Recreating Twice’s Outfits from “Alcohol-Free”

Alcohol-Free, the lead single from Twice’s summer-themed EP Taste of Love, is a bossa nova track that compares falling in love to getting drunk without consuming any alcohol. Released on June 9, the music video has become Twice’s 18th music video to reach 100 million views on YouTube, and Alcohol-Free reached that benchmark the fastest (in just 11 days). Filmed on Jeju Island, the MV depicts the girls in a super fun and dizzyingly patterned wardrobe that will get you in the mood for summer fashion. Read on for an in-depth look at two sets of outfits from Alcohol-Free!
Outfit #1
The members rock the first set of looks beachside, surrounded by tanning chairs, beach umbrellas, palm trees and a vibrant drink stand with a large sign that reads “Alcohol-Free.” As they dance, their surroundings transition from bright blue skies to a watercolor-esque sunset to dazzling fireworks against the night sky. Their outfits comprise of sleeveless crop tops, fitted short shorts and a plethora of repurposed patterned silk scarves. The pieces are primarily white, which feels light and airy, while the spattering of colorful patterns makes them more tropical. Simple white sneakers, which all nine girls sport, lend their flirty, summery attire a more casual vibe. In a sea of white, you can’t help but notice that Dahyun’s pair is enlivened with red detailing at the back.
Chaeyoung
Chaeyoung is clad in a white cross-strap cropped halter top with multicolored patterned trim, which is worn alongside white shorts with matching trim. The sharp co-ord set experiments with modern silhouettes – perfect for Twice’s resident fashionista.
Dahyun
Dahyun is dressed in a pearl-trimmed cropped halter top in white, which she pairs with a fluttery asymmetric-hem printed skirt and statement white floral earrings that match the dreamy detailing of her crop top.
Jeongyeon
Jeongyeon creates a unique ensemble by layering a chain-print silk scarf top over a puff-sleeve, high-low-hem white dress. She mixes a bold, on-trend top with a classic, demure dress, letting the interesting hemlines shine!
Jihyo
Like Jeongyeon, Jihyo taps into the silk scarf trend by transforming it into a chic tie-back top. She pairs her sleeveless top with white flared pants that give off a retro feel – they even come with a contrasting red-patterned back pocket! To throw more patterns into the mix, Jihyo ties her hair back with a silk scarf, showing the accessory’s multifunctional use. She adorns her ears with small chunky gold hoops.
Mina
Elegant and ladylike as ever, Mina is clad in a white halter-neck romper dress that’s lined with multicolored patterned trim. Her hair is tied back in a twisted half-up hairstyle that shows off her dangling pearl and gold charm earrings.

Momo dons a light blue sleeveless tie-hem button-up shirt that’s trimmed with navy chain print, and a pair of hot pants with a faux belt print. Complete with her red paisley headband, the look has a tomboyish appeal that not only flaunts Momo’s toned figure but also allows her to dance freely.
Nayeon
Nayeon builds her outfit with summer basics – a white tube top and figure-hugging navy shorts – both of which are elevated with contrast patterned trim. Believe it or not, Twice’s outfits for Alcohol-Free were made almost entirely from scarves!
The only way to ensure that an outfit is completely unique is to design and make it from scratch, and that’s exactly what Twice’s stylist did for their latest comeback.

Other than making outfits entirely from scratch, Twice also makes use of the scarves to customise existing clothing items, such as adding sleeves to a sleeveless top.
Just like Twice, we can also get creative with our existing clothes, modifying them using other materials we have on hand, or combining them with another piece of clothing to make a new clothing item entirely.

This type of modification isn’t exclusive to scarves either! In their teaser photos, Nayeon wears a ruffled cropped top over a tube bustier dress, giving her some extra coverage while still looking super cute.

Of course, not all of us can afford to make a whole new dress out of expensive luxury brand scarves, or sew different pieces together to create a new look, but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn a thing or two from Twice’s stylist!
Other than making new clothes entirely, Twice also sports modified versions of existing clothes. For example, The checked mini dress that Mina sports in the teasers for Alcohol-Free was actually a midi dress that was tailored to be shorter.

For a similar look at a more affordable price, you can try this flower and checkered pattern dress by Near & Dear! Not only does it have a similar pattern, it also features puffed sleeves and side slits. Like the original dress that Mina wears, this dress is also a midi.
This dress comes in only one size, and this is quite common with Korean clothing brands. While free-size clothing may seem like a gamble, any issues with the fit can actually be fixed easily with a little bit of tailoring!
