she loses her temper and sends the glass vase flying (well now we know where Ji Tae picked up his zero to ninety in seconds behavior from. Plus, she definitely knows something about him).
7. The debt’s been repaid
Young Ok comes upon Young Deuk (one of Young Ok’s trained anti-fans) watching Joon Young’s concert on his phone. As expected, she’s not thrilled and hits him as she sends him off to the kitchen to work. Jeong Sik shows up at that moment with an envelope in hand. He hands her the envelope and in it, she finds money in it and Jeong Sik tells her that it’s the money that Joon Young offered to Kook Young after his accident which Kook Young should have given Joon Young three years prior but the guy had kept it. He then goes on to say that now, they’re on equal grounds and clarifies that Joon Young had dropped out of school first. Then Kook Young had his accident and then Joon Young signed up with a talent agency. He tells Young Ok to remember the order and walks away.
8. A very public confession
Joon Young gets a break in his concert and whilst CEO Namgoong is trying to psych him up about his final performance for the night, and Man Ok’s fixing up his makeup, Eul shows up, with her camera in hand as she asks him how he feels about his first concert in a long while. Joon Young’s not interested in the questioning however and just goes straight to ask Eul who Ji Tae is. He grills her, wondering how he looks and how old he is. When he mentions that her boyfriend Ji Tae sounds ugly, Eul snaps and tells him that Ji Tae isn’t her boyfriend. At the words, he smiles. We then cut to him doing his final song at the concert. Eul’s still videotaping and Ji Tae’s still watching. And all of a sudden, Joon Young puts up a message that there’s someone he loves who’s there with them and he wants to confess. Delusional Ha Ru wonders if it’s her, and when the lights come on, we see Joon Young, on stage, holding onto the white teddy bear. He then pulls Eul up on stage with him and hands her the teddy bear as he sings to her. Ji Tae who sees this, walks away, whilst Ha Ru’s co fans show her something that has her making a face.
9. Facing the backlash
Next thing we see, Joon Young’s covering his face out of the embarrassment of being rejected and Kook Young’s showing the news report with high school Joon Young and Eul. CEO Namgoong is in a snit about Eul being ex-girlfriend and even as Joon Young reads it all, looking stunned, Man Ok reads the headline about Eul having snatched her friend’s boyfriend and states that there are a lot of mean comments about Eul online. She starts to read them, comments ranging from them wanting to leave Joon Young’s fan club, to comments about Eul being a gold digger. Joon Young’s angry and asks for a screenshot to be taken because he’s going to sue but Man Ok’s of the opinion that if all these comments are being uploaded, then Eul must be in serious trouble. Turns out Man Ok’s right because not only does spoiled and entitled Ha Ru toss water in Eul’s face and tell her that she hates her, but the rest of Joon Young’s fans, who are also in the bathroom glare at her. And then when she gets outside, it’s to find a reporter waiting for her and asking her a ton of questions whilst the camera’s trained on her. Thankfully, Ji Tae’s there to put an end to the blatant violation of human rights and grabs her hand to lead her away.
10. The defining moment of first lead and second lead status
But, he doesn’t get very far because Joon Young’s waiting at the entrance to the concert hall. He walks up to them and asks if Ji Tae’s the husband. He smiles as he says he doesn’t care any way and makes to reach for Eul’s hand but Ji Tae blocks the potential contact and states that they’re being filmed at the moment. He asks if Joon Young’s comfortable with that, because from that moment on, people would think that his feelings are real. Joon Young smiles as he replies that he doesn’t care. Besides, would Ji Tae himself be alright? Joon Young’s already a celebrity and everyone knows who he is but the moment they get a hold of Ji Tae, then everyone would know who Ji Tae is as well. At the words, there’s an influx of reporters who arrive with their cameras trained on them. And then the fans join in as well. Seeing all this has Ji Tae making a decision and he drops Eul’s hand and pulls away, making sure to keep his face hidden underneath his cap. The action has Joon Young reaching for No Eul’s hand and he pulls her away.
Character I wanted to bitchslap:
Because nothing’s as upsetting as having a camera shoved in your face and this bitch ass reporter just wouldn’t move, has a stupid smirk on her face and keeps asking her questions. Urgh!

Alcohol Rep:
This episode’s a Sour Cherry Gin Smash. Sweet in some parts and tart in others. Sweet in that, Joon Young might be a jerk most of the time, but he is sweetly considerate of Eul, always putting her first and trying to learn how to care for her. Sure he’s not had as much practice as Ji Tae, her knight in misbelieved poor armor but he’s doing the best he can and it shows. Like seriously, this is a guy who’s never sued for slander for fear his mother getting caught in the net but at that moment of Eul’s exposure, he’s immediately interested in pursuing that option. And I find it sweet. Way sweeter than the hand grab actually (the me Tarzan, you Jane moment had me rolling my eyes). But the tart comes with Young Ok’s fixation of what she thinks she’s lost, especially because we know she will be losing the real deal in a matter of months and Joon Young wouldn’t have had enough time with the mother who’s never seen him as his own person but rather as a tool to be used to make a point to Hyun Joon.

Uncontrollably Fond (Korean: 함부로 애틋하게; RR: Hamburo Aeteusage) is a South Korean television series starring Kim Woo-bin and Bae Suzy.[1][2][3][4][5] It aired on KBS2 on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 21:55 KST from July 6 to September 8, 2016.[6][7][8]
While the audience ratings for the drama fell below expectations locally, it was well-received across Asia. In China, it streamed on Youku simultaneously with South Korea’s broadcast and has reached more than 4 billion cumulative views then, making it the site’s most viewed Korean drama.[7][9]
Synopsis [ edit ]
Shin Joon-young (Kim Woo-bin) and Noh Eul (Bae Suzy) were classmates who were separated during their teenage years due to an ill-fated relationship, but later meet each other in adulthood. Shin Joon-young is now a top actor-singer while Noh Eul is a documentary producer.
Noh Eul had a tough childhood; her father died in a hit-and-run prompting Noh Eul to quit school and make a living for herself and her brother. Shin Joon-young, on the other hand, had his life planned out for him. His mother wanted him to become a prosecutor to follow the footsteps of his estranged father, but an incident caused him to quit law school and become a singer-actor.
The two later reunite when Noh Eul is tasked to film Shin Joon-young’s documentary after telling the producer that wanted to shoot the documentary that she can persuade him for giving consent to shoot the documentary. Joon-young initially gives Noh Eul a miserable time before finally agreeing to do the documentary and eventually tries to win her heart back.

Filming began on November 26, 2015 at Kyungnam University in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea;[13] and finished on April 12, 2016.[14]
The series reunited Kim Woo-bin and Lim Ju-eun who both starred in the hit drama The Heirs and Bae Suzy, Lee Yu-bi, Jin Kyung and Kim Ki-bang who starred in the historical drama Gu Family Book.
