AT The CROSS Her STATION KEEPING or in Latin Stabat Mater is a Lent Stations of the Cross sing along song with Lyrics and Words or text sung for each station.
At The Cross Her Station Keeping:
1 At the cross her station keeping,
Stood the mournful Mother weeping,
Close to Jesus to the last.
2 Through her heart, his sorrow sharing,
All his bitter anguish bearing,
Now at length the sword has passed.
3 Oh, how sad and sore distressed
Was that Mother highly blest
Of the sole begotten One!
4 Christ above in torment hangs;
She beneath beholds the pangs
Of her dying, glorious Son.
5 Is there one who would not weep,
‘Whelmed in miseries so deep,
Christ’s dear Mother to behold?
6 Can the human heart refrain
From partaking in her pain,
In that Mother’s pain untold?
7 Bruised, derided, cursed, defiled,
She beheld her tender Child,
All with bloody scourges rent.
8 For the sins of his own nation,
Saw him hang in desolation
Till his spirit forth he sent.
9 O sweet Mother! fount of love,
Touch my spirit from above,
Make my heart with yours accord.
10 Make me feel as you have felt;
Make my soul to glow and melt
With the love of Christ, my Lord.
11 Holy Mother, pierce me through,
In my heart each wound renew
Of my Savior crucified.
12 Let me share with you his pain,
Who for all our sins was slain,
Who for me in torments died.
13 Let me mingle tears with thee,
Mourning him who mourned for me,
All the days that I may live:
14 By the cross with you to stay,
There with you to weep and pray,
This I ask of you to give.
15. Virgin of all virgins blessed
Listen to my fond request
Let me share my grief divine

The version presented here is an adaptation of a translation by English clergyman Edward Casswall (1814-1878), to fit the 887 meter of the original text.

What do we remember when we pray the Stations of the Cross?

Praying the Stations of the Cross is a traditional way of praying during Lent. We pray this familiar prayer to be with Jesus Christ, who walked this journey carrying the cross, the instrument of his death, out of love and commitment to us.

Who wrote the gospel song at the cross?

“Glory to His Name” (also called “Down At The Cross”) is a hymn written by Elisha A. Hoffman in 1878. It is thought that Hoffman was reading about the crucifixion of Jesus in the Bible and began to think about how God saved men from their sins by allowing Jesus to die on the cross.

When was the hymn near the Cross written?

“Near the Cross”, alternatively titled “Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross” or “In the Cross”, is a Christian hymn written by Fanny Crosby and published in 1869.

What do you say at the Stations of the Cross?

We adore you oh Christ and we praise you, for by your holy cross you have redeemed the world. St. Alphonsus de Liguori wrote this prayer, along with a popular series of meditations on the stations.

What is the opening prayer of the Stations of the Cross?

Jesus Lord, condemned, defiled, May we too be meek and mild As we tread your holy Way. May we feel no bitter hatred, When we too are persecuted, Left alone to walk with You. THE FIRST STATION – Jesus is condemned to death Pr: We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You.

What does each station of the cross mean?

1st Station: Jesus is condemned to death. 2nd Station: Jesus takes up his Cross. 3rd Station: Jesus falls for the first time. 4th Station: Jesus meets his Mother. 5th Station: Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus carry the Cross.

What does your love ran red mean?

“When we were writing the song, it was the line, ‘Where your love ran red and my sin washed white’ — it just knocked me out. It was such a simple way of sharing the Gospel. It’s such a beautiful word picture of what Jesus has done for us. I feel like you can really see it.”

Who wrote Alas and Did My Savior Bleed lyrics?

The author of this song is none other than the famous hymn writer, Isaac Watts (1674 – 1748). Isaac Watts was a minister of the word of God and authored poems and hymns to go with his sermons. He grew up as a member of a group of Christians who were called non-conformist or Dissenters.

What does it mean to say Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross?

Christ calls us to follow Him in cross-bearing, in dying to ourselves, and in pursuing sacrifice as a strategic part of living out the gospel. That means that we can’t do God’s will if we still insist on our will.

What does Golden Strand mean?

Golden Strand is also known as Barnyagappul Strand with its name derived from the Gaelic Trá ‘Bhearna na gCapall’ meaning the strand of the gap of the horses. It refers to the times when horses were used to carry seaweed from the shore to local fields to use as fertilizer.

Who was near the cross?

All About Mary

Q: When Mary was standing near the cross and Jesus saw his mother and a disciple whom he loved standing next to her, he told his mother that she was now his mother and he her son.

Why do we pray the Stations of the Cross during Lent?

Prayerful meditation through the Stations of the Cross is especially common during Lent and on Fridays throughout the year, in commemoration of Christ’s Crucifixion on Good Friday. The devotion may be done individually or in a group and is particularly important in Roman Catholic, Anglican, and Lutheran traditions.

Why do we pray the Stations of the Cross during Lent for kids?

The Stations of the Cross is a form of prayer used traditionally in Lent. Each of the 14 Stations retells part of Jesus’ Passion (his suffering and death) through images and words. These Stations of the Cross introduce children to Jesus’ Passion, breaking it down into stages that they can reflect upon and remember.

Why do we do Way of Cross?

The object of the way of the Cross is to help the faithful to make in spirit, as it were, a pilgrimage to the chief scenes of Christ’s sufferings and death, and this has become one of the most popular of Catholic devotions.

What is the purpose of giving something up for Lent?

Why do people give things up until Easter Sunday? Millions of people do this during Lent as a sign of sacrifice and to test their self-discipline. Christians believe that this is to represent Jesus Christ’s sacrifice when he went into the desert to pray and fast for the 40 days before later dying on the cross.

Glory To His Name

Glory To His Name by Elisha Hoffman Elisha Hoffman Genre Hymn Written 1878 Based on Matthew 26:28 Meter 8.7.8.7 D

The poem Hoffman wrote based on these thoughts was called “Glory to His Name”. John Stockton, a musician and member of Hoffman’s church, set the poem to music.[citation needed]

Lyrics [ edit ]

Down at the cross where my Savior died, Down where for cleansing from sin I cried; There to my heart was the blood applied, Glory to His Name.

Refrain: Glory to His name, glory to His name; There to my heart was the blood applied, Glory to His name.

I am so wondrously saved from sin, Jesus so sweetly abides within; There at the cross where He took me in, Glory to His name.

(Refrain)

Oh, precious fountain that saves from sin, I am so glad I have entered in; There Jesus saves me and keeps me clean, Glory to His name.

(Refrain)

Come to this fountain so rich and sweet, Cast your poor soul at the Savior’s feet; Plunge in today, and be made complete; Glory to His name!

(Refrain)

Lyrics [ edit ]

Jesus, keep me near the cross;

There a precious fountain,

Free to all, a healing stream,

Flows from Calvary’s mountain.

Refrain: In the cross, in the cross,

Be my glory ever,

Till my raptured soul shall find

Rest beyond the river.

Near the cross, a trembling soul,

Love and mercy found me,

There the Bright and Morning Star

Shed its beams around me.

Near the cross! O Lamb of God,

Brings its scenes before me;

Help me walk from day to day,

With its shadows o’er me.

Near the cross I’ll watch and wait,

Hoping, trusting ever,

Till I reach the golden strand

Just beyond the river.

At The Cross Her Station Keeping (Caswall)

Prior to the Council of Trent, this hymn had been used as a sequence. Its use as a sequence hymn was suppressed at Trent, although it has subsequently found a place in the Liturgy of Hours as well as in popular devotion with the Stations of the Cross. Authorship is generally attributed to Jacopone da Todi, although Pope Innocent III and St. Bonaventure have also had authorship attributed by some.

This is the original text of this hymn as it appears in the Lyra Catholica (1849):

*At the Cross her station keeping,

Stood the mournful Mother weeping,

Close to Jesus to the last:

Through her heart, his sorrow sharing,

All his bitter anguish bearing,

Now at length the sword has pass’d.

Oh, how sad and sore distress’d

Was that Mother highly blest

Of the sole-begotten One!

Christ above in torment hangs;

She beneath beholds the pangs

Of her dying glorious Son.

Is there one who would not weep,

Whelm’d in miseries so deep

Christ’s dear Mother to behold?

Can the human heart refrain

From partaking in her pain,

In that Mother’s pain untold?

Bruis’d, derided, curs’d, defil’d,

She beheld her tender Child

All with bloody scourges rent;

For the sins of his own nation,

Saw Him hang in desolation,

Till His Spirit forth He sent.

O thou Mother! fount of love!

Touch my spirit from above,

Make my heart with thine accord:

Make me feel as thou hast felt;

Make my soul to glow and melt

With the love of Christ my Lord.

**Holy Mother! pierce me through;

In my heart each wound renew

Of my Saviour crucified:

Let me share with thee His pain,

Who for all my sins was slain,

Who for me in torments died.

Let me mingle tears with thee,

Mourning Him who mourn’d for me,

All the days that I may live:

By the Cross with thee to stay;

There with thee to weep and pray;

Is all I ask of thee to give.

***Virgin of all virgins best!

Listen to my fond request:

Let me share thy grief divine;

Let me to my latest breath,

In my body bear the death

Of that dying Son of thine.

Wounded with his every wound,

Steep my soul till it hath swoon’d

In his very blood away;

Be to me, O Virgin, nigh,

* This section of the hymn (through the verse “Make me feel as thou hast felt…”) is sung for Vespers on the Feast of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary – Sept. 15/Friday after Passion Sunday (the Friday before Good Friday).

**This section of the hymn (through the verse “By the Cross with thee to stay…”) is sung for Matins on the Feast of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary – Sept. 15/Friday after Passion Sunday (the Friday before Good Friday).

*** This section of the hymn (through the final verse) is sung for Lauds on the Feast of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary – Sept. 15/Friday after Passion Sunday (the Friday before Good Friday).

This is the text as it appears in Hymns Ancient and Modern (1867) as altered by the compilers:

At the Cross her station keeping,

Stood the mournful Mother weeping,

Where He hung, the dying Lord;

For her soul of joy bereavèd,

Bowed with anguish, deeply grievèd,

Felt the sharp and piercing sword. Oh, how sad and sore distressèd

Now was she, that Mother blessèd

Of the Sole-begotten One!

Deep the woe of her affliction

When she saw the Crucifixion

Of her ever-glorious Son. Who, on Christ’s dear Mother gazing,

Pierced by anguish so amazing,

Born of woman, would not weep?

Who, on Christ’s dear Mother thinking,

Such a cup of sorrow drinking,

Would not share her sorrows deep? For His people’s sins chastisèd

She beheld her Son despisèd,

Scourged, and crowned with thorns entwined;

Saw Him then from judgment taken,

And in death by all forsaken,

Till His Spirit He resigned. Jesu, may such deep devotion

Stir in me the same emotion,

Fount of Love, Redeemer kind,

That my heart, fresh ardour gaining,

And a purer Love attaining,

May with Thee acceptance find. Amen.
