This brand new Clematis is going to be a winner. It is a texensis species that produces upright to nodding, bell-shaped flowers that are around 2inches long and 1-2 inches wide, that flare out widely towards their pointed tips. The petals have an attractive colouring, being white on the inside and stained reddish-purple on the outside. These petals form around a boss of rich plum coloured stamens, which become more and more noticeable as the flowers open. Supplied in 2 litre pots on 3 feet canes, all are well rooted through and multi stemmed, about half the batch are in bud and flower at the moment.
The Breeder, Wim Snojer and grower J. van Zoest from Boskoop entered Clematis ‘Princess Kate’, in the annual competition and has ‘won best new plant’ at Plantarium 2012 in Boskoop, the Netherlands.
Judges from Koninklijke Vereniging voor Boskoopse Culturen said the plant “flowers abundantly, bearing upright flowers with a unique shape, and has a well-chosen trade name, in line with other varieties of clematis.”

Hello there As a general rule fully hardy plants that are grown in containers such as this clematis can be planted at any time of year as long as the soil isn’t frozen solid. The best times are in the autumn when the soil is still warm enough to encourage root growth but the plant isn’t in active growth, or the spring before the temperatures start to rise. So as long as the ground isn’t waterlogged or frozen, and it isn’t freezing you can plant. If we are having a cold snap and you can’t plant you can still keep this plant outside in the garden, in a sheltered spot where it won’t be blown over and it will be fine until you can plant.

Clematis Princess Kate
Princess Kate’ is a beautiful Clematis variety that produces pretty white reflexed petals with an outer regal purple hue accompanied by dark purple centres. These eye-catching flowers look similar to Tulips when they first open where they stand on deep purple stems against dense deciduous green foliage, highlighting the pale flowers. A vigorous climber, these hardy plants flower from June through to September and will flourish in areas of the garden that are sunny or partially shaded. Reaching a height of up to 3m, they can be pruned to a more manageable height and planted within containers for the patio or decking for those with smaller gardens. For gardeners wanting to make more of a feature, they can be supported along trellises or walls where they will create a beautiful showy display. Tall 7cm pot plants supplied.
Growing at a glance…
Clematis are vigorous climbing plants that reach various heights and spreads. Its best to prune back to keep control over the growth annually and initially they should be tied in to help direct the new growth. Apply a liquid fertiliser each year during the growing season, and water regularly during hot periods.Clematis can be planted October-May in areas with good drainage and plenty of sun is preferable. Soak in a bucket of water prior to planting and plant deep enough to allow plenty of room for root development. The roots of clematis like to be kept cool so it is a good idea to plant amongst low growing shrubs or bedding plants. If planting in containers, ensure the pot is large enough to allow the roots to expand/develop, as limitation of roots will certainly impede future success.
