Long Series Kdrama Review The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop

The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop (2016) 月桂的紳士西裝店

Episodes: 54

starring Lee Dong Gun as Lee Dong Jin, Jo Yoon Hee as Na Yun Shil, Shin Goo as Lee Man Sool, Cha In Pyo as Bae Sam Do, Choi Won Young as Sung Tae Pyung, Hyun Woo as Kang Tae Yang, Oh Hyun Kyung as Lee Dong Sook, Lee Se Young as Min Hyo Won

Doing this based on memory.

I remember the interaction between Dong Jin and Yun Shil as funny. At the start, Yun Shil mistakes him as someone else which causes misunderstandings. I still remember one time Dong Jin happens to chance upon her at her mother-in-law’s farm and he slips and falls and spoils some fruits. They are quite sweet and awkward later on haha. Yun Shil’s husband or husband-to-be is a gangster that was arrested during the wedding if I am not wrong. Yun Shil’s husband-to-be helped her pay off her debt which is a big sum of money so she is grateful and marries him to repay him. He later threatens to harm them if she gets together with Dong Jin. Dong Jin’s mother is also against them being together since she feels that Dong Jin deserves more and his ex-wife is quite rich. She is also worried for Dong Jin’s safety. I feel that his ex-wife is quite foolish to divorce him because he resigns from the big company haha.

It is funny how the couple who runs the fried chicken business always suspects each other is cheating on him/her. The husband is often looked at for his good looks and muscles which leads to the wife often arguing and fighting with female customers. While it seems like the husband is what most woman wants, he is actually being cheated easily and is in debt for being a guarantor for his friend. They often take turns to suspect each other is going out with someone.

There is also another couple. Dong Sook opens a small comic cafe and is a fan of a once famous singer. At first, the top star looks down on her but ends up liking her later. Although once famous for singing rock, he is now earning a living singing other songs such as slow songs, folk music, and singing in front of shops to attract customers. If I didnt remember wrongly, Dong Sook even sells her cafe to help him produce a new music album but he ends up getting cheated. My mother feels that he should just give up on singing rock and earn money through other means but I dont think so. He can earn money using other means but should not give up on what he wants to do at the same time.

There is another young couple, Tae Yang and Hyo Won. The actor that acts as Tae Yang looks good-looking at first sight but not so after some time haha. Tae Yang is Yun Shil’s good friend. He is poor and likes someone but his love was unrequited and the person doesnt reject him until some time later. Then, he meets Hyo Won who is bubbly and cheerful and likes him first. If I didnt remember wrongly, she buys him meals just to stare at him haha. They are quite cute together. It is funny how he promises Hyo Won’s mum that he wont like Hyo Won. It is interesting to watch how Hyo Won’s mum accepts him even though she doesnt want to later on. He somehow meets the needs of Hyo Won’s mum haha. Liked how Tae Yang and Yun Shil support each other emotionally.

PERSONAL COMMENT

I love family dramas. In the universe of kdrama, where there are lots of genre, I think that these sit coms are the most underrated, yet sometimes much better of other more famous works. They may have absurd characters and sometimes even more crazy clichés and plot twists, but they still try to paint the life of normal people in their daily life. Obviously with a bit (or a lot) of salt!

“The gentleman of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop” was a drama I started out of boredom, but that I ended up enjoy it much more than I was expecting.

The plot, as the title suggests, it’s about the gentlemen of this little and old Tailor Shop. The first gentleman is the owner, Lee ManSol, a old tailor and father that would like to continue this little family business with his son. One day, he disappear, and this is the start of our story.

The second gentleman is the son of Lee ManSol, Lee DongJin, a smart and handsome man who is married in an important family, where he isn’t happy. The third gentleman is Bae SamDo, an old worker of the Tailor Shop who is now working at a chicken shop with his wife. The fourth one is Song TaePyung, or Sung Jun, a rock ballad singer who has just come back from America after 15 years. Last but not least, there is the young Kang TaeYang, who is working part time, waiting to realise his dream.

The drama tells the stories of these five men and their love life, in the most realistic way ever. There are married couples, couples that divorce, new couple, difficult love stories and, as in all the family dramas, a mother in law who doesn’t accept his daughter/son in law!

It may seem long, but I assure you that you won’t even realize to be at the end of the drama because, despite some bad plot choices, the drama is well written and the story line is interesting, showing the life compared to the making of a suit. It was innovative and fresh and I liked this approach, which is different from the usual ones, where we can only see the big company and their most important members.

The ending was satisfying and sweet. It was an obvious ending, but I loved how simple they kept it, showing each couple’s slice of life and their little happiness with their families.

The actors were all great. I actually found this drama after finishing “Queen for seven days” (the main character of this drama played the King there) but I was surprised to see so many other actors and actresses I already knew. The couples all had a great chemistry and I wasn’t surprised to read that the main couples ended together also in real life.

I loved all the couples but the best was the younger one, also known as A-choo’s couple, since every time they were on screen doing some sweet stuff they played this song. They were the most fresh and cute couple, and the only one which never did anything annoying or extremely stupid.

I also want to spend a couple of word for the actresses who played the mother’s role, Kim YoungAe. She was fighting with cancer while doing this drama and she didn’t appear in the last episodes (she actually died a couple of months after this drama’s ending), but she was perfect in her role of a strong yet loving mother and wife. I think that her last work gave justice to her acting career!

The music was very good and I loved how they chose some songs for each couple, as I said for the “A-choo’s couple”. The background music was nice as well.

If you’re a fan of this genre, I suggest you to give this drama a chance. It isn’t perfect, but it tries to be realistic and this is enough for me to enjoy it. If you want to see some warm and cute love stories, remember this drama: it will be perfect for your cold winter’s night!

The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop (2016)

Overall 9.5 Story 10 Acting/Cast 10 Music 8.5 Rewatch Value 8.5

This is the third long drama that I’ve watch and its my favorite so far! The plot might not seem as interesting as some other dramas but you have to keep in mind that this is a family drama so the plot revolves heavily around the men of Wolgyesu tailor shop and their family.I fell for the main males characters quickly! The drama shows us that these gentlemen have flaws and arent perfect from the very beginning and I think thats what made me love them so much. They each had their own story and we get to see how they deal with romance and daily life. The female leads (the different love interests) are a different story, although I did love each of them at the end, there were moments when I didn’t like them at all! The secondary characters (mainly the family) were your typical annoying meddling family. There are two family shown and they are completely different. I liked the contrast between them and I like how we got to see the, grow closer. The acting was great and very believable. One of my favorute parts of this drama is that at the end you’re happy with how everything ended. Usually dramas have super villanous people who will do anything to get want they want even killing but this show didn’t have that. There are what you would call villains but they werent really that bad. I only hated them for a couple of episodes and then they showed us a different side and in the end they all moved on. I love how this drama shows forgiveness and how people make mistakes and that people can change for th better. The show is 50+ episodes but I watch all most of them. I only skipped around 4 or 5 episode because at the time I was watching I had college stuff to do and I wanted to finish the drama before. Those episode to me were not that important so I didn’t miss anthing major.Overall it was very entertaining and kept me wanting to watch the next episode! I binged this drama for a day because of how addicting it was. I recommend this drama for anyhing who isnt into major major drama and likes to see peoples daily lives.

THE SHORT VERDICT:

A well-plotted, solid story from start to finish, The Crowned Clown is a show that has quite a bit to offer.

The palace intrigue isn’t always the most compelling, but on the upside, there’s a real king, a fake king, a forbidden romance, all the complications that arise from it all, a touch of levity to lighten things from time to time, and a stirring OST to score it all.

Our main cast is excellent all-around, but it’s Yeo Jin Goo who knocks it out of the ballpark and then some, playing both king and clown.

I’ve always considered Yeo Jin Goo an excellent actor, but Yeo Jin Goo has never been more amazing to my eyes, than in this show. Some minor lens adjustments are necessary, but once you’ve got that down, Show is such a good ride.

Meaty enough to chew on, yet affecting enough to deeply engage the heart.

The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop

Wow, it must be something in the water with KBS right now. They continue to produce great weekend family drama. Five Children was a great hit! I enjoyed it so much! If I could rewatch, I would! I was skeptical with Laurel Tree Tailors simply because of the title! And the drama poster was not to my liking. Like Five Children, I waited for reactions on the Twitter before I started it. The reviews were extremely favorable. I knew immediately that it is a cue for me to stat it. And frankly, 46 episodes later, this show does not fail me at all. Bravo to KBS. Again, the next drama has a big shoe to fill in!

Where do I even begin with this show? Unlike Blow Breeze, this show makes me laugh. A lot! I did not like the beginning, though. It started a meh. This drama started with Man Sool, the president and owner of the Laurel Tree Tailors shop. He decided to run away from his family and his work and left his family in disarray. I thought it was a very bold yet selfish move by him. Needless to say, though, his disappearance united the family together. His apprentice Sam Do moved back to the city to run the tailor shop. His once arrogant son divorced his wife and started working in the shop, too. Yeon Shil, the junior apprentice, worked her hardest to escape her almost marriage to Gi-Pyo, a gangster she owed her life to. Tae Yang, Yeon Shil’s friend, struggled after his girlfriend left him for a wealthy man. Lastly, Tae Pyung, once a famous singer had to face his reality that he is no longer known to people.

All these five characters unite because of Laurel Tree Tailors. The plots and twists in this drama really made it really enjoyable. Yes, it has some frustrating moments but it is way better than any other family and daily dramas. The coupling in this show is to die for. They all have their own dynamics. Sam Do and his bossy wife Sun Nyeo are the hardest couples to watch. Sun Nyeo is older than Sam Do and wanted a child. But he constantly avoiding her because really, she really is an embarrassment to him. Physically and mentally. Dong Jin fell for the apprentice, Yeon Shil. Of course, he did not fall for her immediately. He called her pretentious while all she ever wanted was to get along with her master’s son. Tae Yang had the hardest love life. His ex-girlfriend dumped him for a rich man who hired him just to torment him. He found love unexpectedly. Through his ex’s boyfriend’s sister! Small world, isn’t it? And lastly, our talented Tae Pyung. Dong Jin’s sister, Dong-Sook has been a fan of his music since she was in her 20s. She’s been so supportive of Tae Pyung. The road to their coupling hit a roadblock when her mom hooked her up with a self-made stingy, rich man.

The side characters’ stories are as entertaining as the main leads. I really can’t find any other way to hate them. And I really can’t give you any reasons to hate this drama. The only thing I dislike was that the show got extended by another 4 episodes. I don’t know what the reason was but I am actually okay. I haven’t seen this week’s episodes but I am certainly looking forward to it. I know some watchers are sick of the main couple, Dong Jin and Yeon Shil by now. I am not but I do get it. Her loyalty is questionable, sometimes. My favorite couple of the bunches is Tae Yang (aka Kang star) and Hyo Won. I look forward to their scenes all the time! And his proposal to her was to die for. I will never eat cotton candy the same way anymore.

Laurel Tree Tailors, or known to others as The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop, is a must watch family drama. I will seriously miss this show when it ends. Really, the show really brightens up my weekend. Yes, I am a fan of family weekend dramas. I may sound bias but hey, I think it is worth a shot. You won’t be disappointed! If you do *pouts*, please holla me!

The Gentlemen Of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop: Tin tức The Gentlemen Of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop 2022 mới nhất

Phim Hàn đình đám này đang được gọi tên nhiều nhất hôm nay vì “mai mối” thành công tận 2 cặp đôi!

The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop (1-23): Breezy Weekend Drama

The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop (1-23): Breezy Weekend Drama

A pleasant surprise: simple, cute and heartfelt. (Spoiler Free)

Watch on KBS World YouTube

Although 월계수 양복점 신사들 (or Laurel Tree Tailors) is a 50-episode weekend drama, it’s an easy watch. At the halfway point, the melo is quite limited and instead we get to see our (generally) lovable cast grow through their relationships with each other.

The best part of this show? It’s the tailor shop, for sure! A family run business since 1917, Lee Man Sol is struggling to convince his son Lee Dong Jin and his protege Bae Sam Do to take over his shop where he and his two seamstresses hand-make tailored suits to customers rich and poor. The show’s main purpose is to show us how this struggling outdated business thrives again through a mismatched group of people. And unlike many weekend dramas who resort to ridiculous family drama, The Gentleman of Wolgyesu doesn’t stray too far away from the tailor shop plotline. Obviously, this is a weekend drama, so there are a couple annoying characters, queue evil mother-in-laws, but even they show their humane sides as the show finds its footing.

There are definitely a few stand-out characters (and consequently actors) that are worth the watch. Honourable mentions include Choi Young Won as Sung Joon, the awarded 2000 ‘Best New’ Rock-Ballad Musician who’s broke and unpopular, and Park Eun Suk as Min Hyo Sang, the wannabe chairman of the conglomerate Misa Apparel who’s always second to Lee Dong Jin, his brother-in-law.

But it’s a stolen show by Ra Mi Ran.

She is back in another boisterous strong woman’s role as Bok Sun Nyeo and she’s just rocking it. All she wants is to have the child of her husband, Bae Sam Do, but age and misunderstandings are her struggles. That doesn’t mean that’s all we see of her. Noooo waaaay. Headstrong and ready to fight for justice, she gets herself involved in everybody’s business whenever there’s a problem. With a loud voice and heavy words, she sometimes makes things worse but she’s always ready to fix them no matter how. It’s her charm and way of expressing her love that make Bok Sun Nyeo (which actually means young lady, in the refined kind of way) worth the watch.

And what about the love-lines? This is a weekend drama where the love-lines are the background…our two leads pictured, Lee Dong Jin and seamstress at Wolgyesu, Na Yeon Shil, are far from being available to each other. Both ‘married’ (quotation marks necessary) and distrustful of the other, their relationship is typical in kdrama and somewhat forgettable. Luckily the writers must have realised that because the writers spend more time balancing the stories so that the popular characters and plotlines take precedence. Though special mention to the adorable friendship between Na Yeon Shil and her childhood friend Kang Tae Yang, as usually we rarely see platonic female-male friendships that are so deep and trusting as theirs without romantic intentions.

Also, it helps that the ratings are solid. Starting strong with 20% it has risen to 30% holding the #1 spot since it’s first episode. Although weekend dramas usually garner high ratings, Wolgyesu was definitely the underdog in buzz as it premiered with Our Gab Soon, starring Kim Seo Eun and Song Jae Rim, written by ratings monster Moon Young Nam (Wang’s Family peaked at 50%). Just goes to show that with solid (weekend-worthy) writing and cast, you can’t go wrong.
