Matrix DeZIONized, The
Intention:
After the fantastic movie “The Matrix” everyone was awaiting the sequels, but somehow the writer/directors were not able to continue the epic they started in the way they began. In our humble opinion they lost themselves in detail, wanted to much and definetly to show off with effect orgies. We tried to continue the Matrix withing the Matrix wherever possible. Leaving out the Zion scenes was a major improvement of pace and plot development and the most interesting thing about it is that these scenes are not missed when left out. We tried to be smart and reduced the Matrix sequels to the max. Also we cut out several scenes that just did not feel right or felt to be unnecessary, e.G. when Morpheus talks to Link about trust, it just feels wrong and Morpheus seems to become a stereotype of himself. When Trinity dies on the rooftop and is saved by Neo with an inside heart massage, it just is to much to take (at least for the men in our group). The ending scene that most people criticised about Revolutions becomes reat, when the Zion battle is just not fought.

There are a great many things wrong with The Matrix sequels. So many, in fact, that we would need a whole other article to list them. One of the main scenes that came under scrutiny in the Matrix Reloaded, however, was the weird orgy-rave-thing that happened in the real world of Zion, where humanity is a pocket of rebellious so-and-sos who have escaped the computer simulation and the killer robots that keep them there, starting a new underground society where they can all dress like they just came back from a gap year in Cambodia where they, like, helped make a school and really discovered themselves and they really know how to live out there, you know?
We think sometimes they have more things to teach us than the other way round. Any time we went to Zion, in fact, was a drag. We don’t wanna watch a bunch of dirty hippies banging in a cave, we want Keanu Reeves stopping bullets with his brain and Agent Smith jumping on cars like the floor is lava! So thank the architect that is CBB for producing The Matrix DeZIONized, which takes both the sequels (Reloaded and Revolutions) and cuts them down into one film which is all killer, no filler. And there was a considerable amount of filler in there, which is probably how they got a pair of two-hour long movies down into one.
There’s absolutely zero Zion action, the weird fake-out death of Trinity goes too (which means the Jesus parallels with Neo are, mercifully, kept to a minimum), a bunch of exposition-heavy speeches are in the bin, and instead we just get a sweet sequel to The Matrix that’s heavy on the stylish action we loved, and light on the tedious philosophising and techno babble we hated. Everybody’s happy! Well, we’re happy. Which is basically the same thing.

But the Matrix Trilogy had a very disappointing end.
Reloaded was nothing compared to The Matrix and Revolutions even nothing compared to Reloaded…
Pathetic.
That is why we made this edition. We did watch the movies over and over, sensing there was quality in them, but so many things were distracting, did not make much sense, were just boring to watch.
Then Boon came up with the idea to leave out Zion at all, to never have Morpheus speech, nor the great battle, not the dance scene, not the prime minister and especially no Commander Locke. We thought about it a lot and we came to the result, he was right. Zion had to be left out of the sequels to get a better movie and it would be possible to do that without destroying the plot, cause all major and important actions happen to be at other locations than Zion. We also shortened lots of other scenes we did not like or thought to be not fitting, e.G. the dream sequence beginning, where Trinity falls out of the window. Although this scene was great action, it just was not thrilling and as it is repeated later on, we just deletetd it (in fact we put this scene to the point, when it actually happened and deleted the shortened version there). Of course we thougt about plenty other scenes to leave out, e.G. the indian family in the beginning of Revolutions, but we decided it was good to have that for mood and plot. All in all it took us several months to think about which scenes to keep and which one to cut.

I’m pretty sure that this film is illegal. But it’s bloody good.
The tag-line is ‘The True Sequel to The Matrix ’. It’s a ‘fan edit’ of Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions , combined, with all the tedious/stupid bits taken out, and some of the ridiculous fight sequences edited down to slightly more reasonable lengths. In all, they’ve cut 120 minutes from the combined films (and added in a minute of footage from the original The Matrix ).
This film’s very existance is a wonderful argument for reform of copyright law because, you see, you’re not supposed to be allowed to do this sort of thing. Copyright law prohibits it. There’s an odd notion called ‘Moral rights’ embedded in the Berne (International copyright) Convention, which says that creators of works have the right to say what can be done with them even if, as in this case, the original creators, the Wachowski brothers, were clearly out of their trees when they edited their second two Matrix movies, and this fan-edited version is by far a better film.
It’s not perfect. There are a couple of places, mostly noticeable in the musical score, where the cuts are less than perfect, but speaking as one who thought that Reloaded was shit, and therefore had less than no inclination to see the third one, I thoroughly enjoyed this version. You kind of need to have seen the original The Matrix , otherwise it doesn’t make much sense. I’m not sure that’s a bad thing, though.
So you won’t see The Matrix Dezionized in any shops; it’s not going to be on the telly, and the only way you will get to see it is if you throw your morality to the wind and break the law by illegally downloading it from the piratical, naughty Internet.
