Takes a while (like the better part of a year) to warm up to new folks. Very loyal to the people in his very small inner circle of actual friends.S: He cares about the here and now more than the “what if” in life. Both before and after the apocalypse, he was more interested in things he could touch and build and hold than abstract things. I feel like sometimes he can’t see the forest past all the trees– he’s totally happy just hanging out with Tess and scavenging and smuggling and stuff, and he needs her convincing to step out beyond that. He seems to notice and thrive most on the details.T: He makes decisions very logically (except for one major one, and even that one could be argued was logical based on how he views the world) and is always calculating the best course of action. He refuses to mourn or even think about the people he’s lost because he thinks it will distract him from keeping safe. And honestly, he’s really bad at getting what he wants through friendliness and charm, lol. She thinks outside of the box and her thought process is fairly complicated to other people. She is also very interested about the outside world.

what do you think ellie’s mbti personality is??? i read in more than one place that she’s considered an enfp which really surprised me because i have always thought that she’s an intx. I still think of her as an intj, not gonna lie.
from the 16 Personalities site, about intj: “These personalities can be both the boldest of dreamers and the bitterest of pessimists.” I just think this fits so well with ellie cause she’s definetly is a dreamer (she talks different times about wanting to be an astronaut, about her dream of buying a space shuttle) but i feel like she can also be extremely realist, like she has no in between.
here no need for me to tell anything: “ Architects (intj) don’t mind acting alone […] They also generally feel comfortable making decisions without asking for anyone else’s input. At times, this lone-wolf behavior can come across as insensitive, as it fails to take into consideration other people’s thoughts, desires, and plans.”
“This personality type is full of contradictions. Architects are imaginative yet decisive, ambitious yet private, and curious yet focused.” I just think all of this is so Ellie.
I think she’s a nerd for the things she likes, she definetly has a logic mind but without missing creativity. she’s an extremely smart girl, decisive and a little of a loner. i don’t see her being an extrovert, i think she is only really comfortable around people she know and likes.

Dominant Ti: Joel understands mechanical and logically subjective systems particularly well; his ability to consistently problem-solve in a world without typical constraints like order and social standing ultimately insure his continued survival. He maintains a survivor’s mindset both before and after Sarah’s death, unlike everyone else around him. Ironically enough, his default, unique worldview adapts quickly to the world after the outbreak since it doesn’t really need to do any adapting at all. Joel always finds a way to survive, finding ways to overcome difficulties of both the financial and fungal kind. Another tip-off: Joel rarely ever voices his thought process and doesn’t order his companions around much. He never comes across as domineering or controlling, unlike most extraverted thinkers.
Auxiliary Se: There’s no doubt that Joel constantly lives in the moment. His of awareness of his external environment is quite impressive; hotwiring cars, constructing makeshift weapons, and quickly reacting to external stimulus all seem to come naturally to him. Joel is ultimately a man of never-ending action who enjoys getting his hands dirty. His work as a carpenter prior to the occurrence of the outbreak further emphasizes his talent for understanding logical systems (Ti) and applying that understanding in a very concrete manner (Se).
Tertiary Ni: Though primarily uninterested in symbolism and theoretical analysis, Joel always strives to locate some certain goal or reason to continue living in such a morally shattered world. He even states this outright: “I struggled for a long time with survivin’, and no matter what, you keep finding something to fight for.” Ellie herself becomes the subject of Joel’s tertiary Ni: her existence corresponds with his will to survive. Nowhere is this more evident than in the game’s climax, where Joel unleashes hell upon the Firefly base and ruthlessly murders the group’s leader to keep Ellie’s brain from being experimented upon.
Inferior Fe: Never comfortable with outward displays of emotion, Joel usually shies away from expressing his affinity for Ellie’s company. When discussing the surplus of death surrounding Ellie and himself, Joel always treats the subject with a frighteningly frigid sense of logic. However, his desire to raise Sarah single-handedly while struggling with his own demons and his numerous amount of social/business connections (Bill, Tess, Robert) indicate that he directs his emotional energy towards others, not himself. Joel rarely ever stops to analyze his own feelings, never questioning his morally dubious choices in a morally dubious world.
Note: Many people type Joel as an ISXJ due to his inability to let go of Sarah’s death. His obsession with parts of his past is primarily because of the emotional trauma he’s experienced, not some sort of Si-usage. Another thing to consider: the virtual destruction of the past thanks to the outbreak. Joel’s generation of survivors are naturally more nostalgic since they literally witnissed their world fall to pieces. Preserving the past becomes of utmost importance for him and his contemporaries. Joel discusses the past usually only with Ellie, in order to demonstrate to her how much the world has changed as result of the outbreak.

Extroverted Sensing (Se): Ellie is quick to take action and is highly adaptable to her environment. Ultimately, this is what has allowed her to survive so long during in the harsh environment the world had become since the outbreak. She can be reckless at times, however. She learns how to use a bow and a gun with very little experience. She is fearless in facing anyone (or anything) that comes her way. She’s very excited about the new, and terrifying, experience of finally leaving the Quarantine Zone. Ellie is captivated by nature when she first sees it up close, even stopping to admire sunsets, and is shown to love music.
Introverted Feeling (Fi): Ellie is fiercely loyal to all those that she comes close to. She forges a very strong, silent bond with Joel fairly quickly. Ellie has a strong moral code to never leave anyone behind. She marches to the beat of her own drum, can be rebellious, and is not easily persuaded. This is seen when David tries to get her to join his gang. She can be very impulsive, as she ran away after overhearing that Joel was going to leave her with his brother to take her to find the Fireflies.
Extroverted Thinking (Te): Ellie often covers up her deep emotions and sadness with Te bluntness. Ellie is very mature for her age, however, and is able to take charge of a very bad situation, like when Joel was severely injured. She’s a very good strategist when she needs to be.
Introverted Intuition (Ni): Ellie was usually focused on surviving day by day, but especially after the trauma she suffered with David, she falls more into the grip of her inferior function. She becomes more withdrawn and has laser focus on getting to the Fireflies base of operations. She can sometimes be fearful of the future.
NOTE: Originally I considered ISFP, considering how strong her Fi is at times, but Ellie never hesitates. She jumps right into things with little introspection and gets bored sitting around too much. She’s quick to engage most other people and also has an intense fear of being left alone.
