What is it?

At almost £600, this is a serious bit of kit. With a multi-task design, it can be used as a cordless stick vacuum, a handheld vacuum and it can even mop floors. It also comes with plenty of tools and performed well in all our pick-up tests.

GHI expert verdict

This cordless vacuum is certainly an investment, but it’s very versatile and easy to use. Its several different functions didn’t compromise its excellent pick-up. So if you can justify the price, you’ll get a top performer.

The good

It was simple to use and scored top marks in all of our pick-up tests, whether cleaning hard floors, carpets, or pet hair. Not only does it have three power levels, but it also comes with a selection of useful tools. We particularly liked the extendable, crevice nozzle and the flexible tool. Both made it easy to reach awkward areas, especially when cleaning the car. Most of the tools can be stored neatly on the charging station, too. When used as a mop, it glided well and cleaned right to the edge of skirting boards. It left floors lightly damp and buffed clean.

Take note

On full power, the battery lasted just under 10 minutes and took a lengthy three and a half hours to recharge. The charging station is big and bulky, so took up quite a lot of storage space. Meanwhile, the vacuum doesn’t stand up on its own, which was frustrating if you need to stop vacuuming to move something out of the way. When using the spinning sweeper for mopping, the cloths had to be manually wet/ rinsed and there are no details on how to clean them. The dust canister was a bit fiddly and messy to empty, too.

How we test

We test each cordless vacuum multiple times on carpet, laminate and floorboards. To assess performance, we cover each surface with dust and calculate the percentage the vacuum removes. We repeat this with an assortment of debris, including biscuit crumbs and pet hair. All the tests are repeated in handheld mode. We test both modes in a variety of other cleaning scenarios, such as on stairs or in a car. We also test how long the battery lasts and how easy it is to use.

All product information provided by the manufacturer is correct at time of publication.

Best cordless vacuum 2022: top portable vacuums

In addition, they all come with useful accessories to help you get into hard-to-reach places, clean upholstery or vacuum overhead. They are one of the most convenient and versatile household appliances you can ever own.

If you’re worried about short battery life and poor suction, which gave these vacuums a bad rap before, those days are long gone. Advancements in vacuum tech mean longer battery life and better dirt collection than ever before – especially if you take the time to find an excellent model.

In fact, many of the top-notch cordless stick vacuums have made it into our best vacuum cleaners list. And, they’ve joined the ranks of the best robot vacuums and the best upright vacuums on the market.

1. Dyson V15 Detect Absolute The best cordless vacuum overall Specifications Power supply: Cordless Weight: 3.1kg Bin size: 0.75L Runtime: Up to 60 minutes specifications Condition New Today’s Best Deals View at Best Buy (opens in new tab) View at Target (opens in new tab) View at Amazon (opens in new tab) Reasons to buy + Powerful Suction + Laser highlights hidden dust + Informative LCD Screen Reasons to avoid – Average-sized dust canister – Noisy on full power

Dyson’s latest vacuum cleaner really is its best yet and the best cordless vacuum on the market, hands down. It may be expensive but with better cleaning performance and suction power than the Dyson V11, and the same long-lasting battery for the same price tag, it’s worth every penny.

On test, we found it excelled when cleaning hard floors, thanks to the inclusion of a laser that highlights microscopic dust invisible to the human eye. We were impressed that when used on Auto mode, the vacuum conserves the battery by adjusting the suction power to suit the floor type and the amount of dust automatically. There’s also a handy LCD screen that displays the remaining runtime, too.

The V15 Detect Absolute has an average-sized dust canister, and is noisy when used on full power. Not to mention, it’s fairly pricey, but we think it’s worth the money if you want the best vacuum cleaner on the market.

2. Roidmi R10 The best budget cordless vacuum Specifications Power supply: Cordless Weight: 2.4kg Bin size: 0.4L Runtime: Up to 40 minute specifications Colour Silver Condition New Today’s Best Deals View at Verishop (opens in new tab) View at Amazon (opens in new tab) View at Target (opens in new tab) Reasons to buy + Super lightweight + Quiet + Sleek Design Reasons to avoid – Suction could be stronger on carpet – Shorter runtime than rival vacuums

If you’re on a budget but still want a cordless cleaner that gets the job done well, the Roidmi R10 is worth considering. It may not rival the Dyson V15 Detect when it comes to suction power but we were still impressed with its dust pick-up on hard floors.

There are some compromises to keep the price tag affordable of this model, which was previously called the Roidmi S1E. The 40-minute runtime is shorter than other cordless vacuums on the market, and it struggled to deep clean carpet. However, while its decibel levels are similar to other cordless vacuums, its softer tone feels less intrusive, and you can chat while cleaning without having to shout.

This cordless vacuum cleaner is easy to use in both stick cleaner or handheld mode, and lightweight. And, it comes with a good selection of tools, including a motorized mattress brush to make upholstery cleaning easy.

3. Miele Triflex HX1 Cat & Dog The best cordless vacuum for pet hair Specifications Power supply: Cordless Weight: 4kg Bin size: 0.5L Run time: Up to 60 minutes specifications Colour Black Condition New Today’s Best Deals View at Amazon (opens in new tab) Reasons to buy + Powerful suction + Can be used as a stick vacuum or a handheld cleaner + Swappable battery means fewer interruptions to your cleaning Reasons to avoid – Expensive compared to the rest of the market – Heavy to use as a handheld cleaner

After a vacuum cleaner that will collect the hair, your furry friends have shed around your home? Look no further than the Miele Triflex HX1. During testing, we were impressed at its suction power, which matched the Dyson V15 Detect, while the additional pet hair tool ensured there wasn’t a scrap of pet hair left on our floors.

It comes with a hefty price tag, but has LEDs on the cleaning head, making it easier to see the dirt you’re collecting in awkward spaces. We were also impressed the main unit can be moved closer to the cleaner head converting it into a cordless upright cleaner. Not only does this make the cordless vacuum easier to maneuver, but it also ensures it can be left free-standing. The battery lasts up to 60 minutes between charges and is swappable to reduce the interruptions to your cleaning session.

The Miele Triflex HX1 can also be converted into a handheld mode. However, we found it heavy to use in this mode.

4. Dyson Omni-glide The best cordless vacuum for hardwood floors Specifications Power supply: Cordless Weight: 1.9kg Bin size: 0.02L Run-time: Up to 20 minutes Today’s Best Deals View at Bed Bath & Beyond (opens in new tab) View at Best Buy (opens in new tab) View at Target (opens in new tab) Reasons to buy + Powerful suction + Dual soft brush bar protect hard floors + Can be steered in any direction Reasons to avoid – Only suitable for hard floors – Expensive compare to the rest of the market

For homes kitted out solely with hard floors, the Dyson Omni-glide is the best cordless vacuum you can buy. With not one, but two soft brush bars, it ensures you can vacuum your home faster than ever without damaging the hard flooring. And we found dust and dirt pick up to be very effective during testing.

Released just days after the V15 Detect Absolute (above) the Omni-glide can lie flat on the floor so it can be easily maneuvered under low-lying furniture, while four 360-degree castors on the bottom of the cleaning head ensure the vacuum can be steered in any direction. It can even lie flat.

The Dyson Omni-glide can only last for 20 minutes between charges, although the battery, which is housed inside the vacuum’s handle, is swappable. This did mean, however, during testing we found the vacuum cumbersome to use in handheld mode.

The Omni-glide is one of Dyson’s more affordable vacuums. But, it’s still pricey compared to the rest of the market, especially when you consider it can’t be used on carpet.

5. Dyson V11 Outsize The best cordless vacuum for large homes Specifications Power supply: Cordless Weight: 3.5kg Bin size: 1.9L Run time: Up to 60 minutes specifications Colour Red Condition New Today’s Best Deals View at Amazon (opens in new tab) View at Bed Bath & Beyond (opens in new tab) View at Amazon (opens in new tab) Reasons to buy + Powerful suction + Much larger bin + Wider cleaning head speeds up vacuuming Reasons to avoid – Most expensive vacuum we’ve tested – Cumbersome to use in handheld mode

The best cordless vacuum with a large dust canister is a must if you have a big home, and the Dyson V11 Outsize really fits the bill here. The 1.9-liter dust canister holds 150% more debris than the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute (above) and means you shouldn’t have to empty it too often. The cleaning head is also wider than usual, which means you’ll be able to cover more ground than with a standard cordless cleaner and is another feature that makes it well suited to larger homes.

In our tests its powerful suction meant it collected discarded biscuit crumbs, ground-in dirt, and even cereal and cat biscuits with ease. However, this is the most expensive vacuum we’ve tested, putting it out of reach of some, and we found the larger size made the vacuum cumbersome to use in handheld mode.

6. Shark WandVac A particularly good cordless vacuum for small spills Specifications Power supply: Cordless Weight: 3kg Bin size: 0.25L Run-time: 16 minutes Today’s Best Deals View at Amazon (opens in new tab) View at Best Buy (opens in new tab) View at The Home Depot (opens in new tab) Reasons to buy + Lightweight + Strong suction + Easy to empty Reasons to avoid – Short battery life – Small dust cup

A compact and lightweight cordless vacuum that’s close to hand is ideal for quickly and efficiently cleaning up small spills, and the Shark WandVac really fits the bill for this type of device.

Simple to use, during testing it collected fine dust from hard floors and carpets with ease, although for larger debris, we found it required several sweeps to scoop up all of the mess. It can be used either as a stick vacuum, or in handheld mode. The dust canister is smaller than average, so will need to be emptied more frequently, but we found it was easy to empty.

The Shark WandVac is loud in use and the runtime is around a quarter of that offered by rival cordless cleaners. So, it’s the best cordless vacuum for quick clean ups rather than a deep whole house clean.

7. Dyson Cyclone V10 The best affordable cordless vacuum cleaner from Dyson Specifications Power: Cordless Weight: 2.6kg Bin size: 0.75L Run time: Up to 60 minutes specifications Colour Pink, Purple, Red Condition New, Refurbished Today’s Best Deals View at Amazon (opens in new tab) View at Best Buy (opens in new tab) View at Dyson Inc. (opens in new tab) Reasons to buy + Simple to use + Powerful suction + Converts into a handheld cleaner Reasons to avoid – Battery drains fast on highest setting – Can’t automatically adjust usction power

The predecessor to Dyson’s V11 range, the Dyson V10 cyclone offers impressive cleaning power but at a slightly more affordable price, although not quite as competitive as other models on the market.

It’s on par with the V11 when it comes to cleaning performance. In our tests we found that on both carpets and hard floors it did a sterling job of sucking up fine dust, pet hair, and even larger debris such as cereal and cat litter.

The dust bin size and up-to 60-minute runtime match the V11, though do be aware that if you push it to its most powerful suction settings that figure drops dramatically. It can be converted into a handheld cleaner like other Dyson cordless vacuums.

At full power, it doesn’t last quite as long as the V11 either, and it doesn’t have the ability to automatically adjust the suction power to suit the floor type you’re cleaning. There’s no LCD display either, but it is lighter and cheaper.

8. Shark Anti Hair Wrap Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner with PowerFins & Flexology IZ300 Particularly good reach under low furniture Specifications Power: Cordless Weight: 4.58kg Bin size: 0.7L Run time: Up to 60 minutes specifications Condition New Today’s Best Deals View at Target (opens in new tab) Check Amazon (opens in new tab) Reasons to buy + Flexible for reaching under furniture + Powerful suction Reasons to avoid – Heavy – Noisy in use – Flicked around large debris on hard floor

Struggle with hair wrapped around your vacuum’s brush roller? The Shark Anti Hair Wrap Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner with PowerFins & Flexology may be the answer.

This vacuum, which is called the Shark Vertex Pro Lightweight Cordless Stick Vacuum with DuoClean PowerFins (IZ662H) in the US, features Anti Hair Wrap technology that prevents hair from getting tangled up, so you no longer have to spend hours picking out the strands yourself.

On test, we were impressed with the suction power. The main ‘stick’ of the cordless vacuum is bendable which makes it much easier to clean under furniture and in tight spaces, too.

Heavier than of the best cordless vacuums on this list, it’s one of the noisiest vacuums we’ve tested, and the wheels on the back of the cleaner head flicked some of the oats around rather than collecting them when we tested it on hard floor. This meant we had to make several passes to ensure the mess was cleared.

How to choose the best cordless vacuum for you

With such a wide array of cordless vacuums on the market, choosing the right one might feel like an overwhelming task. However, if you focus on these considerations you’ll quickly be able to identify the model that’s best suited to you.

Start by checking how long the battery will last between charges and whether it’s swappable, so that if the battery runs out of power mid-clean, you don’t have to wait for the vacuum to recharge before you can carry on. Similarly, the size of the dust canister will also affect how many interruptions there are to your cleaning session. If you have a bigger house, look for models with larger than usual dust cups.

If you have hard floors, look for a cordless vacuum that comes with a dedicated cleaner head, which has a softer brush roll to ensure the flooring isn’t damaged when vacuuming.

Also, check the vacuum will be able to reach under furniture and in any tight spaces, you have in your home to ensure you’re thoroughly cleaning your floors every time you push a vacuum around.

If you’ve got furry friends, you’ll be pleased to know, there are plenty of models designed to suck up pet hair from your floors as well as your soft-furnishings. Cordless vacuums are designed to be on hand whenever you need them but how often you should vacuum will depend on how many people and pets are in your house as well as how much you’re at home.

If you’re still unsure, read our advice on which type of vacuum should you buy and read our comparison of canister vs upright vacuums.

How we test cordless vacuum cleaners

To find the best cordless vacuum cleaner, we evaluate how successfully each model collects everything from fine dust and dirt to larger debris such as cookie crumbs and cereal. As well as assessing how well floors are cleaned, we’ve also compared how easy the vacuum cleaners are to maneuver on carpet and hard floors, as well as whether dust pick up is evenly distributed across the cleaning head, or concentrated in one area.

We rated each design on how durable it is, as well as simplicity of emptying, how loud it is during use and how long the battery lasts. For each model we wanted to know whether it was easy to convert into other modes; such as a handheld vac, the useful tools and accessories it came with to clean edges or remove pet hair, and that it didn’t require reading a thick instruction manual before use.

Is Shark better than Dyson? Shark and Dyson are two of the biggest brands in the cordless vacuum market right now. They seem evenly matched when it comes to suction power, but Shark’s designs are slightly more affordable than Dyson’s models, which may leave you wondering if Shark is better than Dyson? To keep the price tag low, Shark’s vacuums are not as sleek and stylish as Dyson’s. They’re often heavier too, and while they come with useful technology such as the ability to stop hair getting tangled around the brush air, and flexible wands to ensure you can clean in hard-to-reach places, they’re not as high-tech as Dyson’s offering. For example, the Dyson V15 Detect, which is the brand’s latest top-of-the-range cordless vacuum comes with a laser built-into the floor cleaning head to highlight hidden dust, ensuring your home is thoroughly cleaned. They also have longer-lasting batteries than Shark’s models too. So are Shark vacuums better than Dyson? It very much depends on the layout of your home, your budget and the types of surfaces you want to clean. Read our Shark vs Dyson article for a more in-depth look at the two floor-cleaning brands.

How to vacuum properly Surely using a vacuum cleaner isn’t rocket science, right? However, many of us could be wasting effort by not vacuuming in the correct way. Whizzing around your floors as fast as you can is fine for a quick clean before guests come over, but it’s not going to be enough to clean your floors thoroughly each time. When you want to give your flooring a deep clean, start at the edges of the room using a crevice tool. Work your way around the room slowly swiping the crevice tool in side-to-side motions so that it picks up the dust that has settled next to your baseboards. Once you’ve done the edges of the room, use your vacuum’s normal floor head and work back and forth slowly across the room. Repeat the same motions in the opposite direction across the floor so that nothing is left behind. We’ve got plenty more tips and handy hacks for making sure your vacuum performs as well as possible in our feature on how to vacuum like a pro.

Are cordless vacuums worth it? Cordless vacuums have come a long way in recent years and these appliances can now rival the power and performance of premium upright and canister vacuums. With many models suitable for use as a handheld vacuum too, cordless vacuum cleaners now leave little to be desired and can be used as your sole vacuum, rather than as a handy extra to a bulkier upright model. The downside, of course, is that you have to charge cordless vacuums but many are now available with a second battery, and with up to 60-minutes run time, it’s likely you’ll be able to make it around your home on a single charge (unless your house is very large).

Bagged vs bagless vacuums Unsure whether a bagged vacuum or a bagless vacuum is a better choice? When it comes to suction power, the pair are evenly matched and will make light work of collecting fine dust and debris from hard floors. Bagged vacuums are easier to empty, which makes them a better choice for allergy sufferers. The dirt is contained in the bag, which should just be lifted out of the vacuum and placed straight in the garbage. Unlike bagless vacuums, there’s little chance of some of the dust and dander making its way into the hair. However, a bagged vacuum can work out more expensive in the long term, as you need to purchase replacement bags for the appliance. It’s also harder to know when the bag needs replacing, as some models only have a tiny indicator that may not be visible at quick glance. Whereas with bagless vacuums, the dust canister is usually made of clear plastic so it’s easy to see when it needs emptying. Bagless vacuums are also a more eco-friendly choice as well as currently vacuum bags aren’t biodegradable.

Are cordless vacuums as good as corded? Cordless vacuums have been available for more than two decades, and while the early models were not as good when it came to dust pick up, that’s no longer the case. Many of the cordless vacuums on the market are as comparable, and in some cases better, to corded vacuums when it comes to collecting dust and dander from carpets and hard floors. They’re more versatile than corded vacuums too, as they can be converted into lightweight, handheld cleaners that are suitable for use on upholstery, up high, and even in vehicles. However, there is one area where they struggle to match corded vacuums, and that’s the capacity of the dust canister. On average, cordless vacuums have dust canisters with a capacity of anywhere between 0.2 and 0.75 liters, whereas traditional corded vacuums, whether it’s an upright or a canister, have a capacity of anywhere between 1 and 2 liters. The only exception is the Dyson V11 Outsize, which has a 1.9-liter capacity. However, it’s also extremely expensive compared to other cordless vacuums and much bulkier.

The 7 Best Cordless Vacuums – Summer 2022 Reviews

A good cordless vacuum is a helpful addition to any household cleaning arsenal. When you don’t need to worry about staying in range of an outlet, it’s easy to clean small, out-of-the-way areas not only inside your home but also in tighter spaces like car interiors. You also don’t have to worry about a power cord getting snagged on a piece of furniture and bringing a frustrating pause to your cleaning session. However, despite recent strides in extending overall battery life, a cordless vacuum still can’t offer the worry-free indefinite runtime of a corded vacuum. For many, however, this trade-off is worth the near-infinite range that these appliances have. We’ve tested over 120 vacuum cleaners, and below are our recommendations for the best cordless vacuums to buy. We selected these picks based on their performance on different surface types and their feature set, battery life, and price. For more options, look at our lists of the best vacuums, our best cordless stick vacuums, and the best vacuums for high-pile carpet.

Samsung Jet 90 review

For everyday cleaning at home, the Samsung Jet 90 holds its own, tackling floor tiles, carpets, and rugs with sufficient vigor. It’s got enough attachments to get to dust in any corner of your home, provided you can get all your cleaning done within a single battery charge. One minute review Samsung may be a brand more familiar with large appliances, such as refrigerators and washing machines, but the tech behemoth also offers a small range of floor care appliances too. As well as robot vacuums, Samsung also offers an array of some of the best cordless vacuum cleaners – the latest of which is the Samsung Jet 90. This sleek model comes with a variety of attachments to attack dust on any floor or surface and can be neatly stored away on its stand when not in use. It’s got plenty of suction power, capable of hoovering up cereal bits, hair, sand, and even sucking out dirt that’s hiding away deep in carpets, making it one of the best vacuums cleaners we’ve tested. It’s easy to maneuver into most corners and under furniture, and the range handy attachments ensure it can reach blinds, bookcases, and ceiling corners. Samsung Jet 90 at Appliances Connection for $130.99 (opens in new tab) The battery lasts up to 45 minutes between charges when used on a combination of the lowest and medium power settings. The battery is swappable too, which means that you can have a second one charging on standby to quickly swap over to, so your cleaning routine isn’t interrupted. Its dust bin isn’t as smooth to remove as on other cordless vacuums we’ve tested, such as the Dyson V15 Detect, and requires a few clicks to disconnect from the main body and empty into a bin. You could, of course, opt for Samsung’s Clean Station which empties it much more effectively, but that’s an added cost that very few users will find truly useful. That said, the Samsung Jet 90 is an easy to use cordless vacuum cleaner that is effective at collecting dust and debris from hard floors and carpets. Samsung Jet 90 price and availability List price: $649 / £549 / AU$999 The Samsung Jet 90 cordless vacuum cleaner, which is known as the Samsung Jet 90 Pet in the UK, is priced at $649 / £549 / AU$999 and is available now from Samsung. Additional batteries will set you back $150 / £149 / AU$249. This is slightly more affordable than Dyson’s latest cordless vacuum, the V15 Detect, which will set you back $699.99 / £599.99 / AU$1,399. Design 0.21 gallon / 0.8 liter dust bin Comes with five additional tools Includes standing charging stand The Jet 90 is quite sleek, and has a mostly heavy-duty plastic body all over. It doesn’t have a trigger handle for operation, but a simple on/off button at the top, flanked by two additional buttons to adjust suction power between low, medium, and turbo. Weighing in at around 6.87 lb / 2.8kg, it’s on par with the weight of other similar vacuum cleaners on the market, though it’s still easy to maneuver on the floor and around tight furniture. (Image credit: Future) Simple LEDs illuminate the current suction power, as well as indicating if there’s a problem with the roller head or filter. There’s also another LED that indicates when the optional spinning sweeper attachment is being used, which can be purchased separately for $129.99 / £89 / AU$149. Battery life is indicated by three solid LEDs on the battery itself, which blink while recharging on the base station. (Image credit: Future) The 0.21-gallon / 0.8-liter dust bin sits in parallel with the telescopic pipe, allowing for maximum airflow. The bin is large enough to handle a thorough cleaning session, and the nine cyclone chambers within help to maximize suction power while removing dust and debris. The five-step suction process is able to remove even ultra-fine dust particles, ensuring that expelled air is clean and pollutant-free, while the bin and microfilter are washable, too. Samsung says that the motor and cyclones are designed in such a way that they keep less dust from accumulating on the filters, so there’s a lower chance of clogging during use. (Image credit: Future) There are a variety of attachments with the Jet 90, which are great for multiple cleaning scenarios. The Turbo Action Brush is a great all-purpose cleaning head, which has stiff bristles that are great for digging up dirt from carpets as well as between floor tiles. The Soft Action Brush is more suited for hardwood floors or for tiles that are more delicate, and is good at picking up dust and smaller debris. Both the Turbo Action Brush and Soft Action Brush come apart with a simple click, in case you need to clean them further. The Mini Motorized Tool is great for when you want to vacuum furniture or the top of counters, while a Crevice tool and Combination tool lets you grab dust that’s hiding in corners, blinds, and other hard to reach areas. You also have a swivel attachment that lets you clean on top of cupboards or higher areas of your home. The cordless vacuum also comes with a handy charging stand that lets you stow the vacuum when not in use and make it easy to recharge the battery. (Image credit: Future) Performance Good suction power Can get stuck on certain carpets Converts in a handheld cleaner The Jet 90 did quite well in our test apartment, which contains a mixture of tiled floors, area rugs, and a low-pile carpeted room. It picked up cereal bits, biscuit crumbs, pet hair, and a considerable amount of dust, even while on the lowest suction setting. Cranking this up to medium pulled more sand and dust from carpets, though we have to point out that if you hold the Turbo Action Brush on one area of carpet for too long, it eventually stop spinning after a few seconds and the vacuum throws up an error. You’ll then have to switch it off and on again in order to resume cleaning. The telescopic pole allows up to four adjustments in length, ranging from 93cm all the way up to 114cm to make for comfortable use and navigation. (Image credit: Future) When used as a handheld vacuum the Jet 90 continued to do well – we were able to dig into our couch to suck up bits of stale popcorn, more pet hair, and dust. The Jet 90 doesn’t feel too cumbersome to hold when used in this mode, and attachments are easy to swap around as necessary. It’s also handy to use in your car, though it can be a bit of a challenge to try and vacuum under seats – we would only use this on the floor carpets and seats themselves to pick up debris. Noise levels from the Jet 90 are not too bad when used on the first two power settings, but crank it up to Turbo and it feels (and sounds) like you’ve got a mini-hurricane in your hand. (Image credit: Future) The dust bin itself can be removed by pressing the button in the front, after which you twist the top filter off and then empty the contents of the bin into your trash can. It’s not as easy to empty as the quick-release system we’ve seen on Dyson’s vacuum cleaners, and there is a possibility of dust from the bin flying out if you empty it out too vigorously. Samsung’s solution to this is the Clean Station, which we’ll look at later on. (Image credit: Future) One thing we have to point out about the Jet 90 is its base station. While it provides a handy spot to park the Jet 90 and charge it, the whole structure takes up quite a bit of space, and has to be set up permanently next to a power socket. (Image credit: Future) This sadly isn’t something you can easily hide in a cupboard somewhere – you’ll want to position this somewhere the Jet 90 can recharge undisturbed while not being a visual distraction to your living space. The base station also only includes holders for just two attachments – everything else will have to be stored somewhere else until you need it. Battery Life Battery lasts up to 60 minutes Full recharge takes 3.5 hours Additional battery can be charged at the base station (Image credit: Future) Samsung says that the Jet 90 can last up to 60 minutes of cleaning time, but there are a number of caveats to that claim. You’ll only get that kind of cleaning time if you’re running it on the lowest power setting, and without a motorized brush head. For regular use on a combination of the low and medium power settings with the Turbo Action Brush attached, we clocked just under 42 minutes of battery time. When we ran it at Turbo speed with a full battery, the Jet 90 lasted 10 minutes and 22 seconds. Recharge time is around 3.5 hours, which is a lot of time to wait for if your Jet 90 runs out of juice in the middle of a particularly busy cleaning schedule. Luckily, the base station has a slot to charge a spare battery, so providing you purchase an additional battery, you can simply swap it out for a new one and pick up where you left off. Samsung Clean Station Quickly cleans out the Jet 90 dustbin Requires proprietary trash bags Priced at $199 / £179 / AU$299 (Image credit: Samsung) For anyone who’s not a fan of how the Jet 90’s bin is emptied or has severe dust allergies, Samsung also has the Clean Station which can be purchased separately. Priced at $199 / £179 / AU$299, it’s a sleek and tall device that serves one purpose – to hygienically clean out your Jet 90 dustbin. Operating it is simple – just lift up the top lid, place your Jet 90 dust bin on top, hit the Start button, and the Clean Station sucks out all the dirt and dust without anything escaping. The dirt is then funneled into a disposable bag that sits hidden inside the Clean Station, which you can throw out when it becomes full after a few emptying cycles. While this is great for people who really don’t want to have any dust flying anywhere when cleaning the dust bin, it presents its own set of challenges. Here’s yet another thing you’ll have to set up and leave plugged in somewhere in your house, probably right next to the Jet 90. Secondly, you’re reliant on the specially made trash bins from Samsung, so that’s one more thing that you’ll have to keep buying. For most people, the Clean Station may seem like an unnecessary purchase, and will have no issue emptying the bin into a regular trash can. For others that are more particular, the Clean Station attempts to solve a problem that may only be present in very special scenarios. Should I buy the Samsung Jet 90? (Image credit: Future) Buy it if… You want plenty of attachments The Jet 90 comes with all the necessary tools to track down hidden dust and dirt in your home, so you can tackle pretty much any surface or area with ease. You want an adjustable vacuum The telescopic pole is a great addition for taller users, who no longer have to stoop over when vacuuming with the Jet 90. You need to clean in a hurry What’s great about the Jet 90 is that it’s easy to grab from its stand if you want to quickly clean a room or spot without having to struggle with a bulky vacuum cleaner. Don’t buy it if… You want to hide it away The Jet 90’s charging station needs a permanent home in your space, and sadly won’t be able to be hidden away unless you’ve got a power socket in your storage cupboard. You’ve got a big home If you can get all of your vacuuming done in under 40 minutes, then you’ll be fine – any more time than that and you’ll have to splurge for a second battery to keep the cleaning going. You want an easier emptying bin The dust bin on the Jet 90 can be a bit cumbersome to empty out, and the only alternative would be to also buy the Clean Station to accompany it. Best Cordless Vacuum of 2022

Vacuuming is a bit of a hassle, but a traditional corded vacuum makes it much harder than it needs to be. And once you’ve made the switch, it’ll be hard to believe that you used to live without one. They offer all the convenience of a handheld vacuum while maintaining the cleaning ability and powerful suction of a corded vacuum. The best cordless vacuums are also versatile: Most can handle different types of flooring, from a hardwood floor to a thick carpet, from a bare floor of linoleum to tile, both because they’re easy to maneuver and because of their suction power. When we tested vacuum cleaners, we put them through a rigorous series of floor-care tests on hardwood floor and other bare floor types, carpet and other surfaces. The process took over 150 hours to complete. It also consumed many pounds of sand and rice, plus hundreds of handfuls of pet hair. Based on that, we’ve determined that the products in this roundup are our picks for the best cordless vacuum for 2022. Keep checking back, because we update this best cordless vacuum list periodically. Read more: Best Robot Vacuums for 2022: Roomba, Neato and More Best cordless vacuums in 2022 Brian Bennett/CNET Say hello to Dyson’s latest and greatest stick vac, the $750 Dyson V15. As the company’s flagship cordless vacuum, the V15 has a sky-high price to match. It’s by far the most expensive machine in our test group. Like its predecessor the V11, the V15 ripped through our suite of vacuum cleaner tests with ruthless competence. This cordless stick vacuum didn’t just outperform competitors from other brands. The V15 demonstrated more suction power than the Dyson V11, the previous cordless vacuum champion. The V15 also achieved these cleaning performance results on our most difficult trial, sand. It was able to remove 88.4% of test sand we placed on midpile carpeting. The V11 managed 71.6% on the same test. More impressively, the V15 pulled 95.3% of sand particles we dropped onto low-pile carpeting. That’s a lot better than the 78.4% the V11 was able to muster here. The V15 wasn’t fazed by pet hair either. No matter if it was vacuuming across hardwood, low-pile, or midpile carpeting, the V15 barely left a tuft in its wake. A few other features help set the V15 Detect apart. One is the vacuum’s Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head. Designed for hard flooring, it shines a green laser out onto the floor ahead as you clean. Its purpose is to highlight dust and other small bits of debris otherwise hard to spot with the naked eye. The system does work and we observed plenty of dirt we’d normally miss. One drawback though is that the laser isn’t visible under strong indoor lighting or sunlight. Also interesting is a readout on the back of the vacuum. This report lists the ratio of dirt collected by particle size. Other than that, and a battery that’s easier to remove, the D15’s bagless vacuum design remains much the same. That’s a good thing, since we found both models’ dustbins easy to empty. Bundled with the vacuum are seven different cleaning attachments, including the Laser Slim Fluffy. You also get a High Torque cleaner head, a Hair screw tool and crevice tool, just to name a few. All this adds up to why the Dyson V15 Detect is currently the best cordless vacuum cleaner around, if spending lots of money is no barrier. Read more about the Dyson V15. Brian Bennett/CNET As the second-best performer in our current test group, the Tineco A11 Hero represents an outstanding deal. So much so that it has officially bumped the Shark Rocket Pet Pro Cordless out of our top pick for best midrange cordless vacuum. With an average 72.5% sand pickup from midpile carpeting, and 82.5% sand removal from low-pile carpet, the Hero performs better. This cordless stick vac also costs less than the Shark, a fact that’s hard to overlook. The A11 Hero tackled pet hair without too much trouble as well. Barely a trace of the material remained after the machine vacuumed midpile carpeting and hardwood floors. The Hero left some strands visible when traveling across our low-pile test carpet. Midpile carpeting usually causes vacuums more problems. The design of the Hero isn’t too shabby either. Its dustbin is almost as easy to empty as the Rocket Pet Pro. The bin’s release valve is tricky to engage compared with Shark’s model. That said, its battery pack is removable. There’s also a handy trigger lock lever to keep the vacuum running without constant finger pressure. You can save $40 at Amazon by activating the instant coupon on the product page. Chris Monroe/CNET Moosoo isn’t exactly a household name. Nevertheless, the Moosoo XL-618A cordless vacuum packs a respectable punch, considering its low price. Despite costing much less than competing cordless vacuum cleaner options, the M X6 was the fourth-best performer in our test group of eight models. The stick vac picked up 99% (on average) of our test sand from hardwood. On low-pile carpet, that figure sank to 41.3%. The M X6 fared better across thicker midpile carpet, earning a higher sand pickup average of 52.2%. Black rice, our large particle test soil, was a breeze for the Moosoo vacuum. It managed pickup averages above 90% on hardwood, low-pile and midpile carpet (95.4%, 96.8% and 94%, respectively). Don’t buy the Moosoo XL-618A if you’re a pet owner, though. At least some visible dander remained after vacuuming, no matter the test surface. The brush roll tends to wrap strands of hair around itself as well. If you want cordless vacuuming on a tight budget, however, do consider the Moosoo XL-618A. This cordless stick vacuum cleaner just does what you need, and for much less cash than many models. Chris Monroe/CNET If you’d like to own a Dyson vacuum but you’d rather not spend top dollar, consider the Dyson V8 Absolute hand vac. This step-down cordless model is a few years old, but it still has powerful suction and performs like a champ. On our floor-cleaning tests, the V8 came in a respectable third. In our test group, only the Dyson V11 and Shark Rocket Pet Pro scoured floors better than the V8. On a hard floor, the vacuum managed to pick up an average of 98% of the sand we dropped. For low-pile carpet, that average fell to 68.3%. The average slipped further across midpile carpet, though remained at a respectable 52%. Pet hair didn’t faze the V8 hand vacuum much either. The stick vacuum pulled hair away from midpile and low-pile carpets completely. It did fail to remove a small amount of dander on hardwood. Additionally, some fibers became wrapped around the vacuum’s brush roll. But the washable filter was handy. And like the V11 Torque Drive, the V8 Absolute upright vacuum comes with a generous assortment of add-ons. That includes gadgets for dusting, a crevice tool for reaching into narrow areas, a soft cleaning head for bare floors, a motorized brush roll for grabbing ground-in dirt and debris and a docking station for charging the battery. So for those who’d like to own a Dyson-brand stick vac for a little less cash, the V8 Absolute is worth a look. Read our Dyson V8 hands-on first take. How we test cordless vacuums Putting cordless vacuums through their paces isn’t as complicated as testing a robot vacuum cleaner, but it still takes lots of time and careful effort to find the best cordless vacuum. We hauled in 10 of the latest models from leading vacuum brands with high user ratings and reviews, and ran them through a series of tests designed to measure overall proficiency. We also tested cordless vacuums in a range of prices to see how much of a difference you can expect when you opt for a pricier model over a budget pick. Testing cordless vacuums on different flooring We run each vacuum in a straight line across three different surfaces (hardwood, low-pile carpet and midpile carpet). On all three test beds, the test area is 30.25 inches long. The width of the test bed is proportional to the vacuum’s nozzle width. We measure this width ourselves. We also use nozzle width, plus the flooring type, to calculate the soil density for each test, per International Electrotechnical Commission guidelines. The IEC is a global standards body responsible for managing testing procedures, among other things, for vacuum manufacturers. Enlarge Image Tyler Lizenby/CNET Testing the cleaning ability of each cordless vacuum We use three types of soil. To simulate small particle size, we use a mix of play sand and landscaping sand. To emulate larger dirt particles, we use uncooked black rice. To see how vacuums deal with pet hair, we use our mixture of clippings sourced to us through our local pet groomer. Brian Bennett/CNET We perform three runs (at minimum) on each floor type. We also test suction power with sand and rice separately. That comes to at least 18 tests per vacuum. We weigh the vacuum’s dust bin both before and after each run. We noted any vacuums with especially short battery life or a particularly heavy weight that might make them a less desirable option. Cordless vacuum battery life and runtime Most of the vacuums on our list feature a runtime of 40 minutes before needing another charge. The was the exception with a full 60 minutes of runtime. In truth, it’s a rare occasion that one would need more than 40 minutes of runtime for a single vacuuming session. Because of this, battery life was not weighted as heavily as other features. Cordless vacuum weight, size and bin capacity All of the cordless vacuums were between 4 and 6 pounds, but none were so heavy that it affected our recommendation. All of the vacuums on this list were also very similar in height and overall size. The Dyson models are both roughly 49 inches while the is shorter at just 43 inches tall. The Dysons and Tineco all have bin volumes of about 0.6 liters. Our budget pick, the , has double that capacity (1.3 liters) so you’ll need to empty the bin less often. Cordless vacuum warranties The standard warranty for cordless vacuums is a two-year limited warranty and each vacuum on this list meets that standard. In general, you should expect your cordless vacuum to last longer than two years but it’s nice to have a backup plan in case something breaks within that time frame. Other cordless vacuums we tested that didn’t make the cut Here’s a list of the other cordless stick vacuums we tested besides the models we’ve recommended above. Why you should trust us Our team of CNET experts, editors and lab technicians has been testing vacuums in a smart home and testing warehouse located in Louisville, Kentucky, for over 10 years. In that time, we’ve refined our testing methods and assessments in a controlled environment to measure the proficiency of robot vacuums, full-sized models and cordless stick vacuums alike. For more check out this detailed article on how we test vacuums at CNET. Which cordless vacuum has the most suction power? Right now, based on our tests, the cordless vacuum with the best suction power is the Dyson V15 Detect. It removed the most sand, rice and pet hair out of all the stick vac cleaners we’ve evaluated so far. And it did so across multiple floor types. Are pricey Dyson vacuums worth the money? One company, in particular, saw this cordless trend coming. British company Dyson was the first to pioneer this field with a series of capable — yet pricey — Cyclone V series stick vacs designed with impressive suction and cleaning power to leave the competition in the dust. Rivals have since followed suit and now sell cordless vacuums of their own. Some manufacturers of cordless vacuum cleaners have even shamelessly cloned Dyson products. Others are distinctive new riffs on the cordless vacuum, with innovative dust-busting features all their own. Despite the many knockoffs, Dyson vacs still perform at a higher level than other brands, in our experience. Perhaps it’s the head start it’s had in refining these smaller machines or the extensive research and development that goes into making them. Dysons are pricey, but worth the money if you have it to spend. If not, there are plenty of cheaper cordless vacuums that will do the job and keep your home clean. How long should a cordless vacuum last? Each of the cordless vacuums on our list includes a two-year limited warranty but a quality model should last you significantly longer than that. That said, cordless vacuums do take a beating and you shouldn’t expect any model to last much longer than five years if used regularly. This is certainly something to consider when selecting a model. Having your vacuum serviced after the warranty has expired may not also be worth the money, depending on the particular issue. To suss out any potential lemons, we dig through buyer reviews on multiple retailers to see if any vacuum brands or models have consistent breakage issues, either with the motor or external parts. LG CordZero A9 Kompressor (A927KGMS) vs Samsung Jet 90 Complete

Analysis: The Samsung Jet 90 Complete was loved by reviewers at Rtings, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. As for our analysis of the LG CordZero A9 Kompressor (A927KGMS) – it’s considered to be a great product by two reliable sources that do their own hands-on testing – it earned the “Best Stick Vacuum with Longest Runtime” award from Good Housekeeping and “Ranked 3 out of 9” from Reviewed, which is no small feat.
